I don't understand the power budget difference between Runeglaive and Sated Devourer.

I want to understand how Sated Devourer is allowed to be so overwhelmingly powerful and Runeglaive is left in it's lackluster form. Its at the point where Laners take devourer just because of how easy it is to stack and unbeatable when stacked. It's such a game warping item. Runeglaive being monster only AoE auto attack proc for champions that don't even usually want to auto?

I think we've missed the mark with Runeglaive and Sated Devourer both.

Runeglaive? You mean the item that was so stupidly broken that nearly everybody took it midlane with smite? please. While Devourer in lane is pretty garbage, and takes forever to stack, also not cost-efficient until stacked.

Though I do agree both designs... kinda suck. The Sated gives stupidly strong powerspike, and Runeglaive has 0 synergies with a bunch of AP junglers (Fiddlesticks ).

Actually , former Devourer with maybe a bit of added base damage was perfectly fine, the magic damage stacking compensated the fact that it falled off hard compared to crit-based builds. I was for a scaling sustain item (like Feral Flare) but simply with much slower scaling sustain - 2 or 3 times slower scaling could have done the job -, making them better duellists (sustain is quite good in 1v1's and much less in teamfights) and not killing machines (Hello I melt you in 2 seconds kinda thing)

Taking devourer in lane on champions like Kayle is far from inefficient. She scales well with attack speed. The only mid I know of taking Runeglaive mid was Ezreal.

Thing is, considering you'll complete devourer at 30 minutes+, unless for some reason people come suicide into your lane and you somehow find yourself AFK jungling in your jungle, the opposite jungle and taking scuttlers, you'd be better off with item 3115 , or item 3089 , or item 3157 , or item 3151 , or item 3116 , or item 3100 , or.. damn do I need to quote all the AP items. Hell, even item 3153 /item 3085 /item 3091 would be better.

As for Runeglaive lane, it was picked up by Ezreal Diana Orianna Gangplank

... All of that, in competitive play. And no devourer lane in competitive, which is fairly understandable. Not that much devourers at all, tbh.

A smart laner can easily finish devourer by 20mins by poaching enemy camps, warding smart and taking skuttles. Ive had great success with it so far, not many champions can weather kayles damage with just devourer and wits end alone. I havent see. GP in forever until this patch. Even now I rarely see him.

You're definitely on the same page as me, though. They both don't seem to offer the same value to their respective champions.

Which AP jungler is it bad on other than Fiddle? One is not "a bunch".

Ok, ok, you got me there. Uhm.. the only I can think of would be completely random out of meta picks junglers so, like Karthus , AP Amumu maybe?

What bothers me more is that junglers who build Sated Devourer do not gank lanes. You literally have to beg them too, and when they do, it's very lack luster and unsatisfying. When they hit late game, if they're able to, they can wreck the enemy team. Sometimes that's enough to bring us back, but it isn't always. It's just two extremes that need to be balanced out.

If the enemy jungler is someone like Xin Zhao, then it's GG by 20 and that Shyvana won't be doing anything but receiving complaints from her teammates in the post game lobby.

Is that always true though?

This was my first game using Sated Devourer. I ganked early and got a kill bot, giving me an early advantage which allowed me to save my Orianna when Aatrox came to gank mid. I was a lot stronger than he was, so I managed to get a pretty clean kill.

Early ganking is good for nothing more than getting yourself ahead, which makes it much easier to stack Sated Devourer quickly. I was able to kill scuttle crabs whenever they spawned because no one could contest them solo, and ganked bot to get dragons, which of course stacks devourer more quickly. By making dragon worth five stacks Riot has ensured that that alone is a good incentive toward ganking, since it helps secure dragons.

I mean, sure, a lot of people are going to be sort of bad and not use the item to its full potential by just power farming their camps and ignoring the lanes. But is that really any worse than the suicidal Lee Sin player running warrior and diving the enemy bot lane with his Q while they are under tower and dying?

I think Sated Devourer is mostly in a healthy place right now, to be honest. A few champions might be a little strong with it (mostly Kayle IMO, lol wtf), but I find that smart play makes them manageable. I ended up playing two ranked games today with a Sated Devourer Xin on the enemy team, but we crushed him in team fighting so it was k.

As for your point on Shyvana, I mean, I guess that's true, but to be fair Shyvana's ganks have always been kind of bad, have they not? As a jungler her early game presence isn't very good, if not as bad as Warwick's.

I just think its too efficient vs. its peers. Devourer and Cinder both multiply your strength. Runeglaive basically does nothing post 15mins. Getting hit with a 40 magic damage on hit plus double attack on champions that already strike twice is just too much. It needs to be toned back or require more monsters to be Sated.

Runeglaive has some multiplicative scaling thanks to the Sheen proc. The 30% AP on-hit will scale with future AP purchases. The only enchant that truly stops scaling after it's completed is Warrior.

Sated Devourer is really a shift in the team comp. If your running it, You Jungler is a carry. And as a result, you sometimes need your laners to support you, rather than the other way around. But that's still no excuse not to be a team player.

Ganks, are lacker lust when your Devourer needs to scale in damage. But that's is why I don't rely on damage in a gank. And that is why I don't play Master Yi, Cause all he brings is damage. But if you have someone like Jax of Xin Zhao, you still have CC, and your team can still dog pile the enemy.

I also take the time to secure objectives, And my ganks, are done with that in mind. Partially because Scuttler and Drag give way more stacks than anything else, but they should not be ignored in the first place. If bot and mid lane is pushed, you can put one good ward in the enemy side of the bottom Jungle, and do Dragon in relative safety.

the worst thing is that when sated jungler starts snowballing ... he will start oneshothing people in mid game

this will make him snowall even harder and you will lose to one champion in a team base game

If you can't achieve a MAJOR lead by 20 minutes against a SD comp, you have lost. I think it's extremely unfair that a Yi that is AFK for the first 20 or so minutes can suddenly appear and kill me, a Malphite with FH, Thornmail, and Ninja Tabi, in three sated autos and a Q. In this current patch, I'm pretty positive Thornmail does absolutely zero against a SD jungler.

Ruudi1 votes

And that, my friend, is why Thornmail needs a buff.

That, and the old version of SD was just fine. :(

Riot needs to Admit that Runeglave is a failure, and Try something different for AP jungles.

Skias1 votes

Honestly though, Attack Speed vs. 20 Raw AP still makes Devourer have the stronger build path.

Skias1 votes

I think besides the benefit to Ezreal, Runeglaive was onto something cool. It would have been neat to be like Odyn's Veil a bit. Casts charge up the item, then at 100% you can shoot an Aimable wave forward dealing magic damage. The faster you cast, the faster you get your mana wave to AoE monsters or poke enemies late game. Make it scale with AP or Mana. If it scaled with Mana, it would increase the value of items like RoA and Archangels' to Junglers without requiring a 8% mana return from monster damage whatever attached to it. You would naturally buy mana because your Jungling tool uses it.
