Getting resists when you're behind is wrong?
Picture this: You're against Riven top, she gets ahead, and you decide to get a Chain Vest to try and reduce her damage. Are you shooting yourself in the foot doing that?

Depends who you're playing.
If you are playing as pantheon or something then yes...
If you are playing malphite or shen or something... then no...
What about someone like Renekton or Darius?
Getting a chain vest is smart on either of those.
But when you are BEHIND? I.E. Riven is SNOWBALLING?
There are champions where you CAN be...
Having said that, building damage while ahead and resistances while behind is a generally good strategy for champions that want both.
Going tanky when behind is the best idea, as a rule damage of every kind is more expensive than defense. It's a good way to close the good gap if she is going damage.in a lane you feel will snowball, buy defense.
but buying a chain vest specifically wont help much bexcuse armor and MR are much more efficient but also much more expensive and areal less efficient with low health pools the better option is to purchase health it's cheap and very effective early especially if it leads into buying armor, Giants belt is a good example of this.
