Does it take a certain mindset to play assassins?

I have people tell me that Katarina is one of the easiest champs in the game to play, and that Talon is too strong to be bad right now. Yet when I try to play them I'm completely useless. I'm probably the only person in the world that can't play Katarina at all. Is there something to playing bursty assassins that's different from all the other champs in the game?

She's really not all that easy since the rework. I mean she's not super complicated, but she does require a certain level of mechanics to be good with her, and there are certainly easier champions to play.

Katarina isnt the easiest champ in the game since the rework. She takes quite a bit of skill and you can tell if someone's a good katarina.

Katarina was never an easy champion to play. Most assassins just revolve around killing a target and getting out ASAP. Katarina is an accidental (but not really) quasi-exception to that rule because she has resets and mass AOE damage. She also lacks any real defensive options in her kit besides her unrivaled mobility. Most of her damage comes from timing her entrances, or it use to.

  1. Practice a lot
  2. Get fed early
  3. If failed step 2, go to next game

Assassins are strong, but they really on getting fed in lane. So you have to be willing to be aggressive to get that kill. If you are just farming creeps like a mage, you aren't "in the right mindset." Yea you can still impact the game, but you want to get items fast so you can start killing everyone. People may say assassins can't kill anything lategame, but you ideally have a strong early and mid game.

I suck though. But that is my view on assassins. A fed assassin is too strong and will carry games (vs bad teams). But if you don't get fed, you are just going to be hoping the enemy is bad and tries to 1v1 you.

You play an assassin similar to how you play a tank. You wait for someone to be out of position and then you pop them. The difference is when you're a tank your focus is locking down a primary target and as an assassin your goal is to burst said target. That is why many of us tank players also secondary assassins.

I dont play tanks at all and my most played champions are assassin but i kinda aggre with that. i wait for people to be out of position, play around the fog of war, and show up where people wont expect to kill champions. but there is more to tanks than engaging on someone but most dont focus on that the just dive in and let assassins/divers destroy their backline for free
