Tips on how to get out of ''Elo hell''

Hey everyone! I have seen a lot of threads on the boards this season from people complaining about their elo and not being able to climb, so I've decided to make a guide to help yall get your booty out of low Elo. I am not the most experienced player that's for sure, but I definitely think I can give some usefull advices and I have been doing way better since I have been using those tricks myself. I easily climbed from bronze 1 to silver 2 last season (wich was my first season), but this time I'm having a harder time climbing. I am not too mad about it thought, since I have improved so much because of this difficulty raising and I am confident I will get to gold very soon. If you have any question or need advices feel free to let me know I will try to help you out and if you have any comment about advices I gave here don't be shy either. So, here we go!

  1. If you don't have a pink ward somewhere on the map, you are doing it wrong. If you have

2 wards waiting to be used in your trinker for too long, you are doing it wrong. Vision gives you informations for everything. Can you CS that lane? Can you take that objective without risking the entire enemy team catching you out of position? Can you counter jungle? All of these questions are answered via vision. Vision is a team effort and participating in it helps not only you but all of your team.

  1. Don't ping once. Ping many times. People in low elo tend to forget about pings so if you know that ekko is going to roam bot lane or you saw the jungler heading to top lane, spam your ping right on the lane and type it in chat. Yes, it's annoying but it's sure better than having one or many of your teamates dying because they didn't pay attention to your ping. If they still do die, at least you did everything you could to prevent it.

  2. Listen to people who are doing good. Of course KDA isn't everything. Maybe 1/4/3 Jax has been doing an amazing job splitpushing and got the first Inhib of the game because of that. Maybe bot lane would be feeding way harder if this 0/3/2 Nami wasn't doing everything she can to save her ADC all the time. But chances are if someone has good CS, good map presence and a good K/D/A, they probably know some things about this game that you could learn from and they probably have better decision making than the average bronze/silver player. So if 6/1/14 Evelynn has been getting everyone fed on her own and that she Is telling you guys to group bot lane, yall should probably listen to her.

  3. You are the only one responsible for your death. You have all the tools to get visions on your lane and you have absolute control over your position and the decisions you take so there is no reason you should die. Of course sometime it's innevitable to die. If mid jungle and top all come bot lane to gank you, you are probably already dead. But most of the time you can easily avoid your death. If Kindred is going to counter jungle and you decide to come with her, you might die if you don't have a reliable escape and you get caught. And it's not Kindred's fault. Its yours. If you dive and soraka prefers to back instead of staying there and heal you, it's your fault if you die. She has no obligation to put herself in danger for you. If someone says to go do baron when you obviously know that the enemy team is doing it and they are too ahead for your to teamfight them, don't go. Let them die if they go, but you don't need to. Go push a lane, get jg camps, but don't run to your death simply because someone told you to do so (if it's 6/1/14 Evelynn doe you might wanna listen to her she knows more than you lol).

  4. Play safe. No risks= no punishment. Only go for kills you are sure you can get, only push if you have vision, only help someone if you are 100% sure you can both survive.

  5. Don't try to be a life saver. Of course, if you have CC or shield/heal it is worth to use them if it can save someone's life while keeping yourself safe. But if you are playing a champion with 0 CC or supporting ability and you try to help this Renekton with 100HP left that is stuck with 3 enemies, here are the outcome:

  • You die and renekton run away.
  • You die, Renekton helps you, he dies.

In any case, there is death on your team. Renekton is already dead, just do something else.

  1. If your death is unnavoidable, don't try to stop it. Here is what people do in low elo when they get caught out:

Use ult, use summoners if available, use item actives, die anyway.

You have to be rational and not put every impactful spell/item on cooldown just to try saving yourself. The ult you used as lissandra while surrounded by 4 enemies with no ally coming to save you could have been used to lock down the fed Ahri in a teamfight. If it's on cooldown you can't do that. Also don't use your ult/summoners to save someone that is obviously dead. If you are Soraka and you see that lissandra with no way out being gangbanged by the enemy team, your ult is probably not goint to do anything with all these champions around. She will be alive 0.3 seconds longer and still die.

  1. Don't waste your time. Here is the scenario I see the more often:

Enemy team is doing baron. Only one or two players are still alive on their team. They/He goes to the baron pit, ward and stand there watching them do it. Then they either use a spell when baron is low and fail (bitch they have a jungler so unless your blitz hook deals 800 true damage you won't get it because smite does that.), or they just walk away when it's done. So what did you get from that? Nothing. Go push a lane, kill monsters in the jungle, go make sum gold, ward around, but don't waste your time.

  1. This is the most usefull trick I have been using recently and I've started winning way more. I have been using it since that one game where I was playing Bard and since then I have won 80% of my games (12/15). Here it is: As soon as ONE person starts being toxic towards you ONE SINGLE TIME, mute EVERYONE IN THE GAME. Others talking shit affect us more than we think. Every second you take to read or answer what they say are seconds you could invest in your game. Don't let anyone affect your performance and trust me, you will perform way better with a muted team than you do with a toxic one. As soon as one player gets toxic, chances are at least one other player will get toxic too. So mute them all. Pings are efficient enough to communicate your intent and you can still type them if you need to.

Here you go, hope I could help some players with this [slayer-jinx-catface]

DON'T OVERSTAY IN ENEMY BASE. If you have an advantage I.E a few players on the enemy team dead or you have baron or w/e and your in enemy base kill what you can kill but BACK AFTER ADVANTAGE GOES AWAY. Basically, back right before enemy respawns. Too much in low elo do people stay in enemy base and fight & fight & fight until eventually everyone on the team is dead. Now the enemy team gets some gold from the kills and time to push lanes and maybe even grab baron or elder dragon if they respawn and Ace your team.

Implying low ranked junglers won't miss smite. I've stolen more than one epic objective by throwing something over the wall at it when it's slightly above their smite range and they didn't smite right.

Implying low ranked players will time their skillshot correctly. I've seen like 2 baron steal in silver all the rest are just people trying but failing and losing 30 seconds of their game standing their.
