I Have been playing sion support on and off since his rework and even tried to get a few youtubers to do a video on it. It was never seen as viable. What id like to know is what happened? how is he now the to have pick for support?? what changed?

Part of it is probably the increased popularity of immobile ADCs (i.e. Ashe, Jhin) who can't just dash out of his CC.

he isn't a very good support to have.
He does the same thing any fighter without a ton of utility does in bot. He either beats the shit out of the other guy or he just gets completely outclassed and 9/10 times your sion is just going to be another wuss who's afraid to die as sion so he just pusses around under tower everytime he gets hit by an nonempowered AP support autoattack.
Its a terrible experience and I really wish people would just stop.

he does have a knock up, good luck landing that on anyone who isn't braindead.

I mention AP supports just to suggest that most sion players are pussies who cannot fathom the idea of dealing anything other than free damage from range with their shit damage abilities. They are usually very bad.
two unimpressive slows are not typically going to make a big difference when it really counts unless you were shitting on your opponents anyways. both of his knockups are excessively easy to evade unless you were shitting on your opponents anyways his shield is useful if they have no clue how it works, but otherwise they are just going to avoid him just like every other tanky support. There is no real reason you would ever want to be rubbing up against him. Additionally 10% of a squishy champ's hp is not exactly an impressive thing. Might be nice against a tanky support but again, like I said,

He's either going to just go be a bot lane fighter and fight you or he's going to be a shit wannabe support. Sion support is not a support, he's a fighter that goes bot, when I play adc I find its actually better to just ignore him and roam if I can because he behaves like an underleveled toplaner who got shoved into another lane otherwise. As a counterpick he can be a simple solution to a simple problem but in general he's just a shit pick.
