To all garen mains

You better keep it down with the calls for buffs, the minute he gets picked more in LCS he's probably gonna get "Veigar'd" given how oppressive his silence can be sometimes( especially if it kills a Zed in competetive play, we don't want garen to affect "BIG PLAYS" now do we?)

pff that guy didnt even build cleaver the most efficient dps item on garen period. im seriously wondering how a "pro" player forgets that you need this late game on garen.

He picked Garen into an awful match up, played him bad, and built him bad.

I honestly think he was trolling lol

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Who?

Am I the only one who thinks Garen is in a good place as of now?

Silents4292 votes

Apart from his ult needing a reasonable buff, he is fine.

Ser Garland8 votes

It didn't happen to Viktor, it won't happen to Garen.

junglerboy161 votes

Because Viktor is actually a pretty healthy champion, and the tank meta rolled in right as he was getting popular (and tank meta means Viktor can't really burst anyone 100-0 like he wants too).

Garen is ok in terms of game health, but if he is strong, he can be REALLY strong, which is not good. Riot has been doing a lot of stuff right with him though (like the passive buff that didn't make him into an unkillable lane bully like he used to be), so I'll hold my opinion on him for now, and wait to see if he starts to show up more.

GloriousKaiser5 votes

Well he did do horribly when picked for once in pro play...

But to be fair, the Garen played full tank, and was ignored. Sunfire cape doesn't cut it.

And to be fair, that bot lane got wrecked.

Those shoutcasters are assholes.

BeatzBoyFTW3 votes

That Garen:

  • built armor builds against a double AP laners
  • never builds Black Cleaver or even a brutalizer

So I must say that Garen has been misplayed a lot in that match.

YossarianSensei1 votes

He was too poor and their Kog was fed as balls. There's no point to black cleaver if he'd just be dead by the time he touched anything.

junglerboy162 votes

There's no point to Garen existing if all he is doing is not being dead. Garen has to deal damage or else he is irrelevant. If he died faster, that's fine, he would have at least softened up their team for his Lucian, gotten Kog low, and likely gotten Xerath low if he could get to him. Without BC or an IE, Garen does literally nothing. His split pushing is average, his team fighting is pathetic, his peel is pathetic, and his damage is unnoticeable.

TotalJerk1 votes

That has got to be the worst "pro" match I've ever seen.

junglerboy162 votes

He rushed sunfire into a Maokai.

W. T. F.

He could have rushed Brutalizer and bullied the crap out of Maokai who is well known for his weak lane phase, then gotten a specter's cowl or Aegis to deal with the AP damage coming from Maokai, Xerath, and Kog. At that, point, he could have gone for the sunfire if it was a must, but really at that point he should have built something like Thornmail and Randuins, finished Locket or Spirit Visage, and then gotten a BC or started an IE.

Garen needs damage to be relevant in any way, since his CC sucks and he has no peel for his team. If he doesn't deal damage, the enemy team walks by him and spams laugh while he tries to slap them around.

To all Garen mains: I respect your ability to play someone perceived as weak, through thick and thin. Seriously, I love mains of the lesser-played champions.

Nothing in the world will stop me from picking my favorite champions, not even their power levels if/when they're considered crap. Diana and Ashe <3

A Miss Fortune3 votes

I main Miss Fortune.

Lesser-played champions aren't always terrible, typically I get extremely fed (along the lines of 11-2 but my best game with her so far has been 20-0) and carry the game. I think Garen is a similar case, he's a really oudated champion and even his model is poor in comparison to most newer champions though both Garen and Miss Fortune are underplayed and don't have the most updated kit or model they're both extremely strong and aren't by any means ez mode freelo Katarina slam face on keyboard to pentakill, being balanced and as a reliable pick once you mastered.

And I have to agree, if Riot nerfs Miss Fortune for example I don't think I'll ever stop playing her just because she's my favorite champion in the game. This happened with Sona who I think I have over 120 games with.

YossarianSensei1 votes

The problem is he's not lesser-played. Urgot is lesser played. Garen mains are just mostly stuck in low ELO

Literally every silver game has a Garen or Darius. Low ELo is part of the reason these champs keep getting held back.

Avios11 votes

I haven't seen a garen or darius in silver in forever, nether is played very often.

AFK Push1 votes

You will see these champs more in low ELO, but you will mostly see the same picks as high ELO like Irelia Riven. The difference being that they don't know how to use these champs.

thank you i really appreciate that as a garen main a lot of times people perceive garen as horrible or weak when if played and built right he can really rip through a team my personal favorite is building tank then while in a team fight when a low health enemy is trying to sneak away they don't expect you to pop your Q and chase then ult or even E for that quick clean kill {i don't advise this for people new to garen as you might get caught out in the open or if your team still needs you in the current fight }

Silents4291 votes

I seem to only play older champions, I never play newer released champions until a year has passed at least, and Braum is the only one I have actually played.

Trying to get good at Urgot but people leave team builder when they think I am trolling them or something, takes like 45 minutes to find a team that doesn't have a hissy fit over Urgot top.

I am proud though to say I am a monster at Yorick Garen Gangplank MissFortune Shen Trundle Sivir Nautilus

Agreed! As someone who loves playing Quinn , (despise the fact that people just ignores her power saddens me)When I play her,I love seeing the enemies having no idea how to counter me XD Not only that but I Love "deleting" annoying champs with Valor (Yi back in the days,Zed,Yasuo ect),plus I don't think that half of the player base knew that her E was a small knock up !(OK more of an interrupt), So I can easily counter champs such as Kata,Fiddle,MF ect most of the times...But what I'm trying to say is that not only Quinn has this opportunity...Champions like Swain,Yorick,Garen and many more champs (Urgod would also be in this list, but he is quite popular lately cause of the #LCSBIGPLAYS) have hidden secrets within them! That most people won't expect! These underrated champs can easily win the annoying assassins (if used correctly) and IMHO these champs are the actual threats rather than the "Noob" champs (you know to who im refering to and to me,there is no noob champs and even tho I h8 them,Its only because they r almost in every single game :S)

As a Garen main currently traveling through silver I thank you.... I simply love Garen, spinning straight into a team fight while the enemies squishies get devoured by my vortex of death, then ducking out regening health in a brush when suddenly a wild rengo appears with 1/3 hp shows up #Dunked .... all in all Garen will forever be my main

AtheosisX3 votes

It'll take more than this to make him appealing to pro players.

Highfather3 votes

You might be half retarded if you think Veigar got changes because of Zed. Also, FYI, I faced a Veigar the other day that got so big he carried his whole team. Had almost 1400 AP without drag. So, he's still very strong, you just have to try.

Sir Yamazuki2 votes

I don't see why he ever would, if he builds damage, he can't reach his target and just dies, remember they aren't bad soloq players who will walk up to Garen and let him do damage. If he builds tank, they ignore him entirely like they did instead of deciding to use all their abilities on him, again, like soloq players do.

Stephenizgod2 votes

Oh god you are right! And Garen shits all over Zed!!! ANY PROS READING THIS DO NOT PICK GAREN INTO ZED AND THEN PUBSTOMP HIM! PLEASE FOR ALL THE GAREN MAINS!

How do you play Garen...

The constant DEMACIAS, and the spinning makes it fun for me. Granted, I'm not a garen main.

I love pressing E and then joke/dance while farming...the minions just die out of impression :P

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

Tell that to the guys who played Ryze top at Worlds 2014.

YossarianSensei2 votes

Lmfao considering Zed's shadows are blinks, he had absolutely nothing to do with the Veigar reworks

They reworked Veigar for being a toxic remnant of older state of league in which the words 'counter-play' and 'player enjoyment' hadn't been invented yet.

Derpmacia Joostisu CD buffed back to 180 sec, is now ground targetted spell with .75 second delay Q receives move speed buff to compensate :l

TotalJerk1 votes

Actually making his ult a skillshot might be a buff. They'd likely up the range and make it AoE to compensate. It'll be harder to hit, but safer at the same time.

Leti the Yeti1 votes

safe? it's never dangerous for Garen!

I think that instead of making this kind of "ironically crying" post, we should focus on making constructive feedback.

I'm surprised that the posts that are focused on positive feedback and with ideas are usually overpassed by this kind of posts that contribute with 0 ideas, it's just absurd.

I did a post yesterday with some ideas on how to improve Garen: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/QEEfqntJ-garen-rework-main-garen-diamond

Conturbatio1 votes

5.6 Veigar is actually "OKAY" atm. If he needs any more buffs, maybe 0.25 less delay on his E, which means that his cage would appear after the cast time by 0.25 seconds with a 0.5 warning delay starting before the cast time, rather than appear 0.5 seconds after the cast time with an obnoxious 0.75 warning delay. Maybe more range on his Q would be cool too.

BLU Medic1 votes

I think the Garen mains will never ask for a buff ever again if the cooldown buff on his ultimate comes through.

ZeroAnarchy1 votes

I don't think it's possible for him to be LCS material. Immobile and no gap closer, just kite him. Tanky? He has no CC so all you need to do is ignore him which is pretty easy to do.

Silents4291 votes

Oh where would be in this fine forum without someone bringing up how if they appear in LCS they are going to get gutted.

It's Garen sir, Kite the bastard it isn't that hard, especially for "Pro Players"

AFK Push1 votes

Oh no, Garen killed a squishy who is reliant on their skills. Riven Akali Yasuo

Focus Teemo1 votes

Garen will be fine. He has been picked a few times sense season 1... and in that time he hasn't won a single game. At this point 1 win is long overdo, and he won't become meta because he is pretty bad against all the current meta picks except Rumble. Well unless they wanted to pick him to stop an assassin.... but they could just pick Maokai and Lulu instead... so yeah.
