Cooldown Champions and Counterplay

Now these are champions that I could consider to be resourceless. Having said that, does anyone really complain about Garen? I don't think Katarina is that bad, though maybe her passive could be changed to getting less cdr for assists. When people complain about resourcless champs, I believe they are complaining about Yasuo, Riven, and possibly health costing champions. What drawback should they receive? Longer cooldowns?

I feel like Yasuo is not too bad at the moment, still annoying, but bearable. The problem I have with Riven is that she has short cooldowns with a TON of mobility, HIGH base damage and amazing scaling. Also if she chooses to go full AD then she also has a shield that is HUGE and very hard to pop on a very low CD. She also has 2 hard CC's. And I do see Garen as a problem considering he has a silence that lasts forever, he is super tanky and need only one damage item to do A TON of damage, all for no cost. IMO i feel like Garen could use a mana cost, it makes no sense for him to be resourceless. The only problem i have with Katarina is the fact that she has short cooldowns AND reset mechanics. So this means once she gets rolling you can not stop her.

Well, I don't think Riot is going to change resourcless champs into mana champs. What do you think needs to be done with Riven? I sorta think Kat needs longer cds, but probably lower them with each rank.

Lower their spikes.

One of the biggest differences I can see in implementing a costless system is that the costless champ can fire their abilities consistently. So, why not make sure their power curve follows the same pattern? Embrace that these champions are to be as consistent as possible in power and smoothen out their power curve.

That could work for Garen, but Yas is supposed to be an ADC, while Riven and Katarina are assassins. How would that work, or will it still work?

It would be perfect for Yasuo actually. An ADC's job is consistent damage anyway.

Katarina can keep her power curve (currently she is super limited pre 6 and only "on par" post 6). Riven is more of a fighter than a straight up Assassin, so a more consistent power curve may be good for tempering her (somewhat abusive) play style.

Don't most adcs have at least one move that gives them burst damage? I think Riven is classified as an Assassin first. Might need to rework her into more of a fighter.

Yes, but that's not their primary focus. That's like arguing a burst mage has DPS if you build enough CDR; it's technically true, but not actually as powerful of an element in their kit.

Riven is primarily listed as a Fighter.

none because yasuo is finally in a good spot and riven is actually bad past lane. I think riven is garbage but most people hate champs that pub stomp.

How is Yasuo in a good spot? One part of the forums hate his kit, and another part thinks he's underpowered.

and the forums have no idea what good balance is

Chromatic Eagle1 votes

Well, what do you consider to be good balance?

Aurelius Maximus1 votes

When no champions polarize game play to a skewed level.

For example, when yasuo was broken, you could see his influence even in the draft. IF you didn't ban him, you picked him. If you did neither you had to have a hard counter ready, play it well, and not mess up once and hope he didn't have a solid jungler with a knock up to spot him.

Kassadin was like that. Release xin, eve, olaf, morgana and graves were all like that. It happens becauase balance is hard and there are tons of people trying everything out and the broke shit usually rises to the top.

Riven's always been a bruiser type, just one that skews damage-heavy as opposed to tank-heavy. People think of her as an assassin simply because once she gets a ton of items she gets good at blowing up squishies who haven't built any defense whatsoever. But she can only do this because she has the mobility to get close to them. Damage-wise she's no more of an assassin than Darius, who if he built the same way would also nuke squishies like nobody's business (and could probably go it faster, #GetDunked).
