Tahm Kench Makes Supporting Fun
Over the past couple months I've been slowly transforming into a support main. It started with
, the CC King, able to occupy 3 enemies while his ADC escapes and maybe even get a kill out of it and/or escape afterwards. Next came
, a support who is a heal away from having it all, in my opinion. Since then I've found that the majority of the champions I'm wanting to learn are supports, and that the ones that aren't I'm tempted to try as supports.
, for instance, I had to try support, and not just as a passing experiment. I saw all his CC and knew I could make it legitimately work, which I then did in multiple matches. This same thing has happened with other champions, such as
,
, and
. As solo laners, I don't know that I'd be especially interested in these champions, but as potential supports they excite me.
That all being said, it's
that's really finished the transformation. Why? Because, in the 12 matches I've played so far, I've only had one person act ungrateful towards me. Even in my first match, where I was learning as I went, my team was understanding and they all were quick to pat me on the back when I did something good. As Tahm, even in my off matches, I feel like a valued member of the team for once. Every match is full of my teammates saying "gj" or "ty," and in some cases (like my last match) I feel like the team's personal hero with how much some players talk me up in chat.
I think that's the main reason Tahm and I have become such a good pairing. I love him for a variety of reasons, but you wouldn't believe what a little positive reinforcement and understanding can do for a person in this game. That first match I went from struggling early on to finishing 2/3/14 because my team had the right attitude, and that's carried over into my other matches because something about Tahm seems to bring out the best in people. People like to think of the support as the team's babysitter, or at least the ADC's, and I don't know if there's a better support at filling that role than Tahm thanks to his ally devour. I think that's how people mess Tahm up: they play him the wrong way. He's best when he's there mainly to protect his carries, either by devouring them or the enemy team's main damage dealer. It's what's gotten me to 8-4 with a 3.87 KDA. This is in normal matches, granted, not ranked. Still, I've never done this well with a champion starting out.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with Tahm? Or is it just me?
