Advice and Questions for Ranked. (New Player)

So I am actually really looking forward to season 7 and this will be my first competitive season and I have a few questions.

1.) Should I chose 2 roles that I'm good at to main? or should I get familiar with them all 2.) How many champions should I master? 3.) Are positions like Draft Que where I can chose what 2 positions I want to play and maybe get autofilled?

What are some advice and tips to learn before going in.

Thanks

PS - Don't tell me not to because it's cancer. Keep that opinion to yourself.

Hi there, just got Permabanned cuz of bs circumstances, new account is cresmont, more than happy to duo sometime, I'm bored anyways.

To answer ur questions

  1. as a jack of all trades, I main mid and top but I do play every role. Focus on getting the basics for every lane and then escalating to your favorites and focusing on them. (Try it out a bit in norms)
  2. it depends. If you turn out to be an anivia God, you can one trick all the way up to gold/ plat if you're good enough (used to be plat on my main, mostly played Ashe for Ez wins XD ). However if recommend 3-5 champs in each role although just 1-2 is fine in the beginning 3)what do you mean by this? Clarify plz <4

Best advice I can give is to try and learn to ignore most of what your teammates have to say concerning "Strategy" (especially in the low elo). People will attempt to do and say stupid stuff down there (I had a game when I first started in which the enemy team was aced and 4 of my teammates chose to do baron instead of taking the open nexus because it was a "safer bet" ), common sense is rare but ends up being a valuable commodity.

  1. Yes. To both. Main one or maybe two roles that you feel you can really excel at, but understand every role and ideally be able to at least not feed in every role if you do find yourself forced onto one of your non-main roles.

  2. It's not unheard of to master a single champion and if you've really mastered it be able to ride it all the way to diamond. You should probably aim for 2-3 champions at least for each of your main roles, and 1-2 for off roles though so you're not completely screwed if your first choice is picked/banned.

  3. Ranked (both flex and solo) operates with draft pick, so it's the same in terms of role picking (with autofill, although thats disabled if you're in a promo series or if you played support recently or if you were recently autofilled).

You should expect for ranked to be a rough experience in which you lose a lot at first. This is normal and you shouldn't be discouraged, as most people are all on full tryhard mode in ranked on their best champs, unlike normals where people do all sorts of screwy things as they practice stuff they're not so great at.

Always look for things you could have done differently to avoid dieing or otherwise have the game gone better. Teammates will frequently make questionable choices and it can be painful sometimes as a teammate feeds, but you can't control your teammates so just learn to play around that. People who feel they couldn't have done anything better and it's their teammates holding them back are almost always the ones who stay stuck in bronze/silver. Until you're high challenger (and probably even then), there are always decisions you could have made differently that might have been better, so if they're not obvious, make a project out of looking for them.

Im certainly no expert but this is what Id say

  1. Id reccomend learning two roles + support (Ive never seen someone auto filled to a not support role)
  2. AT LEAST 4 so the enemy team cant completly ban you out

  1. I personally advise knowing two roles and be sure to know support in case you get autofilled. More often than not you will get the support role.
  2. For your champion pool I would say about 2 per role. One thing to know is if you play the mainstream champions such as Yasuo or Lee Sin you will require more champions due to their high play/ban rate. One thing to know is there are one tricks that have made it to ranks such as diamond or such such as Singed420 (A diamond singed one trick), Heisendong (Heimerdinger challenger one trick) and Tobias Fate (A diamond Gangplank main) to name a few.
  3. Solo Queue, Ranked Flex, and Normal Draft (If you're in EUW BR or NA) all operate off of the same pick/ban system.

Going into ranked I advise you stay calm first of all. There is little to no difference between a normal summoners rift game and a ranked one minus well the ranking. Be prepared for people to play a bit better as in ranked people will take the game more seriously and thus you will run into people playing the champions they deem their best. If you're tilted try taking a break while it may not seem like much it can help you out a bit. I personally take 10 or so minutes to just chill after a ranked game but thats mainly due to nerves.

One thing that seems a bit odd but is rather efficient is to watch your replays (which is made easier with riots new client however should you not use it I advise a site like Replay.GG). Look to see what you did well and what you could've done better. Along with this watching how other people play will help some of your overall decision making.

This is an odd tip however keep in mind when playing ranked you can dodge quite a bit. Should you have someone in your lobby lock in Janna jungle with say Ghost Heal it's probably best to dodge. For your first dodge of the day you should only lose about 3 LP. This can be a life saver for some games. Best to wait 6 minutes for -3 LP than 20 for -16. Note dodging while in a series or promos will result in a loss for the game and is ill advised.

Edit: One final note is don't be discouraged if you get placed low. Everyone starts somewhere
