A question about the Assassin mastery

When it states that you deal 2% more damage to enemies without any nearby allies, does that mean you will deal more damage when you don't have any teammates within your sight range?

An ally has to be outside 800 range of you. AKA if an ally is within 800 range you will not get the effect.

Is there any indication when this particular mastery is in effect?

Not any ally, but an allied champion. Any ally would make it useless in lane.

I think Rito should add a little icon to your buff bar signifying that you've got the damage bonus. While it isn't super necessary, I don't remember any ranges being mentioned on the mastery or anywhere else, so some more clarity would be nice.
