New Support Item Line

item 3301 item 3303 item 3302 Are not enough anymore for a variety of reasons. I'm not here to talk about that though. It's time for a new item.

Mystic Cloak +5% Heal and Shield Power. +2 gold per 10 seconds. Unique Passive - Honor: Auto Attacks against an enemy champion grants a shield for 10+1 per level for 2 second and 10 gold. 2 charges 20 second CD. QUEST: Earn 650 gold using this item and Upgrade to Hirana's Shelter. REWARD: Gain Runic Strike: After Healing or Shielding an ally with a champion ability your next auto attack deal bonus damage equal to 30% of the amount healed or shielded. 4 second CD.

Hirana's Shelter +10% Heal and Shield Power +50% Mana Regen. +2 gold per 10 seconds. Unique Passive - Honor: Auto Attacks against an enemy champion grants a shield for 20+2 per level for 2 second and 20 gold. 2 charges 20 second CD. QUEST: Earn 650 gold using this item. REWARD: Gain Runic Strike: After Healing or Shielding an ally with a champion ability your next auto attack deal bonus damage equal to 30% of the amount healed or shielded. 4 second CD.

Enchanter's Heart +20% Heal and Shield Power. +10% cooldown reduction. +100% Base Mana Regen +2 Gold per 10 seconds. Unique Passive - Honor: Auto Attacks against an enemy champion grants a shield for 30+3 per level for 2 second and 20 gold. 2 charges 20 second CD. Unique Active - Divine Intervention: After channeling for 4 seconds you can revive target slain ally. 200 second Cooldown. QUEST: Earn 650 gold using this item. REWARD: Gain Runic Strike: After Healing or Shielding an ally with a champion ability your next auto attack deal bonus damage equal to 30% of the amount healed or shielded. 4 second CD.

I hope you like the items. I've been putting a lot of thought into them. I wanted to capture an item that exemplifies the Enchanter type support yet doesn't encourage a passive play style. To this effect I named the gold generating passive Honor so as to encourage supports to engage with enemies and not just hide behind them so that they behave "honor"ably instead of like cowards hiding behind their ADCs.

Runic Strike is the reward for the quest and it seems OP at first but the CD prevents Runic strike from stacking, so a Soraka ult does not get 5x the bonus because they healed 5 champions. It would only be the highest healing done on one of them. In this way it functions like Lichbane and I worry about it stacking with lichbane but not sure if it is a good idea to share that unique passive or not so for now it is it's own thing.

This item doesn't offer much for non-enchanters but provides a lot of survivablity for an enchanter with the shield granted by using their AAs. Enchanter's Heart is the ultimate expression of this item line in that you can legit bring the dead back to life. This doesn't prevent the enemy from gaining gold but if a pick happened and you need a 5 man team to fight for an objective this item is here to save your team. Enchanters where already specializes in protecting allies from getting picked off this just gives an option to bring them back into it if they fail. This is the go to item when the enemy team relies on picks to win otherwise you can just combine it with a SS and just get 10% heal and shield power.

You're missing the point of support the role isnt to do damage for the most part. Besides the only champs that would actually get a benefit from this item would be Ashe and MF supports.

What? Your statement makes no sense. Ashe and MF support would gain absolute 0 from these items. Did you even read this? These items are almost completely non-damage focused only the quest rewards grants a bit of damage. Also, Zyra, Malzahar and Brand would like a word with you about supports and damage.

not the shield and heal empowering but the self shield just for hitting something and the crazy amount of gold it gives and before you say something about coin doing it that's randomized you know when you are going to get gold with this item

It's comparable to item 3303 and requires a lot more risk. I'm not really seeing why this is a problem.

well other than the more gold in less time and the shield that can protect you from a good bit of minion agro if you decide to auto them instead of a poke ability it's really balanced and the worst part is they get extra magic damage if they use item 3174 (with stoneborn and atleast a slow), item 3190 ,and item 3107

and i just realized the damn thing had an active ._.

"Champion abilities" not item abilities it's in the text. I didn't want that to happen. However, I appreciate the advice on gaining gold too fast. I missed that. They should have a 20 second CD not 15 as item 3303 gains 24 in 45 seconds (max) and item 3098 gains 45 gold in 45 seconds max. I've increased the CD on charges to help with that and bring it more in line. They are a bit slower for gold now but they are even safer. I'll have to give that some thought as they should engage with enemies more then once every 20 seconds.

Malz and Brand are taken support because their kits can be better used in a lane with two players. Brand because of his ult and passive, and Malz because of his BS free harass. Nothing about their kits make them actual supports.

On top of that they would not benefit from this item at all so bringing them up does not support your argument. You have yet to prove that support's purpose is damage.

Zyra is taken support because she brings strong peel/ disengage and strong damage. And because her kit did not function well enough vs common solo-laners to be played in solo lanes. There are other champions with similar cc and damage that are not taken bot lane, so this is not a reason for a champion to exclusively be taken as a support.

I guess I jsut imagine all those games where Zyra and brand have more damage then anyone on their team. I mean hell, what the heck was I on when I played Zyra and dealt 2x the damage of my ADC?

I must know nothing about playing support despite being a support main. I obviously don't belong in plat division because I try to have impact. I should just play meekly and never trying to deal damage. In fact, I should just stop using Q R with Karma because that is obviously the wrong way to play her. I should stop using Auto attacks with Taric. I should start W with Sona because Q is obviously a waste of time.

Get the point yet? I can lay on more sarcasm if you want to continue saying supports don't deal damage. I'm not saying that supports are meant to be carries or anything and I know they are chosen for their utility but what the hell is wrong with supports doing a bit of damage? Is there some unwritten law saying "you suck for carrying your team from support?" I thought the reward was pretty clever for using AAs to gain a small shield. If you are a support and you don't use your AA when able you fail as a support. Supports use their Auto attacks and I thought it would be nice to get some utility out of their auto attacks. It is by no means a focus but adds a level of engagement so that enchanters like Soraka and Janna don't just play passive. The shield is to help them think, "Hey it's okay to get a bit close, I'll gain a shield." Which can obviously still be punished if they position poorly but it is a good reward.

Whoah man, too intense. I never attacked you, a player. I challenged your argument. Let's not get personal here :P

I did not mean to poke your sore spot like a hiker poking a sleeping bear with a stick. And I apologize if it came off that way. I didn't say, "supports can't do damage," you put those words in my mouth. I was calling out the disconnect between your goal and your statement.

This is exactly what I was trying to find / understand. You elaborated on why the item would help in the support role and defended your idea. Good job!

This would have been much more effective than accusing the other person of 'not even reading.' You've got to take a deep breath and think first when responding here on the forums. It's too easy to misunderstand someone and escalate a conflict.

Yeah, sorry about that, you didn't deserve that. I often jump into defensive mode when I post about support changes. I can't even remember a post on these boards about a change to support items, support champions, or the role of supports without it devolving into a giant mess of people saying they hate it (and I'm not talking about just my posts). So many people that don't play support jump in and just say "bad idea". There is a really bad perception of what supports do in this community and the first post pretty much put me on posting tilt when they said the items were only good for Ashe and MF supports. Thanks you for being cool and patient with my bear-ness. It doesn't like sticks. I'll be good now.

I understand completely, stigmas can be so overwhelming sometimes :(

League forums is like a microcosm of how people act in the real world. Lots of people who don't know what they are talking about want to tell you what is best.

I'm glad my patience helped, I'm working on it all the time XD Still a work in progress.

StoryDuck1 votes

I think it is safe to say we are all working on that. I certainly have some more work to do.

HalcyonDweller2 votes

The only significant issue I see here is the overlap with Spellthief's Edge's design space.

Otherwise it's a cool idea. It has cool synergy with the shields&heals mastery in the third mastery tree.

so...you made MY Janna very OP now.

AND, I can raise my ADC.

smart move Riot...smart move.

Look at it this way, now you can kill them again and get twice the gold. :)

When they were introducing the new support item changes, I suggested they bring back the Murksphere line(from brawlers). They want passive supports to be more active in lane, so why not force them to fight in order to generate gold, but in a way that benefits them and molds to their playstyle? It had a short cooldown(benefiting their "trade, break, trade playstyle), but only generated the same amount of gold item 3098 does in one attack if the entire shield was used up, and the suggested support questline reward was a "sheild share" where the caster would get a shield up to x amount based on the amount of damage the target takes within 4 seconds(capped at the original shield effect amount)(So if you give an ally a shield for 100, and an enemy breaks it, you, the support, now have a similar shield). I also suggested then changing the coin line to benefit aggressive supports(Blitzcrank Thresh Nautilus) more, as they would no longer be sharing it with their exact opposites.

StoryDuck1 votes

That would be pretty cool but I would worry about the crazy synergy that the murksphere line would have with other +% heal and shield power items. There was also the problem that the item made both sides in lane play passive as neither wanted to attack the other to give gold. Still, I would love to have murksphere return.

Yeah, that the heal/shield power issue would have to be resolved.
