Liandry's is like old BC, yet you make Abyssal Sceptre like new BC

It's not that I hate the new item 3001 , I just find it weird that you replaced a fairly commonly used item on short range (not only melee range) AP champs while item 3151 is just like the old item 3071 in that it has flat Mpen that works against squishies while also having %hp DoT which is efficient against tanky champs. Am I the only one that thinks it would make more sense to refine item 3151 into an anti-tank item than item 3001 ? You could say that item 3151 is more like item 3153 , but still the flat mpen combinated with %hp damage over time makes little sense to me.

liandries needs 20-40 more AP and then 50-100 more hp and the item would be just fine. Infact I use it all the time in my AP bruiser eve builds just as a my last 2 item slots.

It's good for an extended fight where you'll be apply lots of dots to the enemy team and burning them out.

Abby scepter needs buffs. Riots gutting it, not sure why. oh well. its only good on like 2-4 champions in the game tbh. kat vlad morg and.. whats the last one.. meh i forgot oh well

I'm not saying Liandry's is bad. It's a fine last item for multiple champs. However, giving the item flat Mpen and % dmg is similar to the old BC which didn't make sense in Riot's point of view. (Note that both these items build out of a cheaper early game item that grants flat penetration and the % dmg/pen is added when you finished the item lategame).

The main problem here is that haunted guise, an item against people that don't build Mres can only be built into an item that is designed against HP stackers (who usually also have high armor and Mres.)

Black Cleaver had Flat Armor Penetration AND did percentage armor shreding reducing.

Liandry's has flat Magic Pen and has a passive that does damage based on their Current HP through spell effects.

These two are nothing alike.

If anything the new Abyssal Scepter on PBE is about to break that Logic that Riot stated because its going to do AoE Damage AND Percentage Magic resist shredding all in one.

It is exactly alike, because champs with high hp also tend to have higher armor and magic resist, unless they're building like a complete moron.

Honestly, new Abyssal looks really overtuned, just intended for a different class of champs (tanks, not AP bruisers or mages).

IMO they shouldn't have thrown the flat DoT on Abyssal, and they should give it more (or quicker) %pen instead. I know people lose their minds when they see % anything, but it'll take awhile for the %pen to break even to the 20 flat pen that abyssal used to have, especially against squishier targets.

both, liandries and the new abyssal look more like tank items than for anyone else to me.

liandries is most effective on ap scaling bruisers and tanks, that dont otherwise build a lot of damage, but deal contineous magic damage to their opponents. mundo, amumu, singed, rumble etc. make probably the best use out of it.

simply because it gives them something to deal always a reliable amount of damage, without building further offensive items.

similar, the new abyssal will be strong on pretty much most ap tanks, since its mostly strong on ap champions that want to be in melee range for extended periods of time.

if that thing makes it to live, i will never understand what their problem with atmas was. because it has exactly the same design pattern. its an item, that is its own counter. it gives you a high amount of magic resistance, while increasing your magic damage.

Well, Riot always stated that they disliked Atma's pattern of rewarding defense purchases with offense. New Abyssal, as much as I question its design, still doesn't do that.

they also said, an item that is designed to be its own counter is bad for the game.

now what is the most optimal counter for that 60 mr on abyssal? right. another abyssal.

Sure, and I agree, but I think my explanation is why Riot draws the line between the two items.
