@Riot @Meddler Undocumented Mordekaiser changes and incorrect information
Good day to you all.
Now, i was checking the patch notes again and, amusingly enough, something did not seem right. Playing Mordekaiser on the PBE several times (And a few on Live), it seemed quite clear, for me, that certain changes werent mentioned or just flat out incorrect. There are two reasons for this thread:
-
I would assume that several veteran Mordekaiser players felt slighty off at times, be it due to range or stats, but just shrugged it off as ''Just my imagination.''. This is, of course, quite bad.
-
It hurts people's ability to judge and theorycraft about Mordekaiser, due to certain pieces of information being incorrect.
** Undocumented Ability Changes:**
E - Siphon of Destruction
Range: 650 -> 675
Bug Fix: Fixed a bug where enemies would be damaged even if they successfully escaped the area during the cast time (Think the Darius bug fix).
This obviously hurts his one form of poke, as 25 range is nothing. A lot of Mordekaiser players are perfectly used to ''sniping'' their targets that are juuuuuuust inside the range. Basically, dont ever try to land this from max range ever again. This also means he can not hit Fizz or Vlad near as reliably.
R - Children Of The Grave
Range: 850 -> 650
This one is straight forward. Big range nerf since he is meant to be closer to his targets now, but again, another huge hit for his reliability. He did, however, get two small buffs to make up for the Ghost's decrease and range.
Ghost Duration: 30 -> 45/60/75
New: Ghosts will now have their ability-passives, such as Vayne's Silver Bolts and Cho'Gath's Ult/Execution indicator (So useful).
It is possible other ghosts got similar changes, such as Jinx's passive attack speed steroid and Teemo's Move Quick, maybe Ghost Jax will finally have his Passive now? Regardless, a pretty sweet buff that makes taking ADCs even more important, but this needs more research.
Base Stats:
This one pisses me off the most, since Darius and Garen's are perfectly accurate.
Health Growth Stat: 80 -> 73
Other way around. He got a nerf here.
Feel free to test this if you wish. Azir's health growth is 80 while his base is also 525, with hix max reaching 1884.
As a result, Mordekaiser has one of the lowest HPs at level 18, being just slighty above Mini-Gnar, Zilean, Anivia, Nami, Zyra and Heimerdinger. This also makes Mordekaiser into the melee champion with the least Level 18 Health in the game, reaching 1766 HP.
If you decide to count his minimun shield as health, he makes it to 1876, which is still lower than his old Base and making him into the second Melee champion with the least health, being above Sion who gets HP for free anyway.
His base Health of 525 isnt so bad, but there are only two melee champions with lower starting health than he does, those being Katarina and Yasuo (Both which will reach higher values later. Did i mention Katarina also has better armor?)
EDIT: Mordekaiser's wiki page got changed and now claims his gain is +80, but testing in-game confirms that is not the case.
Attack Speed: 0.694 -> 0.601
The old attack speed might be slighty off, since i am going by memory, but i know for a fact it was huge, at least on the ~0.68 range. Now he sits at 0.601, having the second lowest base just above Annie.
Attack Speed Per Level: 2.6 -> 2.2
Another incorrect value. His new Attack Speed growth wasnt buffed like the Patch Notes claimed. It got **nerfed **across all levels. As a result, his Attack Speed at level 18 is 0.826.
Worth noting that every champion below him (Outside of Darius, who is getting a buff soon) is ranged (Viktor, Lux, Annie), a champion that never autos anyway (Zac, Singed), has a Steroid in either damage (Nautilus, Cho, Bard) or attack speed (Jinx, Mini-Gnar, Tristana) or sticks to targets better due to CC/Mobility (Every single one of them).
Renekton is the closest champion to his old stats, having a base of 0.665 Attack Speed with a 2.6 growth, his total at level 18 0.964
Since old Mordekaiser had an even higher attack speed, he was able to reach the magical 1.0-at-level-18-number, as any Mordekaiser player can confirm. Also worth noting that if new Mordekaiser built a Trinity Force as his sole Attack Speed item, Old would still have a higher value.
He did get a good AD growth, however, but Attack Speed is more important since he wants to get those Q procs as quickly as possible. Since he builds AP, the extra attack speed meant he could take turrets much faster than currently (Remember, damage with autoattacks to a turret or an inhibitor is based on your base attack damage plus, either your bonus attack damage, or 40% of your ability power, whichever is higher). Still, having the best Attack Damage at level 18 is fun if you decide to go AD Bruiser.
Health Regen: This one is actually accurate, however, it is good to point out that, because of his still-pathetic-base and god awful growth, he has the absolute lowest Health Regeneration in the entire game , at just 9.1 on level 18.
It is worth noting, however, that the value CertanlyT used on the PBE Feedback thread was incorrect, listing new Regen per level would be 0.55 (Still a nerf compared to Old Mord).
VFX:
His effects were all changed as well, outside of on his Ultimate. Basically, he is far more ''Shadow-Isles'' and less ''Metal'', with his Passive turning into a green shield, Q becoming a generic, colorful hit, W barely having anything and E becoming wind. I see no reason to retain his title as it stands.
And thats it. There is absolutely no reason to keep the Patch Notes like this and i would like to know when, if ever, these will be fixed.
tl, dr: Mordekaiser lost a lot of Base and Scalling stats, despite the Patch Notes claiming otherwise, while two of his abilities were stealth-changed.
I mostly used the wiki to check and compare these values. Cross referencing information between Mord, Garen and Darius' base stats , checking in-game and Morde's own official page on this very web-site (Which isnt updated yet) confirms those values are, indeed, correct.
I'll bump this thread until i get a Red answer. This issue is pretty serious and makes Patch Notes look far less reliable than they should be.
