High ping issues

Is anyone else having high ping issues? I maintain 70-80ms being on the westcoast here in California but today I'm getting 600-700ms is anyone else having this issue or is it just me? Also is this the ping I'm suppose to be looking forward to with the move to chicago since that's so "central"?
