The Ever Lasting Sightstone Debate

The biggest two problems with the creative ideas for SS is that you don't want to force supports to be warding robots, and you don't want the items to be so good that mid/top want to build them. A curious dilemma and one I pondered for awhile. I think the biggest problem comes in when the support needs to use two item slots for both a support item and the SS. So my thought, why not combine them into one item and just remove ruby ss while having an enhanced support item that generates extra gold as a major focus, with some other minor benefits to the utility those support items bring? This is just an idea and was wondering what others would think.

Example: item 3069 2100g + item 2049 800g + 800g = item 3069 with +200 health, +10% extra CDR (20% total), +10 more MS (+30 total), double Favor bonus (+8gold, +20 health) (5 wards). 3700 gold total

item 3401 2200g + item 2049 800g + 800g = item 3401 with +800 health total, Spoils of war heals for 75+1.5% max health and plus 10 extra gold to each player, reduce active cooldown to 40 seconds, (4 wards). 3800 gold total

item 3092 2200g + item 2049 800g + 800g = item 3092 with +200 health, +10ap (60 total), Tribute deals +15 extra damage (30 total) and gives +10 extra gold (+20 total), Active AoE x 2, (4 wards) 3800 gold total.

I know I wouldn't mind something like this. It would make me feel as though I have purpose on my jungler to get an upgraded SS on my budget-ass builds. Talisman of Ascension + Sightstone pls. It would be hard to code, though, since each corresponding item would have technically 2 actives.

That is a good point, how would they be programmed. I didn't think of that. Perhaps Talisman active triggers when targeting any champion inside the active range. Perhaps Frost Queen active becomes targeted instead of being a larger AoE at the higher tier build? That way they place wards when not targeting a champion and use their active when targeting champions.

Still would be difficult to code, considering it would have to prioritize the alternative active than the SS active, making placing wards near enemies really hard.

They already have the ability to have actives choose what happens. Look at Lulu, she has a different effect depending on whether it is a champion, minion, enemy, ally with her abilities. if an enemy leaps into a bush well..you lost sight of him instantly so you will place a ward in that bush instead of using the active (although an 80% slow might be handier to catch them). Only the active of Frost Queen would need to decide between placing ward or targeting enemy. You wouldn't have this problem at all with Talisman or Face of the Mountain.

Although I consider any support who refuses to get a sightstone to be a dummy, I think this is actually a neat idea.

i think that any non support that doesn't upgrade trinket and complains about not enough wards is also a dummy.

anyone person can only play 3+1 wards, thats not nearly enough ever.

Personally, I'm glad we can't place more then 3 wards because those were dark days for supports in which they were expected to be nothing more the warding robots for most games.

I miss those days back when I had a 68% win rate on Leona just because I would spend about 3-5k on wards each game. Back then the entire game could be won and carried by a support that maintained good vision control, now though a support has to work way harder to have an influence.

I don't want to win a game because I placed more wards. I want to win a game because I played well.

its still dark. now instead on only one person warding everywhere...its one person warding...everywhere..with only 3 wards

That's why lots of people are still in bronze silver. It's not hard to use a trinket. As a support main I try to focus my ward on my escape route so that I have room to fall back and then just hover near that area.

I think sightstones need changed. I, however, am not a fan of this idea. Often times when playing support, I don't even buy the fully upgraded support item. This is especially true for the AP one. So I wouldn't be a fan of making you have to buy it in order to upgrade sightstone. I think they should just have upgrades for sightstone so they don't become a wasted inventory slot late game.

Lol, who cares if top and mid buy sightstones? That would be a good thing xD

Totally hear you about the uselessness of item 3303 item line. Even on Sona I never build it past item 3303 as it just isn't worth it. You can look at this from another direction for upgrading now. Getitem 3303 then get item 2049 then buy item 3108 and you upgrade directly to the ultimate version after saving for a bit. You skip the useless item 3098 upgrade and get the active and extra gold generation allowing those AP supports to really build AP. Although, honestly for the item 3303 line of support items I would rather just have a rework of the item line.

As Sona (or any other AP support) I start item 3303, then after I've built my item 2049 and item 3117 I'll get item 3114 then once I have about 600 gold I'll sell the item 3303 and get item 3096 and then upgrade to item 3069 as soon as I can as my third item.

Hmm, I build right into item 3050 and item 3504 after getting SS and boots. Sona already gives a boost of speed to her team (albeit weaker until late game). Never really felt a need to give more speed to my team except against very specific matchups.

Gasp, other people spending gold on vision control. The horror.

Although people could just upgrade their trinket at level 9 but for some reason have some difficulty doing so -_-

Why not make another trinket upgrade like SS? Instead of making it it's own item?

I know that, but I mean another that you can upgrade before level 9, and maybe gives you extra stats as well?

Not as a trinket, no. Stats given on trinkets is a no-no.

It is kinda unneeded imo. It would only be relevant in 45+ minute games where you start to have your slots full as a support. It could be helpful midgame if you're really carrying item 2003 item 2004 item 2043 item 2044 in your inventory, but that's really situational

StoryDuck1 votes

That's why i felt the gold generation focus was a good idea. You could really build up your core support items quickly if you are taking advantage of it and allow for some unique builds as supports would have more gold to play with. It is totally intended to improve supports mid game and late game. You might not need to upgrade to this level but lets say your teamed with a kog'maw, tristana, twitch adc? You looking for a quick game at this point?
