20% CDR on Spellthief Edge Line??? Why?

20% CDR isn't entirely necessary. The only supports I see it benefiting are as follows: Zyra, Brand, Vel'Koz, Malzahar, Lux (non-Forbidden Idol build paths), etc., as they lack CDR in their build path.

Shielding/healing supports (aka, all meta supports) already max out CDR with current build paths. This would be entirely unnecessary.

The reason why Coin is so much better than Spellthief is because of the gold income. The obvious solution is to up the gold tribute.

My personal suggestions on possible Spellthief buffs:

  • Up the gold income to, say, at least 15 gold per tribute proc — maybe more (I need to look at the numbers and compare when I get home; at work on break atm). When the item is upgraded to Frostfang, upgrade it to maybe 30 or so.
  • Decrease the cooldowns on tribute procs, and have it possibly decrease even more with each upgrade of Spellthief item.
  • Up the damage on the tribute procs.
  • Up the mana regen.
  • This isn't the best option, but you could always give Spellthief 5% CDR as well. Give Frostfang 10% CDR, perhaps keeping the Eye of the Watchers and Frost Queen's Claim at 20% CDR.
  • Maybe reward those that use tribute procs by giving them some mana in return?
  • Maybe once every 3 procs, we could get rewarded with a larger sum of gold or mana return.

Just thought I'd note that although Coin is better than Spellthief's because of the extra gold, it's also better because of being able to spam spells without running OOM.

I miss taking Spellthief, Riot. I really do. I love having the AP on supports like Nami, Sona, Morgana, or even Soraka, but Coin is still too good to not take on just about every single support (even tanks).

PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT saying to add every single one of my suggestions to the item. These are just different possibilities.

i can tell you right now as someone who is abusing this item on ap ezreal in high plat, that buffing the gold gen would be a huge disaster i already generate around 1600g by 28 mins and buffing that further would have me reaching full build at 25 mins lol without being fed. the 20% cdr buff is nice and i cant wait for it cause it gives me even more stats that i want for free without upping the price, i do wish it gave more mana regen but this item will def be taking place of morello on alot of champions who can poke.

The tribute proc cooldowns are briefly paused on Spellthief and Frostfang. Meaning, you don't get the full gold potential until you've upgraded to at least Eye of the Watchers or Frost Queen's when the passive disable is removed. Makes zero sense to take it on AP Ezreal or any AP champ for that matter who isn't a support (quite frankly, it makes zero sense to take the item PERIOD at the moment, even on support champions for whom it's intended, as it's just not any good compared to Coin).

Anyways, buffing the gold generation is not a bad plan at all, seeing as how Riot has no plans to nerf Coin any time soon. Spellthief's Edge line is hardly used at all. This would put it back in the game for sure.

I play a lot of mid lane myself. Frost Queen's will not be taking the place of Morello's any time soon, I believe. 60 AP, 2 icy ghosts active slow, a little bit of extra gold in the long run, and 50% base mana regen vs 100 AP, grievous wounds under 35% HP, 400 mana, 20% maximum mana restoration upon assist/kill.

A single person uses it on a niche mid lane pick in a weird build. So, what? You think that makes it good?

My point is Morellos will not be replaced by Frost Queen's for the majority of mid lane mages. The stats are irreplaceable. People would be shooting themselves in the foot in the long run if they opted for the support item.

This part here basically explains why they give it 20% CdR. Spellthief's is an item for offensive, damage/poke-focused supports, who would not buy many (if any) CdR items afterwards.

Like, I get that, but Riot's completely overlooking what makes Coin better than Spellthief currently. And that would be the gold income. And THAT is why I'm just like, "WHY?"
