Proposed Sion Ult change

ModCaptainMårvelous··9 votes·1,521 views

The Problem: Sion ult has very low turning, hits walls very easily, essentially useless unless you're charging down a lane.

The Proposed Change: Sion's ult is now only stopped by outer summoner rift walls (IE: Map Boundaries) and extremely thick walls (See: trying to run through Baron's wall all the way toward mid lane).

Sion, as he's charging, will charge through small walls. However, every wall Sion charges through restarts the scaling stun and damage of his ult.

What this does: It opens up Sion's avenues of ganking and doesn't punish as hard for things like accidently hitting broken turrets or scraping the corner of a wall. While it opens up these avenues, Sion's damage/Stun is still tied to how long he can charge without pause or halting. Trying to charge through the jungle all the way to bot lane will cause massively less damage and massively less stun than if he had charged through the lane.

Any feedback/ideas?

Honestly, it's fine as it is. It needs to have easily punished mistakes. It's an EXTREMELY powerful ability already if you know how to use it right, and they did a good job putting in some counterplay for it.

This is true, but also consider how limited the scope of this ability is. It's already very easy to dodge and it's extremely hard to control. Personally, I don't think the power of this skill entirely justifies how easy it is to stop.

Above all, this suggestion isn't a 100% buff. This is a lateral buff. Yes, Sion can do new things with his ult, but the damage and power will be vastly reduced. Still, I'd take far less damage if it meant I can use this outside of a lane or I can finally use it in tight spaces.

I don't want the damage and power reduced. Personally I rarely miss with his ult because I am judicious in its use. And when I do miss? It's no different than many other ults that can miss. I don't see a problem.

I just want his passive buffed.

Sion's ult works fine. Maybe stop trying to always use it from miles away? It works up close you know.

It's also vastly reduced in both damage and stun when used up close. Yes, the ult is fine, but I think it could just use a little touch up/change to give Sion a bit more leeway. Like using it in the jungle or in extremely confined spaces.

personally i think the best change would be to stop it from cancelling after just clipping a wall or something, i am not a fan of it running through jungle walls with its range, massive damage bases and excellent cc, and running through lanes is the premier (and ungodly effective) way to use the ult. a skilled sion can steer it through short jungle paths when that is necessary, but every ability has an optimal use case, it just so happens that sions optimal use case is through a lane whereas someone like malphite has an optimal use case in the jungle with a bunched up enemy team, etc. It is a very strong ability (for those who know how to use it of course which seems to be virtually noone that ive seen) but a small quality of life buff would be a good idea.

I see Sion's ult as mainly three things, and dealing loads of damage is not one of them.

a) His ult makes a great teamfight initiation (and here you can get a load of damage, although maybe not max, simply by starting back a bit). b) His ult can be used to catch a fleeing enemy AFTER a teamfight (or just when they're running away). c) His ult can be used as a peel for practically the entire team while his tankiness keeps him alive to run away (hello, Malphite).

The only change I really think would be fair is allowing flash. If I have the summoner up and I want to guarantee an initiation with it I think that's fair. It's similar to malphite flash ulting so he has much lower travel distance. The warning sound is enough punishment for using the ult. It basically tells everyone to get out of straightaways and be ready to dodge seconds before you actually show up.

That'd be too much. Charging up to 900 Damage and then being able to flash onto someone is kinda broken.

What? And being able to charge through all walls isn't? This is the most reasonable to change I've seen. It's the same as Jarvan flashing thrpugh his poll and still knocking up or Lee activating ult and them flashing and knocking them the opposite way and every other variant all champs have when it comes to flash. Using a 3min cd summoner for one ult over one wall is a reasonable buff.

Can I just say, to everybody who thinks the Original Post is asking for something Overpowered:

Malphite Malphite has no drawback on his R, why should Sion Sion?

Everyone calm down. It's perfectly fine as it is. It's hard to steer and use at your first games with him, but it's a piece of cake after a while. Even from far away, if you use it against a champion that has no noticable dash or jump (or no dash or jump at all) you're going to have a good time. <3 Sion

Flashing during it would be stupid op unless you completely reset the damage and stun after flash and moving through objects like the jungle is just screaming for abuse. It would be used for a super fast short cut instead of what it is supposed to be which is initiation.

Just play Sion on Howling Abyss a couple of times and you'll either get good at steering his ult or die trying. Useful training ground maneuvering through turrets there.

So technically, Sion is able to escape almost EVERY FIGHT OF THE GAME just by magically running through walls. Look, if you're still not satisfied with Sion's new kit, you're better off playing the old Sion instead.
