What am I doing wong?

So I started playing LoL a little over a year ago and at risk of being "that guy", I'm beggining to dislike it. So I've come here to see if I could get some advice from more experienced summoners. When I first began playing im not even sure what meta it was, I used tryndamere and Riven on top and I loved it. Now I think the new meta is the tank meta, and I dont enjoy it. Maybe Riven is an outdated champion and I should try a new one? So my main question is how, as vetran players, have you adapted to the new metas and continued enjoying the game even when your favorite champions became weak?

And on a side note, I'm on a major loosing streak, for the past month im winning 1/5 games a day. I almost feel like im not matched with people of my skill level in blind pick, like because i did so well between levels 20-25 winning probably 4/5 matches(I was playing well but also got lucky and alot of my teams were very strong), now im facing really tough players(im lvl 30). I havent started ranked yet.

Toxic player spotted. Tryndamere and Riven player? It's a dead give away mate. I suggest you get on some anti psychotic med to calm you down and then spend a year playing nothing but Lulu. This should cure you of your toxic tendencies.

lol.

Anyway, just a quick tip of advice. If you start tilting, DO NOT play another game. Likely you'll probably lose that one too, though if you manage to stop your tilting you might be fine. Winning always helps your morale, too.

I try not to be toxic, I do get mad sometimes but I never say anything over chat, I just keep it to myself.

Skill always trumps meta.

Riven is NOT weak. Very strong champ if you play her right

The current meta is high mobi carry focused with carries being popular in all lanes even as support because of thunderlords being so popular. So riven has its place. Assassins are currently dominant in the mid lane because of that and also because mana pots were taken out mages are now unreliable for the most part. Not mentioning they lack mana regen items with cost effeciency.

Sometimes in blind pick you get a role you dislike. And the reason you dislike that role is that you don't understand it well enough. Try picking a champ for each lane and practice them. The game becomes much more enjoyable if you have better knowledge. Don't go play ranked games until you know all 5 roles as that cpuld seriously impaire your abilities to rank above bronze. You don't want that.

And concerning metas. Whenever a new big patch comes out, read the patch notes and test things out. Just ask youself: "how does THIS specific change affect the game overall?"

I.e. when the new masteries came out, i test a bunch of champs out like zed mid and realized how op thunderlords was. I knew from that moment that assassins were going to be brought back into the game. (As they had no viability in the cinderhulk meta, lack of burst and arm pen)

Play everything a few times on a free week. It'd be better to diversify yourself and really find out what roles you shine in or even what roles you need to improve in. If you like Riven or Tryndamere, you might like Aatrox, Yi or Vi.

Pick a champion that you enjoy playing with, learn how to play him/her and forget about that "meta" thing for a bit. My team was once hardly beaten by Zed support, and that was ranked game in gold. And Riven is definitely not weak, just hard to execute properly. Also try some other champions, both toplaners and others

Play the champions that you enjoy playing and feel comfortable with and you'll usually have the most success. If you feel like you aren't enjoying it as much, feel free to invest some time in learning other champions until you find one that you do enjoy. :)

I would suggest taking a small break, just to get out of that losing funk. The other suggestion is to expand your champion pool. Try different roles, different lanes, anything to break "The same game over and over."

Someone is being honest and is pouring out their emotions into a community that should be kind and considerate. Can you not bludgeon their self esteem by calling them a noob?

  1. You're completely incorrect. Champions become weak when Riot nerfs them or removes a core item, role or niche that they occupy. It is a known fact that ever since Fiddlesticks's core jungle item, Spirit of the Spectral Wraith was removed, that his pick rate has deteriorated to a feeble 2%. That champion has became weaker, has fallen out of meta, and is rarely used.
  2. He stated his opinion about the game in the post; stop trolling.
  3. If someone is on a major lose streak why would you want them to go ranked? I get that he is on NA servers but would you want someone who has been on a major lose streak to ranked with you? Do you even ranked? Do you have any thing that proves that you shouldn't be condemned from the community?

The advice provided in the comments above is good. For me this game has really changed over the years. It went from playing something with friends in the summer to playing a lot in college, to keeping in touch with people after college. The main thing that keeps me playing is ranked (but I also have many may normal games played). I own most champions and understand if you just hit 30 you probably do not have many (ip system is a joke).

I have started to be content with meta changes because I have started reading about the game more, reading guides, and just overall have focused on my game play. I always made it a goal for myself since season 3 to get gold. As one could see I am a slow learner, as it took until Christmas this year to get it. Still never got a victorious skin but hoping I can perform strong in season 6.

For me its just focusing on the competitive aspect since I have played the game so long. I just try to play champions that are relevant and that I find fun. I was maining Annie mid most of the season, but started having problems because she was played so much this year and players got better at playing vs her (or I just got worse idk). Anyways, I got destroyed by a Kassadin mid in my last ranked game as Annie so now I have been playing him on an alt account. Been trying out some zed and other champions since it seems the assassin meta is coming back.

I guess just find some champions you like, try them out and just focus on having fun. If you lose a couple of games take a break and come back. If you really want to improve, read some guides, watch some videos, read patch notes etc.

New Meta = Don't Feed. Deaths count in this new meta more than ever before. More than 5 deaths in a game is feeding. Don't believe me? Do the math:

5 Deaths x 5 Players x 300 gold per death = 7500 gold. 5 Deaths = Feeding

This means if you die 5 times in a game, you give the other team a nearly 10k gold (factoring in assists and extra farm). That's insurmountable in most games. Going even typically doesn't help and it's a rarity that this happens. I've seen many players get out of laning 3/5 and think that's acceptable. It's not. Not even close. By the end of the game there may be times where 5-10 deaths in the game is acceptable. Dying for your team so they can get an ace or an objective is acceptable and depending on your role it's gonna happen more than others.

The other major thing that has always effected games and Top specifically is CS. I can't see your history so I don't know, but your CS % should be in the high 80's or 90's. Positioning yourself well up there is also good but being ahead on gold is paramount to victory and always has been. As a top you NEED to roam on most champions and in most games (Nasus would be an exception in some games) so you'll need to force a 3v1 mid and grab the mini-baron or teleport bot and 5v2 and grab dragon but timing these things needs to be just right so you don't lose towers.

Thanks for all the tips. I have other champions that I play like Blitzcrank support, Veigar mid, MasterYi jg, and I have Vayne as adc but adc is so different than the other roles im not good at it. But after reading these comments I think the problem is just that I need to get better and find more champions that I like, it just seems like im dying more than ever before now, which ultimatley results in a fed top laner and an instantly lost game. Not saying im ALWAYS the reason my team looses but if i am the reason, then thats why.

Also it might be worth mentioning I duo que more than I solo que. We are both the same level so I figured it wouldnt mess the matchmaking up, but maybe it does?
