Simple Champions With Too Much Power

SymbolicFear··3 votes·1,029 views

Before Reading I would like to state that in no way do i expect any change nor am I asking for one, just curious as to what other players think of the situation in this discussion.

Ive just returned last month and have played a fair bit since returning after a year's break. And I have noticed something rather strange that occurred to me during a match.

There are some champions in this game that honestly don't belong as their simplistic and yet drastically powerful styles no longer stand alongside other champions cohesively. They completely outclass their opponents in a vast majority of cases and in late game, require a 5v1 to deal with. Ive had this situation occur with Xin Zhao every time I have seen that champion. Tryndamere is another instance of this. But its just one of those things that is able to be dealt with, but it just requires way more effort than should be necessary.

Im not saying they are way too powerful and need to be nerfed in this way and that, I am simply stating they do need some sort of attention whether its a rework or a change to the items they require. I feel as though simplicity shouldn't be so prevalent with hyper carries.

Below, post your views on their matter, any and all feedback is welcomed and will be read and responded to.

No, simple champions have clear ways to counter them (stay out of range, kite). Their intentions are very obvious and you can play around them. If you use more complex champions to there full potential, you'd defeat them easily.

Else there's no point as fucking up with a complex champion is just as good as doing perfect with a simple champion (not hard).

Annie Death is the only viable CC to use against her.

No, you stay out of range -_-

Wouldn't it suck if she outranged the majority of champions?

Yes, but not Xerath Ziggs Viktor Azir etc

Which is why she's 'balanced'.

Hell I've 1v1'd an Annie as TF. Had 100 life left and nearly died to her Tibbers under tower, but I did it.

Not true, Xin has that charge attack and the knockup to keep you in place. Tryndamere has a dash attack and a slow. Yi has his Q If you are using your champion to the fullest potential then most likely so are your opponents due to matchmaking, and will wait for you to blow your cc or whatever you have to get away only to get re-initiated on.

Sure he does, but after that? Nothing. Kitable as a Sion.

Trynd slow can and should be countered with Stormraiders if ur laning against him. Yi is squishy and can be bursted.

If they're waiting for you to blow your CC, then they're playing smartly. But why not just hold a single stun? That's enough to kill a Yi.

Generally, champions are "relatively" equal in power. Ideally, they would be completely balanced but that isn't realistic.

Simpler champions are more reliable. They are very good and consistent at what they do, but they don't have many options available to them.

Complex champions are more versatile. They are less reliable, but they have many more options they can take advantage of.

Besides, many of the complex champions are extremely strong at the moment and likely due for nerfs. Examples including: Camille Jayce Leblanc Yasuo Katarina Ryze

I would include Lee Sin, but he was just nerfed last patch (though I'm not sure if it actually fixed the issue).

Yas, Kat, Ryze, Camille and LeBlanc are what need nerfs, Jayce just needs something to let him get slightly less of a bonus from lethality.

Kat is not complex and Ryze isn't either.

But thats neither here nor there. Simple champions can be reliable without being over the top in power. Thats my point, they simply outclass their opponents in most cases.

Kata and Ryze are pretty damn complex...

Most of the times, they dont, however. A Garen won't beat an Illaoi in a teamfight, etc.

I can see your point. But right now it feels like a lot of simpler champs are actually being annihilated by the Swiss Army Knife new champs like Camille.

There will an upcoming class update, however, which may solve some of these issues. We can hope.

Its possible.

Oh but you forget that this is an F2P cash grab of a game. If we rewarded the good players for playing more complex champs and made the simple champs relatively weaker in return for being more reliable and easier to play, then the whales would be upset, and Riot would lose money.

Can't have that now! Nope!

OMG, just quit League already if it's so unethical.

It's more than just League, that's every game these days. And that's most of society as well.

SymbolicFear1 votes

Not really true cause the simple champions are all super cheap in IP... the more complex champions are the more expensive ones, sorry but your logic is flawed.

Niyumi1 votes

Umm...? And?

IP and RP are different things. I said they reward whales by making the easy champs stronger -- no matter how much they cost.

SymbolicFear1 votes

Someone good with these champs can still be massive powerhouses and do immense damage even if you try your best to kite and such by the engage abilities they have

I think I hate to admit it to myself, but I think simple champions should be as powerful as they are right now. Think about it. If a new player just started to play league with little to no experience was given a choice between a powerful glass cannon champion (with fun mechanics with a high skill floor and skill ceiling) vs a simple to use but powerful champ to get with whatever IP they are given at the very beginning, I think the latter would be an optimal solution. The player needs to focus on how the game works more so than the champion itself. Once the player is able to do that, he/she can do whatever the hell he/she wants.

I don't think Xin Zhao and Tryndamere are powerful at all. All you have to do is kite them and they get shut down so easily. They're very low-middle of the pack, actually. I don't think nor feel that they outclass anybody in their roles.
