It's a good idea, albeit somewhat underwhelming.
However, Meddler has already publicly stated that Rito doesn't want Sona to exist in their game anymore. They know she's the weakest support and he's openly threatened that if this ever changes, they will immediately hammer her in the back of the head with yet more nerfs(again.)
Sources?
Source please, I don't recall him ever saying that :/
Overall basically still the same as per my post in this thread:
http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/EkxbfyvO-so-lemme-get-this-straight
Preseason's also increased her effectiveness a noticeable amount, so if we felt compelled to make balance adjustments to her I'd imagine they'd be nerfs not buffs. There are certainly some supports that are more dominant overall, we've either just nerfed, or are in the process of nerfing, those that are over the line though (some of whom will probably need further work too - looking at you Brand).
Um... I don't really see where he said that they don't want Sona to exist anymore, that she's the weakest support. He just said that she got stronger with the changes and if she did get more changes they would be nerfs because she doesn't need buffs. ANd, well looking at her statistics, Sona... doesn't really need buffs right now.

Such is the blind Rito-worshipping of a bleating sheep. Here, I'll help break things down and translate:
It's common knowledge Sona is the weakest support, if not the weakest character in the entire game. She is numerically or mathematically either the worst or 2nd-worst in every individual stat and this adds up to a champ that more likely than not has the absolute lowest amount of spent power budget of all 129 characters. Rito knows this, but they intentionally made her this way out of hatred.
Rito's hatred of Sona is clear for countless visible reasons: She's never received a true buff in the entire history of the game. Even when other characters receive standardization or compensations, they refuse to give them to her until more than a year later if ever. Fearless made COUNTLESS promises to Sona fans and broke every single one of them, then was immediately promoted for a failed rework that failed to do anything more than gut a champ into oblivion and incur severe anger from their playerbase. Rito refuses to objectively discuss Sona, they blatantly ignored every Sona thread within something like a 10-month timespan. Every time a community-wide demand for Sona buffs has risen, Rito decides on repeatedly nerfing her instead. On the off-chance a Ritoer doesn't comment on a Sona thread, they repeat the exact same lies and hotword propaganda every single time, completely ignoring the OP, comments or replies and refusing to stick around or check back in for discussion.
Even Rito's skins team intentionally downgraded ALL of her skins in an attempt to sell more copies of DJ because they realize 4.13 severely negatively impacted the sales on it. Considering this and also considering the return on ultimate skins in general is very low, they even gave it the lowest release-price reduction of any ultimate skin to date, otherwise its profits were guaranteed to stay in the red, which they probably still are regardless.
Moving on to translating Meddler's post: he has access to data in the game, he knows as well as anyone else that the mastery changes affected Sona THE LEAST out of any support champ. These masteries' impact are directly affected by a champ's own base stats and scalings, of which as I previously stated Sona is either 1st or 2nd lowest in every single one of these numbers. He intentionally brought up the changes specifically and lied about them, because he knew it would be the easiest thing for the bleating sheep of these forums to manipulate and help continue nurturing players to hate Sona in the same way Rito does.
Stating that Rito intends to nerf Sona has a dual-purpose: he knows as a Ritoer that bleating sheep will blindly listen to his words and draw their own misleading assumptions assuming that their false deity has sincere intentions, when in truth they are 100% bigoted. Secondly, it's meant as a threat to intimidate Sona advocates from continuing to demand Rito set aside their hatred and discrimination to make her playable again. Rito's hatred of Sona is very deep-seated and they have no intention of sacrificing their arrogance to admit they screwed up, especially to say that they did so on purpose, all for a champion that they are very likely to eventually remove from THEIR game. Yes, I said "THEIR" game because the "balance" team believes it's their own personal plaything to manipulate as they see fit and we the players are only PERMITTED to play it.
Why are you calling me a sheep...? I made my own opinion off my own observations and research, not what other people told me to say.
I looked at the data.
Here's one source I looked at.
Out of 28 supports in Plat+, she's ranked six for heals, and ranked nine for damage dealt. Her base stats aren't amazing, her pick rate isn't top tier (but 6% isn't horrid) and her win rate (which, while isn't everything, is at least something to look at and analyze) is currently sitting at 54%.
I used to be a Sona main, I don't eat out of Riot's hand but the masteries lately have been decent to her.
Please don't call me a sheep because I share a different opinion. It happens, because we aren't sheep. We got to get to our own conclusions, not just one because someone said so. She needs an actual rework, not just flat-out buffs or another rework that's just going to result in 20+ nerfs in a single season (and yes, that pissed me off too. Sona's decent right now, but I'm not going to deny Riot plays favorites).
Sheep often trick themselves into thinking they're in control of their own thoughts because they've been lead to believe so. One sign to show that you're not: recycling an overused site that has been used as the go-to excuse for everything by everyone on literally every thread for every champ. I'm not even referring to Sona anymore, literally everyone and their mother has been quoting it completely verbatim, in regards to every champ's balance: Lee Sin, Zed, Eve, Brand, Ao Shin, Jhin, Slyvanas, Ben Franklin, John Jones, Bart Clinton, Mickey Mouse, Rey Skywalker... I think you get the idea. If you want me to believe you're not a sheep, don't quote 3rd-party sites or use misleading propaganda like "winrates," these are sheep bleats.
she's ranked six for heals,
There are 8 healing champs in the game, 2 of those(Kayle & Nid) are not supports. Being ranked 6th on a list of 6 literally means she's the worst healer in the game.
Last I checked Sona's damage output(and every time I've checked since 4.13 went Live) her damage output is 1/3 lower than the support average. The gap in winrates between when she does and does not build Lich Bane is more than a 15% difference, Sona does not do damage. That and her winrates are both misconceptions that've been directly blurred by Lich Bane's existence. If Lich Bane were disabled, her damage output would be less than half the support average and her winrate would fall to 48% or lower.
She needs an actual rework, not just flat-out buffs or another rework that's just going to result in 20+ nerfs in a single season
Agreed.
I saw in some other post where it was calculated that Sona does the least healing out of any champions who can heal others. I feel some sort of upgrade is needed to her healing ability. I do like the sound of your idea.
Out of the 8 healing champions, Sona's is the lowest in both base and scaling AND has the most expensive mana cost:
30 Base + 20% AP; 80 Mana
40 Base
45 Base + 50% AP; 60 Mana
60 Base + 30% AP + 5% Bonus HP; 60 Mana
60 Base + 45% AP; 60 Mana
60 Base + 20% AP; 40 Mana
65 Base + 30% AP; 70 Mana
70 Base + 60% AP; 90 Mana
120 Base + 60% AP; 40 Mana
Sona has the weakest heal in the game and is tied for lowest scaling. The only 1 with higher mana cost, Bard's doesn't increase with rank and he has higher base mana and a mana-restoring passive, making Sona's still more expensive.
Is this the post you're referring to? If not, I hope it's close enough or at least helps out in some way.
BLESS YOUR HEART
Idk but that works fine lol
[deleted]
You also forgot to take into account that the same ability that heals is also tied to a shield, meaning that she technically has:
65 Base + 40% AP; still 80 mana
I've already dispelled this intentionally misleading propaganda multiple times this week alone. You've already seen and read them and you're not worth my time of repeating myself for the nth time, so I'll just quote myself:
You claim that Sona's spell is both a heal and shield, so let's use the combined value of 65 points and compare that to every heal and shield and see if your logic continues to hold up:
60 HP(Heal) - 60 Mana
60 HP(4 second shield) - 50 Mana
60 HP(Heal) - 40 Mana
30 HP(Heal) + 35 HP(1.5 second shield) = 65 Total HP - 80 Mana
65 HP(Heal) - 70 Mana
70 HP(5 second shield) - 55 Mana
70 HP(Heal) - 90 Mana
80 HP(4 second shield) - 60 Mana
80 HP(5 second shield) - 60 Mana
80 HP(6 second shield) - 60 Mana
120 HP(Heal) - 40 Mana
Even when using the COMBINED value of the heal+shield, Sona still sits amongst the lowest bases. So let's look at who's still lower:
Taric heals both himself and an ally OF HIS CHOICE for 60 HP(Sona cannot choose who she heals.) This is a straight-up heal, half of it isn't trapped in a 1.5-second shield, so despite by a negligible 5 points less, it doesn't have an unreasonable restriction placed on it. In addition, casting it also triggers his passive for bonus damage and reduced cooldown on ALL of his abilities. All for a considerably lower mana cost.
Like Taric above, his 60-points is a heal and not restricted by part being trapped in a 1.5-second shield. Additionally, it truly is an AoE heal and not a "yourself and 1 ally" like Taric and Sona's are. It even heals your entire minion wave. Once again like Taric, it triggers his passive which grants an AoE DoT. Additionally, it has a built-in reset making him able to quickly spam it, which he can do because its mana cost is literally half of Sona's.
I shouldn't have to explain why Thresh's lantern is better than Sona's W, but I will. While being 5 points weaker, the shield lasts nearly thrice the duration. At a 950-unit cast range, it nearly matches Sona's old range and is nearly thrice her current range. Oh and let's not forget the most important part: AN ALLY CAN GRAB THE DAMNED THING TO BE PULLED UP TO 1500 UNITS TOWARDS THRESH.
Since literally every other shield an heal left on the last just blatantly has better numbers than Sona's, we can logically conclude that her COMBINED W SPELL is WEAKER than both EVERY support heal in the game AND EVERY support shield in the game.

I don't want to give my heal to the 30% HP Mundo that still has 2k HP left. I want it to go to the 50% ADC that's trying to kite the enemy that's focusing him. Sona being the only healer in the game that can't control WHO she heals is a very significant problem, no matter how hard you try to play down this drawback.
I don't even get where you're going with this whole, "They're tanks so they're allowed to have better heals" BS. You're just trying to spin-doctor the actual problem: They're tanks, yet they're allowed to have better heals despite.
Aria does not trigger Sona's passive, it grants ONE SINGULAR CHARGE towards triggering her passive. Of which she needs THREE charges. Alistar's and Taric's passives both trigger on EVERY spell cast, not just every third.
If you actually bothered reading my post instead of jumping straight into your continued harassment of me, you would know why I had to include Thresh. It's clear you have no interest in discussion, since you've just admitted you aren't even listening to what I'm saying anyways.
Sona's "scaling with missing HP" does literally nothing for her. For Aria's healing to be on-par with pre-4.13, the HP of the ally she's healing MUST be below 1/3 remaining HP. Additionally, it's maximum base value when healing an ally at 0% remaining HP(45 points) is tied with Nidalee for the 2nd-lowest healing spell in the entire game, but remains outclassed due to Nid's higher AP scaling.
I've stated this fact several dozen times already, I've dealt with the exact same propaganda you're spewing countless times already. I've iterated and reiterated the facts that discredit the disinformation you're recycling countless times already. There's nothing you can fabricate that I haven't already disproved multiple times already.

You shouldn't even be in range of your front line tanks. You're Sona and should be in the back line with your carries and your ADC.
For the melee-range shield, no. You shouldn't be in range. However, the healing active we're discussing has a range of 1000 units. YOU WILL BE IN RANGE.
So tanks shouldn't be compensated with higher base values than champions who actually build AP? That's completely illogical. Sona's heal eventually ends up outscaling all of tank supports who come with heals because she builds AP and they don't.
That would only be true if she didn't ALSO have the lowest AP scaling in the game IN ADDITION to the the lowest base. She requires 150 AP to match Alistar's base, double that to make up for the fact Alistar's mana cost is half of Aria's, another 50% more than that to make up the fact Alistar's is AoE whereas she only heals 2 people including herself and nth more than that to make up the the reset. In total, Sona reasonably needs upwards of 500AP to be on-par with Alistar's BASE HEAL.
As for Taric, you're blatantly ignoring the fact his heal scales with bonus HP. He doesn't have to build AP like you're misleadingly implying, he can go full tank and always heal better than Sona.
Comparing apples to oranges and trying to justify. Sona's passive is completely different, and actually has more affects than just the bonus damage on auto attack. No point in comparing the passives of them.
Yet those "more effects" are all attached to the same charge system. You can only choose one to use each time, then she needs an entire 3 stacks all over again. Fact still remains: Taric and Alistar's passives trigger EVERY spell and Sona's every 3rd, regardless of Power Chord's versatility.
Which directs us to another problem Fearless created: he intentionally ruined Sona's cooldowns. Power Chord is directly connected to Sona's spells, having a different bonus effect based on her most recent cast. For this to work properly, her cooldowns need to remain identical or relatively similar to each other, but the 4.13 gutting made them markedly different from each other. The results of this have been highly apparent: Sona is forced into overusing Staccato as Hymn is the the spell with the highest uptime. Rito has openly admitted that Staccato is being overused, but rather than fixing her cooldowns they chose to unjustifiably nerf Staccato which did ZERO good towards increasing the usage of Tempo and Diminuendo.
Please give me evidence as to when I harassed you. If you can't handle simple argumentation then that is your own fault. And no, Thresh has 0 relevance to any of this because he doesn't even have a heal in the first place.
http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/player/NA/Elias1724?content_type=comment
You continue to choose to not read what I quoted. Once again I'll reiterate it and will continue to do so until you start reading my words: "If you actually bothered reading my post instead of jumping straight into your continued harassment of me, you would know why I had to include Thresh. It's clear you have no interest in discussion, since you've just admitted you aren't even listening to what I'm saying anyways."
Pre 4.13 has nothing to do with Sona currently. I can point out of ton of champions who have received nerfs before and still happen to be in the meta or performing well. To say a missing HP scaling is nothing for her is no ignorant. Also stop looking at the heals alone and instead look at the ability as a whole. That ally you just healed for 45 also gets a shield on top of that, and if you trigger your passive via using your other abilities you can give the enemy who is focusing him a 20% damage reduction. Yeah, so useless.
I looked at heals as a whole and her full skill as a whole and I've provided you with in-depth explanations. The proof is literally in front of you. Choosing to ignore it doesn't disprove it isn't there, it just shows your own narrow-minded bigotry. Pre-4.13 has EVERYTHING to do with Sona as it's the defining patch that ruined her gameplay. Saying it doesn't is nothing short of sheer dishonesty and pure propaganda. On the other hand, you're attempting to include Diminuendo as part of Aria, intentionally ignoring the facts that it requires THREE CHARGES, she must sacrifice the choice of using Staccato and Tempo AND because Hymn's CD is considerably lower than Aria, it's noticeably more difficult to use.
You don't discredit anything. Every point you make seems to have such an obvious hole going right down the middle of it, and I can clearly see it. You look at things from such a limited perspective, which I and hopefully others can see by the fact that you are treating her W as if it is only a heal without a shield. You fail to recognize a percent missing HP scaling on her heal, because you happen to think "it does literally nothing for her." You compare her passive to Taric and Alistar's passive, which are two completely different champions and have 2 completely different playstyles.
Lying and trying to discredit me with falsities does nothing. While you continue grasping at straws making up fabrications off the top of your head, I've only stated facts that I've already stated countless times. I've disproved every lie you've thrown at me and your false claims of otherwise do not change this fact.

Once again you think of Sona's W as if it is only a heal. Once again you fail to realize that there is a shield and percent missing HP scaling tied to it. There's a reason that base is low. There's a reason the scaling is low. Your point there might only be relevant if her W was only a single heal with nothing else tied to it.
I do not think of Aria as only a heal. I already quoted a complete comparison of myself DISTINCTLY discussing the spell as whole, which you've CHOSEN to ignore THRICE now. Continuing to pretend I didn't do this is akin to lying:
Maybe he heals better than Sona but his heal also doesn't give them a shield or damage reduction when used with a passive to top it off.
The full comparison that I've made and you're continuing to pretend I didn't already quote has already addressed the full heal+shield AND her passive. Continuing to pretend I didn't do this is akin to lying:
Fact still remains: comparing the passive of two tanks with playstyles completely different than Sona proves nothing.
I didn't compare two tanks to Sona, I COMPARED EVERY SINGLE HEAL AND SHIELD OF THE ENTIRE SUPPORT CLASS, INCLUDING MAGE SUPPORTS(AKA NOT TANKS,) WHICH YOU ARE CONTINUING TO IGNORE AND PRETEND I DID NOT DO:
Her passive works after casting 3 basic abilities, which all work with QWE. If you want a specific effect all you need to do is cast whatever affect you want last.
Meanwhile while she requires casting all 3 spells to use her passive ONCE(since the 4.13 nerfs removed Crescendo increasing the charge count), Alistar and Taric's passives trigger ONCE per EVERY spell cast. Alistar and Taric can potentially use their passives THRICE to Sona's SINGULAR activation. This is fact, no matter how many times you pretend it isn't so or try to mislead away from it.
So because I am replied to your posts in an attempt to prove you wrong and have a mature argument I am harassing you? You need to look up the definition of harassment, and arguing is not harassment.
Your actions are not "mature" and claiming they are does not make it so. You are continuously stalking me and blatantly ignoring my words, flame-baiting me by repeating the same fabrications time and again after I already disprove them and even making direct verbal insults. This is blatant harassment.
I actually did read it, so stop acting as if I didn't because you have no response as to what I replied to it other than trying to make me look bad by saying I didn't take the time to read it.
Neither am I trying, nor do I have to make you look bad. You made statements twice that blatantly showed you did not read my post. The post is right there, it only needed to be read and you would've never questioned what I said in it:
No, you obviously did not look at the ability as a whole when you still choose to compare it as a heal alone. You keep saying it's weaker than everyone else's because it has a low base, when in reality the base isn't even that low when you take everything into account. And yes, I will continue to use Diminuendo as part of her W because you seem to think it's okay compare the passives of other champions as well to prove your point. Her W has another hidden effect when used properly, so don't act as if it's not there.
I did compare it as a whole. The post is directly there in front of you and everyone else to read, no matter how many times you pretend it is not:
The only one lying here is you. You are lying straight to yourself because you continue to see things from a limited perspective. You see her W as only a heal. You refuse to acknowledge the shield exists, you refuse to acknowledge the percent missing HP scaling, and now you are refusing to acknowledge the use of Diminuendo as part of her W. My point still stands, your perspective is blurred on this subject.
I already compared her spell as a whole and not as just a heal. The post is directly there in front of you and everyone else to read, no matter how many times you pretend it is not:
I'm debating just not even replying to the next one because it's hard to argue with someone so one sided and blind, but knowing myself I will probably step in again or eventually because I can't stand seeing lying like these spread around.
You are a hypocrite.
Sona is in a great spot right now and all the statistics prove it. Deny it all you want, I will shove percent after percent and number after number in your face to prove you wrong: win rate, play rate, damage dealt, etc. until you finally realize that Sona isn't that shit tier champion you keep trying to say she is.
Winrate is not a direct correlation to champion strength, you are not providing me with numbers, just fabricating propaganda and creating excuses in an attempt to avoid discussion. Sona's damage per game is 1/3 below the support average http://www.lolking.net/champions/sona . She is tied for the lowest base spell damage amongst all supports(40). Her full damage potential is the 2nd-lowest amongst all supports: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/AUHkJgo5-the-support-class-a-side-by-side-comparison These are what real numbers and facts look like, not just saying words, but actually providing logic and hard mathematical facts. No matter how many times you deny it, Sona is the weakest champion in the entire game. This is a fact, pretending otherwise will not change it.

I'd love to hear your reason as to why this is irrelevant and why Sona is still the lowest damaging support in the game.
I've already told you. Just because you choose to deny that I have does not make all of those posts disappear. Meanwhile, you continue relying on 3rd-party propaganda without creating a single counter-point of your own.
I realize you hate Sona, you've made that clear. I also realize you're glad to hear Meddler may be removing her from the game, you've made this clear too. However, it doesn't matter how many times you ignore what I say and how often you create selective disinformation, the truth is that Sona is the weakest champion in the game, which you already know. I only continuing to feed you pennies to cross your bridge in an attempt that others become more informed on exactly HOW bad Sona is and will hopefully speak out against Rito like they once did:

While I like this idea and it would actually be a very large boon, it's just a band-aid on 1 of many broken bones. The rest of Sona's kit aside, this isn't even enough to make Aria a decent spell again.
I see this suggestion as a fix to the shield's nonexistent duration as an alternative to just lengthening it. Speaking of shield duration, every shielding support in the game has a duration GREATER than thrice Sona's. Except Thresh who even still just barely falls short of also being thrice the duration.
All that aside, these are the problems with Aria that would still require fixing:
100% Agree But the community always reacts to a reasonable buff like its giving a champion 1K heals at lvl 1
If I may, I'd like to go more in-depth into those problems:
The main problem with Sona's cooldowns is that they don't match. This inherently contradicts her passive and is the direct cause for the sudden influx of players overusing Staccato, even after they blatantly removed an ENTIRE 50% of its damage. They literally cut the damage in half without compensation.
Being too long is just a side issue: at 10 seconds Aria is 43% longer than pe-4.13 and Celerity is nearly twice as long. Originally on PBE, Fearless was planning on nerfing all 3 spells to 10 seconds, but after player outrage changed the nerfs to how the currently are, which is arguably even worse because it directly caused the first issue I mentioned and directly cause this obligation players feel to place 100% focus on Hymn.
First and foremost, Sona's spells need to have matching cooldowns again, this is non-negotiable as it's a direct cause of MULTIPLE of her current issues which will NOT be solved elsewise. After that, her cooldowns need to be shorter. The easy way to do this is just simply return them to 7 seconds, but they could also implement some sort of reset into her kit the way Taric or Alistar has or something else entirely.
The impossibly low bases on Aria make the spell unnoticeable, even when you visually see the particles. Both bases need slight increases by about 10 points. The % BS it currently has that they recycled from Soraka's old kit is just an excuse Rito is using to intentionally keep its numbers unusable. This can either be returned back to its 1:1 ratio with her current bases or completely thrown away in favor of higher bases. It's also been suggested by players that it be moved over to the shield instead of the heal, but the point remains that whichever doesn't get the full 1:1 ratio needs a base increase.
Sona has the 3rd-lowest base mana of all mage supports and the lowest base mana of the four mage suppots that share her mana-regen pattern. Additionally, Sona has the 2nd-highest mana cost amongst all support heal/shield spells. The exception: Bard's Caretaker's Shrine does not increase in cost per-rank and the champ himself has higher mana, mana per-level, mana regen, mana regen per-level AND a passive that restores % max mana, thus making Aria the most expensive heal/shield spell in the game. The simple solution is to revert Aria to its pre-4.13 mana cost, but this doesn't fix Sona's mana-gating. Even with that first solution, it may still be a good idea to ADDITIONALLY loosen the grip on her mana-gating. Higher base mana and/or mana per-level; and/or a way to refund or restore mana would go a long ways toward making her feel better to play and make her kit flow more smoothly.
The melee-range on her spells MUST be reverted back into ranged spells once again. While this is non-negotiable, the means for doing so is up for discussion. At bare minimum, their range need be at least double they currently are. The other option that's been suggested is increasing their range with points in Crescendo, the way her spells currently already work. Excuse me for using specific numbers, but these would look something like 700 units for the first suggestion of "stationary" ranges; or 550/650/750/850 units for the 2nd "scaling" option. Even now, these numbers actually feel overly modest and could even be allowed to be much larger, but I'm just exampling the bare minimum requirements right now.
Too bad a Red wont see this :(
Not for lack of trying. I even try to link in-depth posts like this one to Colt and Steve on Twitter, but I'm not sure they bother reading them.
I dont think sona's W needs a buff windspeakers blessing increases both the heal and the shield by 10% so you are getting double the value with 1 ability than other champions also you get to do it with AoE and give everyone bonus armor and mr
The point of shields is engagement. An afk-heal Sona would not be healthy, nor fun.
That sounds familiar.

Which is why hers was removed ^^

Wtaf are you talking about?
According to http://na.op.gg/statistics/champion/ and http://champion.gg/champion/Sona , Sona has an above 50% winrate in all leagues, even on players who only have 1-5 games experience with her. This should show that Sona is not currently in need of any buffs right now.
And Sona's winrate in games where she DOES NOT build Lich Bane falls below 48%. Lich Bane is not a support item and not an item a support should be OBLIGATED to build just to have a reasonable chance of victory. This should show that Sona is in dire need of buffs or more appropriately a full revert/re-rework.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v636/pika310/Sona%20Buvelle%20RIP%208_zpsj1nptar7.jpg
I believe the current topic is the OP's idea of a buff for Sona. If Sona is obligated to buy one item to have an impact on the game, I do not see how a buff will help.
I do not see how a buff will help.
Hence why I said a full revert/re-rework is what is actually required to make her playable again.
Lich Bane is not a support item and not an item a support should be OBLIGATED to build just to have a reasonable chance of victory. This should show that Sona is in dire need of buffs or more appropriately a full revert/re-rework.
You said that Sona is building an item you do not consider fit for support champions, and that this fact shows Sona's "dire need of buffs" if a rework was not possible.
I'm not myself saying Lich Bane isn't a support item: Rito has said it, high elo players say it, pros say it. Lich Bane is solely a damage item that provides literally ZERO utility. It wasn't designed to be used by supports and if a support's damage potential is so low that they're obligated to build a purely damage-focused item just to be able to contribute to the team, that support is blatantly unplayable. When a support is SO BAD at their job that just being a ward bot isn't even enough to fulfill the duty, there's an inherent underline problem that needs addressing.
The only thing needed for a "ward bot" is
or one of its upgrades. That's it. There's nothing wrong with supports building damage or tank items. Riot's attempt to place AP scalings on utility a few years back was a mess, so supports are free to build whatever complements their team or champion. If they need that bit of damage from
, then they'll buy it.
Going a back, I brought up a statistic to support my view that Sona is not in need of buffs, and you attempted to counter it with a statistic about an item commonly build on the champion and saying how it shows that Sona is "unplayable", still not accepting the fact that the original post's proposal is a bad idea.
You're continuing to ignore the fact that Sona didn't start relying on Lich Bane as a crutch until AFTER 4.13, whereas before she had enough damage and utility on her own. Patch 4.13 reduced her damage output, gutted her utility and changed her into a melee champ, whilst simultaneously reducing her durability. It was truly a patch of over 25 separate nerfs, regardless of how many times you deny it or try to spread false propaganda.
Again, how does this show that Sona needs a buff, here in this meta, in preseason 6? The statistics clearly discredit this.
It's called common sense. Go buy some and come back.
No, it isn't. It's called a bad argument that even you can't explain without departing from the original topic.

Just because you don't want what I'm saying to be true and you make empty claims that it's not, does not change what I'm stating is factual.
A champ cannot function in a way they are meant, they cannot function in an off-manner and has to rely on a crutch to rely on a another crutch solely as a means to not fall below what would otherwise be a winrate somewhere below 40% if Echo and Spellblade were both class-restricted items. Inherent proof the character is blatantly unplayable. It doesn't matter whether that character is Sona, Evelynn, Ao Shin, Tifa Lockhart or Johnny Depp. Common sense still holds true.

Even if what you said were true, what does this have to do with the buff to Sona's W proposed in the OP?

Aria of Perseverance is Sona's weakest spell. It has the lowest reward per-cast(roughly less than 3% comparably to pre-4.13) and is the most eligible spell to receive buffs on her kit. Rito themselves have openly admitted the spell is under-performing and claimed to seek buffs to it, but never followed through on their promise and now Meddler has completely changed Rito's tune, more honestly admitting that Rito will NEVER buff her.
Still exploring ways to improve satisfaction with W and E especially. I have heard this feedback and want to find ways to improve these situations,
Fearless openly lied to the playerbase, he and Rito never planned on letting Sona ever be playable again.

If Sona were indeed "blatantly unplayble", then you would be correct in saying that a rework is in order, but the win-rate and play-rate statistics show that Sona is definitely a viable champion and not in need of buffs.
Winrate is not a direct correlation to viability. The more you rely on that false propaganda, the less credibility your words have.
Anyone that claims winrate has any value in judging champion strength is directly claiming that Lee Sin, Thresh, Kalista, Vayne and countless other blatantly broken champions are underpowered and in need of direct buffs. That notion is purely idiotic and bronzies need to stop using winrates as the end-all excuse to not put real thought and common sense into their posts.

According to http://na.op.gg/statistics/champion/ and http://champion.gg/champion/Sona , Sona has an above 50% winrate in all leagues, even on players who only have 1-5 games experience with her. This should show that Sona is not currently in need of any buffs right now.
Not just one win-rate, plus it's coupled with an above average win-rate. Any buffs would push Sona over the top.
Also, did you just claim that Lee Sin, Thresh, Kalista, and Vayne are OP? That shows a lot about you; I know where this is going.
