Why is Janna considered better than sona?

Sona can heal and shield harass while Janna can only shield. The AD on the shield is nice but Sona I feel has auras and more effect. IDK

And boards at its finest.... downvoted for no reason

Because Janna has disengage on top of disengage on top of disengage. Sona has a mix of everything, she is the red mage of supports, she can heal, others can heal better, she can buff damage, others can buff damage more, she can shield, others can shield more, etc.

If Sona's a Red Mage, does that make Thresh the Sage of League?

Nah, he can't heal, I would say he is more of a performer (Bravely Default) or Chemist (FF 5), he has the ability to give his allies more then enough to survive as well as set them up for victory.

Janna can reset a teamfight or peel for her team with her ult.

Janna has a much much much easier time peeling for her ADC.

Sona sort of just like, q's hoping she kills them or W passive on top of exhaust if she has to. And if that doesn't work she ults.

Winrates don't lie. They're both good but Janna wins more.

Also if you look carefully at the stats, Janna wins a ton with less than 50 games of player experience while Sona winrate improves substantially once players have more than 50 games with the champion under their belt. So Janna is easier to win with as well because she requires less knowledge.

Worth things in Janna: a knockup, a slow, a shield, an AD steroid, an AoE knockback + heal. Worth things in Sona: Q poke, aura offensive boost worse, short ranged Nami E... Yea, not worth, worse and more expensive Nami W... yea, not worth, aura defensive boost one eight of Janna's shield that requires to die into the enemy tanks... yea, not worth, meh slow that needs to be stacked, meh Urgot passive that needs to be stacked, meh movespeed boost that requires you to get caught too if you want to speed up someone who got caught, short AoE stun.

Janna is the queen of peel.

Janna is easier to use, so she has a higher winrate. Most people don't play sonas passive correctly. They are both good in their own way.

It's the ranged CC. Sona has her slow on E+passive..which is very minor..and her ulti that's on a high cooldown for the area/amount of CC it gives. Janna has slow, spammable knockup/zoning, and an epic AOE knockback ulti+heal. Janna's more useful in more situations/on more team comps/decent with nearly every adc, Sona's more limited in the kind of comps and types of adc's she really shines with.

Easiest of the supports to play, easiest to survive with out of all the supports, is one of the best at protecting someone seeing as all her abilities provides cc and the one that doesn't is a shield. I don't think there was ever a time when Janna was legitimately weak or not good to pick, when people was saying she was trash she had like a 56%+ win rate.

Janna can escape from any situation Sona cannot escape from most situations
