My Core Issues With Top Lane in Season 8
This has to be my least played season in league and its slowly fading out more and more. I played top lane because of the boxing style trading and pressure lane it was known for. The brawlers island to claim glory in the name of 1v1. I feel like so much has shifted for this lane, it doesn't feel like top anymore. Playing top lane went from a boxing match to the WWE. I feel like even if I win this sad excuse for a "boxing" match the referee pulls out a fucking shotgun shoots my kneecaps out and proceeds to let the opponent pin me even though I ALREADY HAD WON.

Tanks are just straight up toxic to lane against now: The old answer to laning tanks was kill/zone them early to deny late game. Now after revamps,items updates, and rune updates; Most tanks in top lane can afk farm you and sustain any early damage you put on them. Oh you wounded me? Good thing I have 4 runes that heal me, buffed doran's shield and I have regen built into my kit. This has allowed tank match ups in top lane to become an afk farm where the lane opponent is forced to try to find openings in another lane before the tank has afk farmed so much he can tower dive you. This fundamentally goes against what top lane used to be. When you tell a 1v1 island that they have to leave lane or get help to win.....wtf? They aren't fun. Even when you win the game you live with you spent the first 20m of the game forced afk farming as an early game champion and got carried by your team.

Counterplay is lacking: In most match ups top now you either win or lose in champ select. There are very few "skill" match ups and with top being the longest 1v1 lane in the game, this problem is amplified. Especially when you consider, the jungle/mid will only help the winning match-up. Your counterplay becomes, avoid dying too much and pray to the heavens SOMEONE gets fed. In alot of match ups top, the opponent can miss every "skill" reliant ability and still kill you or outscale you. Again, this goes against the traditional boxing lane that could swing either way based on trading skill and pressure.

Impact is lacking: This the what? 5th TP nerf you have given us? It's getting to the point where I would say half of my match ups are ignite match ups because TP isn't worth taking. They made TP easier to spot, they made it take longer, they nerfed the cooldown 3 times. In this meta with these toxic tanks/jugs and the lack of counterplay, you left us no way to impact the map anymore. When I lost a match-up before, there was a great chance I could make several great TP plays that resulted in a game changing comeback. Now the only time I see TP used is to get back to lane and you can only use tp like 5 times a game now IF you use it off cooldown every chance. So realistically you'll get about 3 tp usages per game.
Next on Impact, the fact that I can no longer impact bot lane is HUGE. Im tired of 3 dragons being downed by the enemy because my bot lane lost and I can do nothing about it but hope I can beat this newly empowered top laner. Again thats not a 1v1 lane. Thats a 1v1 WITH being empowered with 2 infernal and ocean drake that our 15-0 bot lane got us. Yeah you gave us this shitty crab to compensate but realisitically, in SoloQ the coordination is so lacking that it can only snag a single tower anyway. Cool, they get 3 dragons and the ability to control bot/mid and I got an extra tower top taken. thanks. Top laners need to be able to get around the map again. Or get a better OBJ then this crappy crab. Period.

Fed Top Laner's Aren't Scary Most fed top laner's get out carried by other roles in the game. By the time this 13-0 renekton gets to us, this 13-0 vel'koz has already killed 3/5 members on your team. Same story for the other roles. The only time a fed top laner is scary is when they are split pushing which is a HUGE risk considering they are counting on the fact that their team can hold a lane 4v5 without getting picked. In a meta where I rarely seen games won by split pushes anymore, the fact that a fed top laner is worthless in a teamfight compared to a fed mage or ad carry is so frustrating.
