Galio's old personality spoke of justice and service. Only his pick line about pennance and retribution was the only gothic thing about him. His appearance didn't fit Demacian appearances ever - characters like Lux, Garen, and Fiora are noted by whites and silvers with gold detailing - Galio was a straight up gothic gargoyle. As for the new one, he does have a lot of relations to Old Galio. He's still built around his personality of being a protector and noble. He has an ability that launches little tornados, akin to his current ability that blasts a gust of wind for a trail. He will also have some version of Idol of Durand as a non-ultimate in his kit, Meddler and Reav3 have stated it wasn't shown in the video. He will also be focused around top and mid lane, still retaining his role as the anti-mage tank. So I disagree about him not sharing anything at all with his old self. He's still there, just retuned and reimagined to fit the new lore and the current state of the game.

I'm a little less peeved on the design as a whole (though I think it's a huge creative step backwards on Gali-bro), but Reav3's demeanor. It feels like he's off a script or making fun of the Q&A. Someone calls the base out and he starts in on the lore. In a MOBA... of original characters to it... he calls to the lore.
It feels like this is his first time on community rep.
The issue with his design is how bland and empty it is. It's some very disappointing contrast; even with Snaggletooth Poppy, it was the same feel she had before. Yordle made of weapon and armor.
Galio went from imposing, dark sentinel gargoyle to goddamn Ultraman and it's such a disappointment. What's worse is that even though his old design was... Well, old, it feels more modern and to League's standard of quality than the current design. Of course, I basically feel this way about a lot of League's recent changes... So maybe I'm big ol' bias boy.
I know they won't backpedal but they could improve on it. Bring out the potential of marble, go back to the gargoyle look; get rid of this putty soldier look, devoid of any embellishment or detail.
And what's this 'y'all jus haters' attitude he apparently has now? Maybe I'm misinterpreting that intro line of his... I hope so.
I, for one, am just shocked this was what made the pass. All the other big reworks took and enhanced, modernized the old designs. This just feels like the opposite of his old design... Wouldn't that just be better for a new champion? That white marble look would almost be better for a possible rival to Galio...

I also played 1 random urf match a while ago and noticed that Warwick was completely changed as well. The xerath rework was the first controversial change, then fiora, etc etc. I don't mind number tweaks and reforming abilities to work better, but Cmon! At this point, riot is essentially deleting old champs and replacing them! can we at least get a new game mode that is essentially Aram, but brings back old kits? I really like the new champions and where this game is going, but I feel like we are losing small bits at a time of what made this game great! I don't want to be that guy that says " change everything back rito or I'm quitting " because they don't care and that's not going to change anything, but really, every season this game slowly loses its origin. * end rant *

I will dodge an aram game (most of what I've played for years) now to avoid playing him. Everytime I see him pop up it still makes me want to cry, not the least because one of my siblings bought me the enchanted galio skin for christmas, which was once my favorite skin.
Now he's just a champ I have to rr or dodge, a person I won't touch, and a present I can't have anymore.
