Skarner's Crystals Idea
As everyone knows, Skarner's Crystals don't really serve to much of an exciting purpose other than some movement speed and attack speed. Meddler actually made a comment about something that might edge Skarner to actually want the crystals : We think mini games, when well done, can feel like a really fun, natural part of a champion's playstyle in a way that expresses their personality/theme. Draven axe catching for example taps into his show off nature, Bard's chime collecting fits well on a weird dude that wanders and saves things etc. If the minigame doesn't feel compelling, or doesn't fit with the champion it's on however then yeah, that can feel pretty jarring. I'd agree Skarner's an example of that - if he had a reason to really want to defend the crystals in the jungle it might be another matter (e.g. if they contained others of his kind, frozen, that could eventually come out late game and join his fight). This got me thinking, what if the crystals spawned something to assist Skarner? Why not let a little creature spawn in to defend the crystal? The crystal creature(s) would only go after things within the active AOE zone (think Wolf with Kindred's W being restricted to the zone), only attack champions when alone, attacks the same targets as Skarner when Skarner is in the zone (think Elise spiderlings and again Wolf), and don't draw jungle aggro making it so you can't use them to soak up damage in the jungle when clearing. For defending, the creature could lock the crystal from being taken by the enemy team until slayed. This would make it so the enemy team can't just ignore the creature and take it with 0 effort like they can now, that way it gives Skarner time to head over to defend the crystal and a reason to want them.
