Can Sion Shield scale off his HP instead of his Enemies?

Sion

Is there any possibility on making Sion Shield, the damage, scale on his Max HP (instead of his enemies)?

Sion stacking HP is kind of "his thing" and it would be nice if building Tank + CDR would help him achieve his "juggernaut" feel.

Right now his shield is only good vs tanks.... [zombie-nunu-bummed]

Idk man... Sion is pretty ok as is to me..

Sion is suppose to be a "Juggernaut", slow and immobile (true) and he should be a threat, especially late game.

Having his shield becoming stronger as he gets more hp could full-fill that fantasy

Ralanr25 votes

His title and his role are not the same. He's a tank.

:( i liked him better as a melee ADC.

DREADN0UGHT2 votes

I know his damage is not the best there is, even more so in late game since he is mostly built as a tank. But I find him to be quite useful for a range of things other than killing enemies. For example, my favorite thing to do as Sion in top late is to rush Zz'rot first, then get tiamat. When these are done, you just lay zzrot behind tower, and farm. If your lane opponent leaves, you just shove it and gank mid or bot with ulti, then return to lane with TP. Then go into Titanic Hydra, and tank items to follow.

In late game, its all about spliting a side lane with zzrot then forcing a teamfight with ulti. If you farm proper with Sion, usually, Titanic will give you that extra damage edge you need, and more so, When Zz'rot kills a minion, you get the gold and passive HP stack from it.

Sion also is a late game super-tank. So early is not supposed to be easy for him, but that doesn't stop you from being dominant. Maxing E really stings the enemy and helps counter shoving.

Silent Reaper1 votes

Most people agree going ZZrot + Hydra are optimal for Sion as he gets tons of health. But then he's left with only 3 item slots left (ignore boots). If he builds tank people ignore him in fights (not to mention he dies to ADC's easily) and his CC is unreliable If he builds Bruisers he dies too easily but at least he's not ignorable!

If we jsut shift power from his Axe Swing to his Shield he would be in a MUCH better spot as a tank.

Scoroct4 votes

idk why he is dieing quickly to adc's unless its kog or vayne, I feel near unkillable late game when built tank and still does really respectable damage from his base damages. Also if they are taking the time to waste abilities to cancel your Q or walk around it that isnt really ignoring him is it. He just isnt meant to go solo an adc like say an assasin or bruiser since he has a harder time getting to them. He is however really good at ccing front lines and zoning.

sirwaterfles1 votes

with sunfire and iceborn and full tank you can 1v1 the adc if he doesnt have to much hp scred.

Dan Abnormal4 votes

actually the best build on him is sunfire iceborn (what a surprise) and full tank. Dont even bother with hydra you dont auto that much so its not worth it.

Sion is not supposed to be a juggernaut, the only reason people think he is is because "juggernaut" is in his name, something Riot have said they regret in light of making juggernauts a class of champion. He is a crowd control initiation tank, he is not supposed to be a damage threat.

kile1478 votes

Juggernauts are immobile, high durability targets that lack heavy cc and remain a threat due to high damage output. Sion has an ult that makes him somewhat mobile, he has a spamable long range (possibly AoE) slow, and an AoE slow/knock up.

He is way too mobile and cc heavy to be a juggernaut. He is an AD Tank, like Poppy.

Hawkefire5 votes

Errrmmm....what?

Sion mobile? WHAT?

Sion is incredibly immobile and has to blow a very long cooldown to get a movement speed boost, granted it is a large one, but then there is the whole issue where it is relatively difficult to turn and basically unusable in certain areas.

I agree that sion doesn't really need any buffs, but calling him "mobile" is just downright false.

kile1473 votes

I mean he has a powerful initiation tool on a 36 sec cooldown with CDR. Is he going to be hopping around the map? No. But he's mobile enough but with tp he can be involved with any fight he wants to be a part of. I'll agree that mobile compared to Riven or Fizz is completely wrong, but he's more mobile than juggernauts.

Hawkefire3 votes

Sure at level 18 he can use his ult more often but before that it has a very long cool down.

Let's also not forget, that Skarner, who is also a juggernaut, has a movement speed boost in his kit, and is very fast inside his zones.

Venowolf1 votes

WHat about Skarner Skarner? I remembered very well that the 4 Juggernauts are Garen, Darius, Mordekaiser and Skarner, also they said that other 4 Yorick, Nasus, Olaf and Shyvanna are juggernauts too. Well talking over your point we can notice that Skarner doesn't fullfil the requierements to be a Juggernaut, he is not inmmobile at all, his W plus shrines makes him fast enough, he is high durability but he doesn't lack of heavy cc, his R is the most powerful cc a supress, his E is a slow that after a basic attack turns into a stun, he is no a threat in terms of damage right now is the jungle that deals less damage, so maybe I'm confused or you are wrong with the definition of juggernaut or riot made a huge mistake with Skarner class at defined him as a Juggernaut, because for me IMO he was a tank and still being a tank.

kile1471 votes

They said that including him in the juggernaut update was a mistake. They tried to balance him like a juggernaut when he really was and still is a tank, probably part of the reason why he was so broken on realease.

Venowolf1 votes

He is the Vanguard of Crystal so he is a tank vanguard.

ViashinoWizard2 votes

Exactly. Sion is already a strong lane bully with a powerful initiation ult and good CC. The fact his damage plateaus lategame is what keeps him balanced. Letting his damage scale off his HP without buying Hydra would be giving a lot of power to an already strong champion.

Spoofghoul1 votes

Have to agree with this

I mean we all did not like it when Riot decided to increase the shield detonate time by 50% ( 2second to 3) And then also decided to make his shield's hp% strenght increase with ranks.

AT no compensation

If anything i would want the shield to have bigger AP ratios, Shield durability imho could have a 50% ap ratio instead of 40%

As for detonating it i would suggest it would have 40% at 3 seconds 50% at 4 seconds 60% at 5 seconds and 70% at 6 seconds. And in addition to that it will also gain 0/1/2/3 % of Sion's max hp as damage the longer you keep the shield up.

Well you get the idea

By giving the shield better ratios it will open up alot more ap items for Sion to build increasing build diversity, and it will reward players who do keep the shield up longer with some extra damage.

DREADN0UGHT1 votes

That sounds all dandy. Nice idea. But his shield is so very easy to just burst down.

Spoofghoul1 votes

Thats why you should be rewarded for keeping it up by timing he activation, dodging skillshots and psoitioning and then timely detonating it before it breaks.

But you will still need to build some damage to really make it deal damage

The Yetii Rider6 votes

The actual shield scales off his health...

The damage portion isn't relevant. Sion is a tank champion, he's not a juggernaut. He's not intended to deal a large amount of damage. Building health and armor/MR on him rewards you by making your shield beyond godlike, and the Health stacking from his W passive also encourages this. The champion doesn't need damage, he's a good balance of damage, CC, durability and mobility.

NazZomLord4 votes

Trust me, Sion needs no buffs. He is very strong as is. Anything buff wise would bring him over the edge. He is almost at a 54% win rate.

Silent Reaper1 votes

His high winrate from LoLking stats comes from Gold, Silver and Bronze....take those out and his winrate is sitting between 46%-54%, and about a ~51% winrate avg.

I'm not saying "buff" him. I'm saying make him more thematically coherent

EndlessSorcerer3 votes

You realize that pretty much every champion sits between 46% and 54% right?

Cept Poppy jg.

EndlessSorcerer2 votes

"Pretty much every" were included in that sentence.

She's still within the range in her main role (that is, top lane).

Ralanr2 votes

At 47.

Sorry. The removal of her AA reset and the ruining of her jg has left me very salty.

Abyssphere3 votes

Sion's shield's damage is based off enemy HP so it remains relevant against all types of champion, regardless of how he's doing. Make it scale off his HP and it's more effective against squishies than enemy tanks and a fed Sion will be doing way too much damage.

Strawberrycocoa3 votes

I think hitting for 10% to 14% of max HP iin an AOE is pretty strong as is. If that percentage was based of SION'S max HP, it would hit squishies way too hard.

Sion can very easily hit an average of 4500 HP, probably much higher but lets use a reasonable number. 14% of that is 630 damage.

Squishies generally have about 2500 HP on the high end, with carries having as low as 1900 since they don't build any health. So lets say an average squishie will have 2000 HP. That same amount of damage becomes 32% of a squishie's health.

Dealing 1/3 of a carry's HP in an AOE would be insane. I don't see it happening.

Zelnorack1 votes

There is 1 thing about that though, most ADCs, if not all of them, grab an obnoxious amount of lifesteal. 630 damage is healed up easy enough in 2 seconds.

Especially when an ADC can just grab item 3036 and completely fuck a tank in those 2 seconds. Okay, that was a hyperbole, it'd take around 6 seconds. If the tank was Sion who only built armour items, like item 3068 , item 3143 , item 3075 , item 3025 , item 3742 , and item 3047 . And had a pretty large amount of farm. Well I'm just adding an even larger over-exaggeration

but the point is, while the damage would be completely monstrous, it'd also FORCE the ADC to deal with the tank, rather than straight up ignoring him because the tank is nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

Strawberrycocoa1 votes

Yeah but can they do that while stunned/knocked up or otherwise CCd, and can they do that while a tank is sitting on top of them pummeling them?

Zelnorack1 votes

if that's all Sion is doing with the previously mentioned build, then he'll get off maybe 1000 damage to the ADC and then the ADC will lifesteal it all back and slaughter Sion in a few seconds.

The worst part of Sion is how painfully long it takes any CC of his to come out. It's so damned easy to dodge. Sion won't even be able to get a half-charge Q to knock them up because of all the mobility nowadays.

Secret Butt Fun3 votes

As a Sion main, I don't think he needs buffs to his damage, he needs some QoL changes to his ult.

If you start to ult directly behind a minion, instead of ignoring collision like you should, you'll veer off course immensely as though you were not using it. If you ult to use it as an escape, Ekko's E shouldn't stop the ult if he attacks you from behind; it's as though his hit box literally goes inside yours when he uses E. Hitting the wall at a certain anglewill bounce you away from it at the same angle you came in; while this opens up room for some really niche plays, it's sometimes better to just hit the wall and hit them with your slow instead.

A buff to his steering strength would be nice too, just a bit.

Keti2 votes

Sion definitely does not deserve any buffs right now. He's a top tier solo queue top laner.

Lord Galvatron2 votes

Sion is in a nice place as of now. One of the main reasons why people feel that he needs buffs, is because he is a rare breed of tank that requires a surprising amount of mechanical skill using Q , E, and R in order to do his job properly. Almost everyone knows how easy it is to dodge the average Sion Ult that's not point blank.

Wheatloaf2 votes

If his shield damage scaled off of his health, it would end up only good against squishies, where he's more often staring down the opposing tanks later in the game.

As for my logic, 14% of Sion's health is going to be a hell of a lot more than 14% of [insert 90% of ADCs/Mages here]'s hp. So they'd have to lower that pretty significantly, which would make it do fuck-all to another tank.

Ralanr1 votes

This might warrant nerfs, but at the same time it would make his shield a better aggro mechanic.

Tricky.

Silent Reaper1 votes

Well it won't be too bad because he only gets more damage if he builds tanky.

Over Innsmouth14 votes

Not to burst your bubble, but there are certain reasons that people don't like champions that get damage from building tanky.

TahmKench

Silent Reaper4 votes

People don't like Tahm because he has Nunu's syndrome, which is CC locking you, permanently,

Sion can't do that.

Over Innsmouth3 votes

In my experience, 40% CDR builds have more than enough power to hold someone down for as long as the Sion can land E-Q-AAs.

But you're right, he's not as obnoxious as Tahm.

junglerboy164 votes

A good Sion who balances his cooldowns gets pretty damn close to permanently CC locking you (not necessarily hard CC, but if you can't run away or fight back, it doesn't make that much of a difference).

Crett1 votes

What people don't like is how Tahm forces you to fight him. Being outstatted by him wouldn't feel nearly as bad if you could run away or at least didn't die being stunned and eaten.

Ackelope1 votes

if his stun consumed the passive stacks, I think he could have a lot more potential for power increases/changes in other areas, and people would complain about his stickiness a little less, hopefully...

Venowolf1 votes

For me that stun+eaten combo has a lot of sense thematically and is difficult to land, also Tahm loses the chance or the potential chance of save some of his allies, so that combo comes with a consequence, other interesting data is that I don't lose against a Tahm in a long time, 44% win ratio (right now the lowest) is a data that show us that the combo is not too opressive and obnoxious at all.

Ackelope1 votes

Things can be incredibly obnoxious while still not being very powerful, and I think Tahm is a decent example of that, and his potential power/obnoxiousness is probably why he was repeatedly nerfed until he reached the point that he's currently at. When this is the case, you change something about the champion to allow them to be decently strong while also being less annoying, and so I think making Tahm's perma-cc aspect less evident would allow him to be more powerful in the long run, while not being as annoying to people. That was what I was trying to convey in my post you replied to, I wasn't trying to insinuate he's overpowered, and I apologize for poor wording if it came off that way.

Ralanr3 votes

As a tank, Sion doesn't need more damage. He has enough to get the job of a tank done (and considering how telegraphed his abilities are, it's fair that his damage is already fairly high for a tank).

Silent Reaper1 votes

The problem is when he builds tank, he is VERY ignorable. If he builds damage he dies pretty quickly. There is no reason for his "Q" to have high AD ratios when we could buff his W to give it a more meaningful reason to build tank.

Ralanr4 votes

Well he does kinda need to force people to notice him, hence the power of his Q.

Why would he need a more meaningful reason to build tank? His shield scales with health, as does his passive.

As for his Q scaling, it's great for waveclear.

Last I checked he was number 3 in top lane champion winrates. He's a good tank, he doesn't need buffs. Certainly not ones that would lead to nerfs.
