We always talk about junglers and supports...

But dear god it sucks to be a mid main. Namely because you never actually get to play your favorite champ. And for me it's even worse, since my main (Xerath) doesn't really work in other lanes.

Got anything less than 2nd pick? Nope, no mid for you. Some scrub thinks he can solo carry with his Faker-tier #LC$BIGPLAY$ Zed/LB/Kat/[insert faceroll assassin here] and autolocks? No mid for you. Can your champion even semi-function in any other role (Cho, Liss, Vel, Morg, Kog, etc.)? Give or take 25% chance somebody's gonna autolock another mid, and probably one that can't switch with yours. In that case, no mid for you.

I'm glad I found Sona and have a nice and comfy 75% winrate on her (all aboard the Support Carry Train summoner 14item 3100item 3285), but I am really annoyed by how comparatively little I've been able to play the champ I really want to play.

Meanwhile I play Brand support so I won't compete mid.

I don't understand why mid is so popular, no offense intended, compared to other roles.

If you like high output supports, Xerath can actually work. You lose out on Sona's heals (which you can replace by taking Heal or Mikael's) but you gain a stun, a slow, a long-range piercing Q, and a lot of damage. If done well, you can scare the enemy just by popping out of a bush with your Q up, blow it on some minions when they run away, and let your carry finish them off.
