"Better Nerf Irelia" - Patch 6.13

6/14 PBE Update

Irelia

  • Transcendent Blade (R) cooldown up to 110/85/60 from 70/60/50

Too much laning pressure? Context would be nice from Riot.

Personally I find her ultimate to suck either way. No real damage (since Irelia's normally go high AS and then tank) and its healing is garbage in team fights.

Her ult is almost comically underrated. A lot of her damage comes out of getting 4 spellblade procs out of it, that's not a little damage. This is a pretty justified nerf, her ult has always had too short a cooldown. You can use it casually for things like clearing waves before you back and then odds are good it'll be back off cooldown the next time you all in in lane.

It might be a bit excessive is my issue with it.

This. The nerf is rather huge. 40 extra seconds at rank 1? OUCH.

She's arguably the strongest top laner in the game. A 40 second CD increase alone is very unlikely to be excessive. It will hurt, but she has a long way down to go.

Too strong currently yes.

Requiring a nerf like this when she already had within reason counters? And all of her other damage is single target? It seems like a bit too much.

This is not a reduce damage by 5 or AD ratio by .1 on an ability nerf. This is a clear increase in time of vulnerability. IT is also nerfing her sustain.

She's above 50% in almost every matchup. She's dominating her best matchups and is at almost no disadvantage in her worst. She's the strongest top laner in the game. Yes, she needs a large nerf.

It seems like a bit too much.

I'm not seeing it. We've seen more ult-reliant champions get similar nerfs without losing the amount of power that Irelia would need to be weak. I do not buy for a second that this nerf is too harsh. I'm questioning how much follow-up nerfing she'll need.

I'm perfectly happy with Riot for taking the nerfing slow of course, but I do predict more to come in the future.

"Vulnerability" while she already got free flat health from her w which is even doubled by pressing a button.

It is EXTREMELY excessive.

Yeah, except it will be just first of a few nerfs to Irelia, before they rollback TriForce buffs which is why Irelia is on the radar again. Knew this was going to happen as soon as those TriForce changes came.

I actually think this one on it's own is going to really hit Irelia hard. A lot herder then most people think since they don't understand how much of Irelia's power was provided by her ult.

320/480/640 + 2.4 bonus AD and 2.0 AP is not a small amount of damage. IF you survive her full combo once you are literally going to be free for at least another 23 seconds early to mid game before she can even try again and that is if she has maxed 45% CDR.

Her snowballing ability is actually rather hard hit with this. Her lane dominance when ahead is hit. Her recovery is hit.

This is not a love tap, This is a nerf nuke.

You're overreacting. A single well-used ult can get her ahead in lane, and it's hard to take a lead away from Irelia once she has it unless your champion outscales her.

I doubt they'll nerf her much after this. She's already getting an indirect nerf visa Fervor of Battle (her ult procs it a lot of times) this patch.

why does the hero that gets 2 nerfs in 4 years continue to have a meme about being the victim of repeated nerfs

Say what you will about her ult having low damage in a vacuum but it's a bunch of extra burst on irelias already high burst kit. maybe people will be able to walk into lane without irelia instantly forcing them out with an ult trade.

The nerf is very well justified and I think it is very much needed. Good job rito.

The context is that her ultimate is up almost every single time you fight her, and she's way too strong. Those combined make for a good nerf.

Personally I find her ultimate to suck either way.

It's 320 damage at level 6 and a quarter of that in healing (plus whatever you get off any minions you hit). It's perfectly fine. Add in that it gives spellblade procs and it's giving her more than enough.

That healing tends to get cut in half by natural Champion armor. Players don't even have to buy an armor item to significantly reduce the healing.

I'm aware. Point stands. Ult is good, she's too strong, needs a large nerf.

I do think Irelia is a very strong top laner, but definitely not the best top laner. She does deserve a bit nerf, but 40secs on her Ult at rank 1 is overdoing it. Her Ult provides good damage and sustain. Especially at early stage of the game, not to mention it's her ONLY skill does damage to multiple targets.

Moreover, I believe Triforce buff also gave a lot of other champions similar advantage. Such as Jax, and Jax is not taking any nerf from the patch. Jax has been a very strong champion for a long time due to his skill kit. Darius 1-hit turned Max Stacks Armor Pen is not taking any nerf at all. Garen...oh, he's just terrible lane bully in the right hand. All these champions aren't taking any or much nerf in recent patches.

Honestly, I think this is like Poppy nerf. When someone is rather popular and strong. Riot wants to nerf them so other champions could get more chances to be picked.

Popularity is a biggest reason behind the nerf. Overpowering other champions is just a small part. Riot just doesn't allow popular yet strong champions to exist. Look at Reworked Poppy's win rate drop and chance to be played top lane after the nerf patch. Irelia will suffer the same fate, not because of her overpowering status. It's because of her looks and popularity. Riot is telling us, you can't have it all in real life; therefore, you can't have it all in the game as well.
