One good thing about this whole Ardent phase...

Is learning when and why to delay Sightstone. Typically, supports rush Sightstone no questions asked, preceded maybe by boots or their T2 gold item. And it's a good rush, because with good warding habits you're mostly safe from roams and ganks, and you can also partially protect your jungler and midlaner.

This whole Ardent-rush craze has changed up my habits a bit though. I like to be aggressive in lane, and there's a lot of strong first-buys for supports that I never considered when I rushed Sightstone every game. Ardent first on Nami gives you crazy trading, for example, or Redemption first almost guarantees you win a fight for dragon. Face of the Mountain first on Tahm Kench lets you all in fearlessly, and the slow from the shield gives you huge kill pressure if you have time to pop it. And in general, buying early power over vision on supports like Nami, Kench, Thresh, and Brand actually makes you a serious 1v1 threat, and I've found a lot of success invading the enemy jungler solo, when usually all I can do is deep ward to keep track of them.

So, yeah. Ardent ruined Worlds, but I like what the prevalence of this item - or just the idea that there are more valuable first-buys than just Sightstone - has done for the support meta.
