Why not have top laners fight in bot and bot laners fight top?

Just wondering what would be the pros and cons of fighters and tanks fighting each other in bot while the ADC and support fight against the enemy ADC and support in top.

So far this makes me think that these fighters and tanks have a better impact early game because of dragon, and the ADC is more of a risk to gank because you lose dragon pressure. So if they get less ganks then they get to farm better in lane.

Thoughts?

Generally, top laners rock teleport, as it allows them to show up bot (or for dragon) as needed. Support and ADC wouldn't take TP, so they couldn't assist with drag at all. Since dragon is back to seeming more valuable, it makes sense to be able to easily have 4 of the team there for drag, while a 5th is just a TP away, rather than only really having 3 to send to drag with no TP possible.

Not only that but Rift Herald was changed into more of a "Top Laner" buff since it's only active when away from teammates

It has something to do with the length of the lanes I think.

I never really understood that honestly.

Top and bottom are the same length. Bottom is traditionally the duo lane because of its proximity to the dragon. Mid is the shortest lane, which is why mages traditionally go there as they are more fragile than your typical top laner and need to be able to retreat to the safety of their tower quicker.
