@Riot balance team Why is Nasus attack range 125?

A Bad Nasus··15 votes·1,828 views

Wasn't 175 supposed to be the new juggernaut standard? Also whats even more confusing is how Yasuo Fizz have that range with all the mobility in their kits.

Juggernauts with 175:

Garen Darius Mordekaiser

Juggernauts with 125:

Illaoi Skarner Nasus

So I don't think it's Juggernaut standard, just another balancing lever. In particular, Nasus is balanced by his difficulty in reaching his target, so a bit lower base AA range seems okayish to me.

This. I also suspect Nasus didn't get his basic attack range adjusted because he already has range-extenders on both his Q and his ultimate, which provide that extra reach he needs. Personally, though, I think it would be a lot cleaner if he lost the AA range increase on his ult (Renekton doesn't have one on his) and instead had his basic attack range increase to 175. That would likely entail many more balance changes in order to prevent him from going overboard, though, e.g. reductions to his movement speed (which is at 350 right now, one of the highest in the game, and far above the average speed for a Juggernaut), and it's likely that if Nasus were to be standardized in view of the Juggernaut update, it would make sense to coincide that with any other more in-depth work that he could potentially receive.

I definitely agree with this.

Nasus was updated with the Juggernaut update, he was given extra range when Q or R are active, so there's that.

A Bad Nasus1 votes

From what I remember, Nasus had his attack range buff from his ult since season 3. The extra 25 range given to his q was to compensate for the horrible creepblock that everyone was experiencing sometime before the juggernaut update.

Trundle ?

I would call him more of a juggernaut and he has 175

Orangesilk1 votes

He and Mundo are somewhere in a grey space between juggernauts and bruisers.

I specifically chose the champions Riot recognized as juggernauts back in the juggernaut patch.

They released a list of subclasses here with an updated Juggernaut list. Skarner is now a Vanguard (a type of frontline Tank) and not a Juggernaut anymore.

Found the champion subclass list they released a while ago looks like they are classifying skarner as a tank now. Illaoi is a special case, even though her play style fits the juggernaut thematic she is also one of the few that can dish out considerable damage from range via her q, e and tentacle spawn.

Orangesilk1 votes

Let's see how the list ends up then:

175 Juggernauts:

Garen Darius Mordekaiser Trundle

125 Juggernauts:

Illaoi Nasus DrMundo Olaf Udyr Volibear Shyvana Yorick

Still favors 125 as a juggernaut standard though.

EDIT: What language do you browse the Boards in? xD

Definitely not the language of the link I gave you lol.

Akali is SO HOT7 votes

His Q extends his auto attack range

A Bad Nasus3 votes

That's true, by 25, making it 150.

His Q extends his auto attack range

and so does his ult, what i don't get is why they don't stack with each other it really should

Death by Glamour3 votes

Well how hard can one of his empowered autos hit?

To aswer your second question its likely because they are usually against long range mages

A Bad Nasus3 votes

His SS can only hit as hard a well as he farmed which is determined by how much pressure his lane opponent can apply, jungler involvement, whether bot lane can manage without tp ganks, etc. The state of the game is never the same each match so it can be difficult to give an estimate when there are so many variables involved.

This is where things start to get sketchy. Should the meta decide whether a melee champion gets a larger or shorter auto range? If it was meta to play Nasus mid should his attack range be buffed accordingly to make up for his lack of mobility?

Yasuo Lets not forget that he has elements in his kit meant to counter ranged. A passive shield, windwall, and his dash that can be spammed as much as there are minions in lane to gapclose, deal damage, and dodge skillshots. His q (standard) has a range of 425.

And Fizz though more binary, has a passive that enables him to walk through minions and take less damage from autos. Both his q and e can be used to juke, gapclose, and deal damage. His ult is ranged, amplifies his damage, and applies a persistent slow for the duration.

Both of those champions have passives and abilities that enable them to play against ranged champions, having 175 attack range just appears to be icing on the cake.

Someone said some time ago that Fizzs autoattackrange was higher because he has no ranged abilities and would otherwise be crushed in a lane, dominated by ranged champions. He got 175 range to at least get some cs without blowing 90 mana to get 1 or 2 creeps

tfw you realize Fizz is getting nerfed to 125, so your thread is now irrelevant.

HorusEye6 votes

Afaik, they've reverted it back to 175. Your comment is the one being irrelevant.

His Q and R extends his range

Revali2 votes

Nasus actually gets 175 range when he's buffed up by his ult. illaoi has a 200 unit (Correct me on the number if I'm wrong please!) auto attack when her w is active. and skarner is kinda left in the dust.

Orangesilk1 votes

Illaoi kinda hops a bit when performing her W empowered auto attack.

That and the irrelevant slow on losing Test of Spirit are their idea of "Utility" in her kit.

The Bardic Gay1 votes

The slow is actually pretty useful during ult since the spirit tends to die during the duration of her ult. It also allows her to assist in chasing even if theyre at a distance since the slow applies if you break the teather and if they don't break the teather they run the risk of eating a big chunk of damage AND getting slowed.

Granted, its nothing amazing, but it has its uses here and there. I would prefer a mini cc like on trundle's q on harsh lesson though.

EndlessSorcerer2 votes

It was less of a "juggernaut" standard and more for champions wielding larger/longer weapons.

Honestly, Nasus doesn't really need the additional attack range; it would be nice, but he's already in a pretty good spot and doesn't need buffs.

He has 175 range while his R and/or his Q is on

Nasus is given a shorter AA range to make him a little sissy girl in the early game.

FantasySniper1 votes

Melee ranges in general are weird. Tahm Kench uses his tongue and has 175 as opposed to the giant ascended warrior using what can only be best described as a warstaff having 125.

zlumpy2 votes

Maybe everyone should start using there tongues.

YJRBqwXJcS1 votes

on top of his q already extending auto range, his w slowing people, and frostborne being a perfect tank item on him.

you want his auto range to be increased so his Q can increase that to well over 200?

SirPurrr1 votes

Or why is Mundo's? Nautilus, Sion, Kench and a whole bunch of champions of that size all have larger AA rangers along with good CC.
