We all know how Riot intentionally makes things meta

We all know this. Otherwise they would actually fix things like Tank-Assassins or would have fixed Zed being OP (When he was) within a week.

Why doesn't Riot make something considered "troll" as meta? Like, just buff the fuck out of Urgot and make him intentionally better than every other ADC, like what they did with Lucian back when he was OP. Of course they EVENTUALLY have to nerf them, but they apparently don't have to do that for a month or so judging upon how long it takes to hotfix blatantly broken things.

Just a thought. If you're going to intentionally make champions better than other ones, atleast have some fun with it.

The thing is, balancing is harder than it sounds.

You can always say that a champion is OP/UP and he can simply get some number changes. Then, Riot has to look what exactly to nerf/buff which is healthy for the game.

And, when you change something on a champion, automatically other Champions get better/weaker.

Even some small number changes can have more effect than you think.

no its not, if you at all times have balance in mind Yasuo Azir Kalista would never have gotten past the design board

They're not really balancing mistakes - more design based.

Yeah, Deadman's is an overloaded bruiser item for the game. It may be awesome and a perfect fit for some champions that need it like Darius, but when a melee assassin gets it, it's stupid strong. You'd need to remove deadman's which isnt going to happen. I'd say just balance champions around the OP items so that it becomes an essential item instead of an OP item.

The problem is their company's structure being so disjointed and how little experience their designers have with balancing huge games like this.

Original people have long left the drawing board for the 25 year olds just out of college and don't even understand TECHNICALLY what they are asking for from the programming teams (yes teams, apparently they think its a great idea for separate teams to be working on the same exact sections of code without any real communication and even vastly different programming styles, as is customary when games are broken as fuck)

The problem is, you can balance something when you continuously keep adding random weight on both sides. Riot goes "WE NEED MORE CHAMPIONS AND ITEMS WHILE WE BUFF/NERF CHAMPS WHILE WE BUFF/NERF ITEMS WHILE WE BUFF TURRETS WHILE WE REWORK A CHAMP!!!!!!"

It's sure of a hell lot harder to balance something that's constantly adding new content without fixing the content they already have.

How to balance. Think of a time when the champion was "balanced". Think what has been changed since then that has made them stronger. Change item that makes them more powerful to make them balanced. See who else was effected by change. Are they now UP/OP? Fix that specific champion's stats to become balanced. Now you have a champion with balanced items and balanced kit/stats. Rinse and repeat. They keep trying to balance EVERYTHING in one change while adding 3 new changes in the patch so then there's even more things to balance.

Here's an excerpt example, so just part of the fix.

Tank Ekko.

what makes deadman's OP on ekko?

high raw damage, movement speed, armor, health

Ekko has high base stats

The added mobility and raw damage while giving him high defense stats onto his already extremely high mobility and base stats make him unbalanced with this item

Option 1: balance Ekko around this item by nerfing his bonus movement speed from 3-hit-passive and reducing his 3-hit-passive's raw scaling damage and increasing scaling Q damage.

Option 2: balance the item around Ekko by reducing stats on item then compensating Champions who need this item with higher scaling stats.

Item is designed for people with a weak engage to build tank and still do reliable damage (Such as Darius)

Ekko already has a strong engage and is designed to be a melee assassin, not a tank

Option 1 is most logical

Balance Ekko's kit around his ABILITIES and not his RAW DAMAGE by reducing 3-hit-passive's raw damage significantly and increase the AP scaling slightly, then increase raw scaling damage with Q from below his current damage to above it after reaching level 3 on the ability.

Champion now goes into beta, rinse/repeat

And this item will not only affect one Champion.

When you adjust these Champions, other Champions will get stronger/weaker. When you adjust these Champions, you'll have the same shit again.

For example, when you nerf Tank Ekko (not saying it wasn't needed), the whole top lane meta completely shifts around again. Then you have to consider what overperformers/underperformers you'll have to adjust next. Meta shifts again.

The whole balancing system is like a cardhouse. When you just shift around one thing a little thing it will affect the whole game.

Adding new stuff into the game makes balancing even harder, but even with the same content it is hard to find a perfect solution.

That's the thing. It's like having a bubble of air under a sheet of plastic. If you have to keep moving the bubble over until it gets to the end, you can't just half-way it. Moving the bubble in an inch up and an inch to the left isn't as effective as moving everything in the same direction.
