More item tweaks coming in Preseason 10? Is Riot ever going to look at non-assassin/botlane items?

I'm shocked reading PBE that so few item changes are coming in Preseason 10 when websites like LeagueOfGraphs have such insane stats on item buy rates and win rates. Certain items are so strong collectively that entire classes are building virtually the same core, yet they're adding yet another stat-stick laning item that threatens to cause virtually every AD top to rush it. Simple item changes are all that is needed to turn the meta from what is currently perceived as a one-shot snorefest into a more exciting and interactive one than it has been in entire seasons. Not even any big nerfs or buffs - just targeted tweaks to make items collectively less overbearing alongside Keystones. That's it!

item 3031 : cost 50g more. Despite having a near-14% buy rate the item isn't necessarily overpowered since it is inherently core on a role of champions. That being said, it is indeed ever so slightly too strong on certain champions that revolve around crit, particularly those that are melee.

item 3157 : cost 200g more, +10 armor. While mages consider many other defensive items they can't justify buying any of them because this is the best one by far, and thanks to its CDR and Stasis it doubles as an offensive item to boot. It should have a real cost tied to it considering how powerful Stasis has proven itself to be.

item 3071 : -5 AD, +50 HP. While it deserves to be a core item for many champions like IE, it's incredibly strong on anyone that can remotely proc it frequently while being extremely effective in lane, homogenizing many champions' builds and earning it over a 10% buy rate. It shouldn't be such a good damage item for how safe it is in lane and how easy it is to build on top of having 20% CDR and tank-shredding armor pen.

item 3078 : -5 AD, +50 HP. Trinity Force doesn't deserve that much AD next to its offensive stats either, even if it is the most expensive item in the game. Also 300 HP would mean there's another 3 in the item!

item 3165 : -5 AP, +50 HP. Similar to BC but for mages; extremely effective on anyone that can remotely proc its passive often while offering anti-class penetration to boot.

item 3285 : cost 100g more, -5 AP, higher base damage and ratio on its passive. This item has no direction and is therefore a catch-all offensive stat stick for laning phase. It deserves a bit heavier tradeoffs as well as a more unique trait.

item 3153 : -1% current HP on-hit. Even despite its nerfs over the years this is the most overloaded item in the game for its cost and doesn't deserve 8% current HP damage on-hit whatsoever, especially while Lethal Tempo exists.

item 3053 : -10% base AD as bonus AD, cost 200g less. Sterak's is bought on its own as a stat stick item for certain melee hypercarries and doesn't deserve that status whatsoever. The fact that bruisers and juggernauts are buying it is perfectly fine; that Yasuos buy it in over 40% of their games alongside no other HP items only helps solidify the champion's stereotype as brainless.

A separate point but weaker items could be viable again with just similarly small tweaks, such as 5 less MR for a 100g cost decrease for Banshee's to be more accessible and to line its MR value with other MR items. Regardless, these sorts of item changes injecting slightly more defense into the game so that everyone isn't obliged to buy pure offense and utility would collectively help the game out way more than any balance decision announced so far for preseason 10. How has Riot still not taken a serious look at their overly abusive item pool while they plan to add yet another overstatted offense item into the game? It just baffles me. It'll further baffle me if Lethality items turn out to be even more ridiculous than they already are come patch 8.23 despite how much fine-tuning they've been constantly doing for them on PBE.

Hopefully Riot will realize that their items are collectively out of line before they cross a line they won't return from, for their own sake as well as ours.

This feels like a large Zyra nerf. It's to soon to tell but it's not looking good:

  • Botlane xp changes will nerf Zyra strong base damage that spikes in the midgame.
  • item 3136 getting a new passive that doesn't effect Zyra's plants anymore onces their spawned. Currently they also don't refresh when they are enchanced by her ult. So these two combined & the rumors that the dot of item 3151 is getting nerf her core item will no longer benefit her that much anymore.
  • Now her defensive item item 3157 will cost 200 gold more. Good luck getting it on a support budget.
  • I always hate when I have to finish my item 3916 into item 3165 because it's so gold inefficiënt. This change isn't so bad, you won't be able to keep up with lategame damage anyway when you have to build this. So adding some extra defences to it can really help out.
  • item 3285 is a very situational item for lategame Zyra for cdr but very core on her sololane build. Only time will tell if the increased AP ratio would compensate for it.

It seems that Zyra is going back to a more tanky direction. I wouldn't exactly mind if that was the case. I'm just not sure that nerfing her midgame yet again it the solution. Keep in mind that Zyra has been indirectly been nerfed on her midgame for a few seasons now. Mostly shifting more power into her durability & lategame.

No offense, but this kind of tweaks that are purely numbers are best done informed by a ton of data analysis, and despite all their mistakes, this is actually one thing Riot is good at. I don't think that's an area where us players on the boards can usefully contribute.

Discuss the goals of your changes, what you want to see, why the current situation doesn't satisfy you. But suggesting raw number tweaks just because, nope.
