Why not warn people about their pings?

why is it that you don't have the client test our ping and warn us if it's too high? then you could punish people with high pings who play knowing full well they aren't capable at the moment. also there should be a warning bar on the launcher or something to tell us the amount of players experiencing lag. cause with all the jumpiness i can hardly tell if the player is actually lagging or not. or you know, do what every other multiplayer game does and add a function where we can see their ping.

[edit]: if you are going to post on this thread, make sure to read through it and add ideas that are more fair, not just complain.

Why would we punish people for having bad pings? That's not a good idea.

Because what's displayed in game is actually bullshit. My game ping might hold steady at about 115, it doesn't show spikes up to 300+, or take rubber banding into account. How awesome would it be for Riot to implement that, and basically everyone east of Chicago (not the pizza) get punished for the company's crap infrastructure? That would be AWESOME.

I agree the Client should show you your Ping, and then you can decide if you want to play.

I have random days where I am running like a 90-100 average ping, but get spikes up to sometimes 300. (I would also like to add that this can be right after I get into several other multiplayer games with no issues. Fix the netcode Riot)

I disagree about temp banning people or anything like that if they have high ping. Just NOTIFY the player before they get into a match and find out Riot servers are sucking for the day.

Riot's not {{summoner:2}}. They can't detect in advance how your ping would spike during games. No one can... why you punish us for dcs rito? Although, in riot's defence, they can't really distinguish rage quits and accidental dcs... the afk queue thing is just down right stupid.

if people with high ping cant play, that would take out 1/4 of the league population playing, thus less sales

They used to let you see people's ping while in the loading screen, but they took it out because "it created toxicity before the game started"... They say to check your ping by loading into a custom game before playing pvps so you dont get banned from dcing, but that doesn't work. I usually get 92 ping, but it will shoot up to 700 randomly and stay there for 2-3 minutes, then go back. Happened once during a dragon fight where i was the jungler, so we ended up losing drag and the fight, and another time where i was support and i was roaming mid and i just walked into lane, our mid engaged, and i couldn't follow up with q and r as braum because it happened again..

Because punishing players for stuff that is NOT their fault is a good idea...

So because Riot doesn't have East Coast severs I should be banned? Please tell me why a multi billion dollar company not shilling out a miniscule payment for something that literally every other game ever has is my fault...

You use to be able to see ping. But riot thought it was toxic so they removed it.

I recall a time back in the day where, during the loading screen, everyone's ping was displayed. This wasn't the best thing, as it led to players singling out the highest ping player and hassle, heckle and kill over and over again.

it would be cool if there was a ping display in the top corner of the client.

I like the idea of being shown your ping, this would be great! This east coast lag thing i don't understand, I live in VA and stay at 90 ping, which is very much playable, tho I wish it was better... People trying to play competitively with high pings ruins the game for 4 other people usually and therefore I think, if they choose to play, they should play amongst themselves or yea, be punished accordingly. It is very frustrating try to climb the ranked ladder getting in a game where someone is having connection issues, its almost an assured loss. Sure I have won my fair of 4v5 and been on the opposing side of a constantly dcing player, in either case I report that player AFK/leave, because I know I hate when it happens to me. Same with people playing on NA servers from south america or any other region for that matter, it's a joke, but hey, who am I to judge, again just match them with other high ping players.

Lagging during high traffic hours is just a part of having poor internet, I cannot play ranked during the evening because the congestion makes me spike, it's sad, but I'm not going to make 4 others suffer for it by trying to play ranked, if i want to play in the evening, I play normals.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO MAKE OTHER PEOPLE SUFFER BECAUSE THE HAND YOU ARE DEALT.

Remember times when pings were visible for all teammates?

Somehow Riot decided to remove it. Argument was like "cuz it made ppl flame each other" Sorry but if someone downloads stuff, has open browser and torrents and he playes a pvp game then he indeed NEEDS to be flamed.

EDIT: ofc sometimes you have high ping for some mysterious reasons and that's not your fault. I understand that very well. That's why implementing some ping indicator in client would be helpful, so you know when it's bad time to play.
