Isn't Camille far too overtuned at the moment?

Frontline Fury··41 votes·14,442 views

Whenever i see her played (or play her myself) it just feels like she outtanks every other top laner in the game except Darius.

Regardless of what keystone she is using, she can usually basic attack other top laners to death in the levels 1-3 with no issue. She is far too oppressive.

Champions like Aatrox, Malphite and Maokai had their base health reduced to compensate for their passives. Can Camille have, too?

her Q interaction with sheen was crazy to play around when she first came out, then it turned into a gimmick and I was tired of timing the q.

With so much true damage coming into play I don't think her q damage stands out anymore, she has a lot of mobility for how well her ultimate singles out people.

The issue comes when she doesnt need to single out people. Most of the time she can brute-force multiple champions because she simply has so much durability combined with her extreme mobility that nobody can defend themselves against her.

In lane, its often beneficial to just spam her Q rather than wait for the damage bonus due to the auto attack reset. That's how bad it's become.

Latex Choker2 votes

That's because Camille excels at short controlled trades where she has her passive and stun ready, and her Q is entirely % based so early on the true damage conversion and bonus damage of a properly timed Q aren't worth waiting an extra 1.5s of minion aggro and return fire.

However I wouldn't say that's an issue, as the alternative would be to make it so Camille cannot recast Q until it's primed which lowers her skill floor and makes it so in the late game she can't possibly fuck up her Q, which would be even more frustrating.

I wouldn't say that Camille is overtuned, but there's no denying that she's a very strong laner, and one who can punish you heavily for misplaying or not tracking her CDs properly. But that's why her CDs are so long early on, to give you a chance to fight back once she's done her stuff. Passive is a 16s, W is 16s, E is 18s, that's far longer than most bruisers.

Oleandervine4 votes

You know what will stand out about her Q? Stormrazor. She can not attack you for 2.5s - next auto becomes a crit. Then she crits for loads of damage, and now she's able to auto you FASTER and chase you, at least until she can Q2 you for another big load of true damage. Her Q with Stormrazor will hurt going in and out, and make her a terror.

Chembaron Yamada8 votes

Her Q can't crit, so she would have to go in, AA with crit, Q, AA until Q2.

dunder kill3 votes

little fun fact: when she was released on the PBE, her Q could crit. Yes, the true damage too LOL

Chembaron Yamada4 votes

Yep, but at least they learned from it it seems. For example, Urgot wasn't able to crit with W from the beginning.

Elohaven1 votes

Any Camille player knows that's not an issue. basic comb:

AA(Crit and Sheen)+Tiamat+AA+Q+AA+Q2+AA(Sheen)

Gimmick or not, dealing 1000 true damage every 5 seconds mid-late game is.... well, for lack of a better word, cancer.

I started maxing out W because it has the most range, and E is great, but I occasionally miss it on champs that can burst out of the way.

She has been the best champion in the game for a while now (in high elo), but Riot has released so many broken / toxic champions lately (ornn, galio, zoe, swain, kaisa, irelia, leblanc, rengar, khazix), she has been a bit under the radar.

Judging how Khazix has been the best assassin / aggressive jungler in the game for a year and half before they even bothered looking at him, It's unclear when Camile is going to be nerfed.

Jhobi1 votes

How are Galio and Swain broken/toxic?

cocacolalips1 votes

tanky bursty tanks/fighters/assassins thingies with tons of damage and disruption skills, they are a pita to deal with, they are very hard to kill, deals a metric tons of damage, and can immobilize you and your team for an eternity. both are pick/ban in competitive play

Ultîma1 votes

Little is going to stop Gnar, Swain, GP and Irelia from being the holy trinity of toplane if she gets nerfed though. I think Camille's main issue is not that she outtanks people top-lane but rather outsustains them with W harasses. I feel like her gameplay would be much better if she had to rely on her E-Q engages rather than play passively around that skill.

Skeletons Grave7 votes

level 1-3 is the least of your issues. Her Q mid game when she has Hydra, Trinity, and steraks pumps out 800-1000 true damage for just the 2nd Q. Thats close to if not more then darius and cho ults and its just a low cd basic ability for camille.

Latex Choker2 votes

To be fair, Hydra + Trinity + Sterak's is literally over 10K gold spent on pure offense, you give Darius those same items and he'll be W'ing you for 800-1000 too, granted as physical damage but he doesn't need to backload it and has innate armor pen.

Maybe, she's really benefiting from overtuned Jungle at the moment, as she has insane gank folowup and good safety.

If she keeps her current impact after the Mid season, she might see nerfs, but probably nothing before that.

That's a good point, he 2vs2 strengh is insane by how easy is for her to divide the enemies.

she needs very big nerfs

She has been overtuned for months now. Riot will do nothing sadly.

I would make a comment but I've never faced a Camille with nayone other than Darius Renekton and Nasus and I facerolled her in all of those matchups

Latex Choker1 votes

I hate fighting Nasus so much as Camille, you can bully him as much as you want pre-6, but once he has ult and sheen he can just run you down like an animal. Darius and Renekton are a bit more manageable, but still really tough to deal with.

TaroBunni1 votes

Yeah, if there's someone I can't handle as a Camille top, it's Nas. He's just been a crazy slaughterer and the range of his circle of death or whatever it's actually called is insane. He's much tankier.

Camille's exclusive source of mitigation is her passive, a 20% max HP shield which is... kind of a lot, actually. It gives her a better defensive steroid than Ornn, Sion or Nautilus which is... odd. Only protecting against one type is irrelevant as long as the shield is completely consumed or your opponent does only that kind of damage.

That said, this:

she can usually basic attack other top laners to death in the levels 1-3 with no issue

isn't really true. She can win trades early but struggles with extended fights, especially levels 1-2 where she does not generally have her Q. Her laning phase is below-average (although not awful) and she scales well into the mid game since she spikes hard off of certain items.

If you want to compare her to Fiora, which is probably her closest mirror in terms of what their kits do (mobile, AA focused true damage dealing), she has identical base AD with ever so slightly higher scaling (0.2 AD/level). She has 2 more base armour and 25 more HP.

She's probably a little too tanky. The nerfs on PBE to runes she takes (Chrysalis, Bone Plating) are going to help reduce that but a lot of other top laners are taking the same so probably won't impact her that heavily.

Camillie is an LC$ champ. she's not getting changed until the meta shifts and she's not played in competitive.

Camille is fine. You counter her by one of 3 ways. Do more burst than her (which most damage champions can do), have more sustin then her (like most tanks do), or cc the hell out of her (like most mages and tanks do).

She's in an OK spot at the moment but I'd not say she's overtuned. Her kit just gives her engage, a shield and a stun in exchange for mediocre burst damage (pre triforce/steraks) and mediocre tankiness.

SithesisLord3 votes

Camille is fine.

Oh yeah she's fine

Do more burst than her

800 true damage says hi.

have more sustin then her

Against Camille? Considering she has a shield, a small heal and can get Ravenous?

or cc the hell out of her

Which she can dodge with ult unless it´s a tether.

Camille is not a Diver. She's THE Diver. Jax, Irelia, Renekton and basically all the other Divers just try to be like her, to varying degrees of embarrassing failure.

PAHAHAHAHAHAHA that's a goo- Wait. This isn't Memes and Games.

Rexxiee3 votes

Shes absolutely broken and is strangling the viable pool of top laners.

She needs to be nerfed hard, shes the definition of powercreep and every other fighter will never be "viable" while her numbers are good because then she outclasses everysingle one of them.

Hypochondria93 votes

If Camille gets ahead of you in lane you can't even show up on her screen without her diving your ass at mach 10.

FalconPawwwwnch3 votes

Yep she's busted and has been for quite a while

NorthernRedStar3 votes

She's been the best top laner for months now. Abusing the Resolve tree to gain early tankiness comparable to a real tank via Chrysalis and Bone Plating. Procs comet and manaflow easily with her W. Just overall synergizes insanely well with the runes, on top of her kit being one of the most overloaded kits in league history.

  • Defensive passive
  • Gap closer
  • Steroids
  • Attack reset
  • Invulnerability frames
  • Ranged harass
  • Hard and soft CC.

It don' matter if she's facing squishies or tanks, Camille is the best duelist in the game in par with Fiora, but with better defensive tools and teamfighting / pick-off potential. You can't even disengage her effectively, because she can 1) dodge your CC with her ult, or 2) just re-engage with it.

Camille is the epitome of a scaling lane bully. She's essentially doing an ADC's job, just earlier in the game.

Ravenborn2 votes

That's the reason you try to bait out her shield....at early levels it will be difficult for her to damage you with her second Q since you can just walk away from it, you can easily just try to also bait her E and put her in a difficult position if she doesn't hit you with it something that she will probably regret if your Jungler is there.

IT3etlWEXJ2 votes

No she isn't

hi ìm groot2 votes

I dont feel like she's overtuned, I can always fight her fairly easily with other bruisers. But her mobility in a season where damage is so high already on everyone that you dont have to be ahead to one shot anymore, is pretty difficult to deal with as squishies.

TaroBunni1 votes

Absolutely, Camille is way too strong. I am not the strongest top laner, but once I build attack speed and damage, it's game over. Even if it's 2v1 in top lane, once my jungler comes around, we kill everyone. Udyr top. Darius top. Leona top. Whatever super tanky, overpowered duo that Riot's algorithm has thrown into the top lane, they're usually dead or beaten down until they're barely alive if I have a Warwick or Yi with me.

TaroBunni1 votes

What's the best build for her? I've been getting 2-3 Trinity Forces and I know it's probably not the best way to go.

Darkpittwo1 votes

Probably trinity force, tiamat item, boots based on the enemy team, steraks, then tank items based on their team such as maybe a spirit visage or randuins omen

mack91121 votes

I feel that Camille simply still suffers from new champ syndrome where alot of her lane opponents still don't know what she does so they feed her .
