Urgot actually has a ton of utility

  • 15% damage reduction for 1 or more targets
  • slowing auto attacks that also give him a shield
  • armor shredding E
  • suppression ult with displacement and damage reduction
  • decent poke in lane with Q

Why is he not played support more often? Is it because he needs gold/items to scale well? I mean, I'd just get item 3042 and full tank from there (including item 2049 of course). He could even take item 3303 in lane for the mana regen, since he's somewhat mana-hungry if you spam Q a lot. I just think he's a little bit underrated as a support champ. Maybe that could be his new niche when his rework finally comes?

i played him support he works very well, people just didn't discover him yet

build either item 3401 or item 3092 then item 2049 item 3190 mandatory, then item 3109 item 3123 is SO good against warlord adcs

item 3071 if you have a lot of gold take it for the armor shred

The main reason is that he's pretty unreliable, and his only hard cc is singletarget and on a long cd. Vs low mobillity/sustain lanes, he's certainly a good support, but if he misses his E, he's pretty usless for quite some time, and he doesn't have much peel later on if it's more than one opponent.

Also, i'd always get item 3071 and depending on theri comp item 3123, his E will apply full BC stacks for alot more armorshred, and a long lasting healing debuff.

I've tried him a couple times support. You basically have two options: full tank, or his standard hybrid build. After that you have two main problems with it; first, both builds are quite expensive which lowers your usefulness as either role, and second, he's simply outclassed. You can find a better support to fill either role. I'm still trying occasionally, I'd like to find something to make him work because he does have quite a bit of utility, balancing his build is pretty tough though.

I especially like his passive for trading in lane. It's like shielding your ADC but better, since a shield can be popped, leaving your ADC with no protection. But his passive is far more consistent damage reduction, and it affects EVERYTHING. You can auto the ADC and Q the support for a total of 30% damage reduction on the enemy, which is almost criminally overpowered IMO.

For builds, I'd go with something like this: item 3042 item 2301 item 3190 item 3025 item 3107 item 1001. These items are all relatively cheap; nothing over 3K gold, and getting the SS+Income combo item gives you an additional item slot to work with. I'd probably replace Locket with Black Cleaver if I was really ahead though. Plus, if your ADC ever falls behind, you have the option to build AD yourself and try and replace them.

Actually, it's a total of 15% damage reduction. 15% reduced damage from the ADC and 15% from the support is still 15% overall.

Uh.........no? If you reduce the damage their ADC is doing by 15%, then you also reduce the damage their support is doing by 15%, that's a total of 30% reduction of damage.

Danjeng2 votes

What the fuck? With your logic, with a whole team gets it to 15% x 5 = 75% reduction in damage.

Not sure if you are trolling.

Duke Anax2 votes

Or to make it more obvious: if he had 25% damage reduction, and hits a full team that be 125% damage reduction. So you reduce so much damage you get healed from it?

Nope that's Galio

Danjeng1 votes

Or a Garen being hit by four targets gets 120% damage reduction.

Math: Let's say the ADC and Support will both do 100 damage.

Both get reduced by 15%, so ADC does 85 damage, and Support does 85 damage.

Instead of 200 damage, they now do a total of 170 damage.

That means 30 damage was reduced.

30 is 15% of 200.

If it was 30% reduced damage, you would only take 140 damage (200 - 30%). That means the ADC and Support only did 70 damage each. Which means each of them had to be debuffed for 30% damage reduction.

But Urgot can only debuff for 15% reduction.

Here's some more math for you: 15 + 15 = 30. So Urgot will debuff his enemies for a total of 30% damage reduction. End of story.

So, you're trolling. Got it.

Or maybe you're just not very good at explaining things.

How I see it is: here's 15 of something, and here's another 15 of something. Add them up, and you have 30 somethings. In this case, the something is damage reduction. Urgot reduces one target's damage by 15%, and a second target's damage by 15%. So in total, he's reducing damage by 30%; 15% from one source, and another 15% from another source.

macromite2 votes

I can esplain for the dum dums.

30% of 100 is 30. 30% of 200 is 60. This is because you take 30 for every hundred.

So lets try some math. If 30% of 100 = 30 then how much does 15% of 100 =?

And then, let's go complicated. What is 30% of 400

Glory ln Death2 votes

Again. If one person would do 100 damage, they are reduced to 85 damage - 85% of 100% damage (100 damage). The second person would do 100 damage, which is reduced to 85 damage - again, 85% of 100% damage (100 damage).

100 damage is 100% for each champion individually. But, when both attack together, they deal a total of 200 damage. So, combined, 100% damage would be 200 damage. Reduced by 15% brings it to 170 damage.

How much damage do the two deal together? 170, based on 85 damage plus 85 damage. 15% damage reduction.

When 2 people's damage is reduced by 15%, their combined damage is reduced by 15%, because the total damage increases.

Please do begin. I'd love to hear what makes you think he's so bad.

I mean, comparatively speaking he might not be top tier, but there are certain aspects of Urgot that make him a capable support in the right hands.

macromite1 votes

his main weakness is his need to guzzle gold. for his mana addiction that is. its why no one does it really, he needs gold to succeed, and support is the gold starved role.

He's basically like Ezreal though in that he only really NEEDS a Tear for his mana problems. After that, any other mana items he gets are luxury items. Also the Spellthief's line of items will help greatly in-lane with mana regen. Once you've overcome that initial tempo hit of Tear+Sightstone, he can begin to focus on getting damage (if you're ahead) or utility (if you're even/behind).

macromite1 votes

problem in lies that needing anything is a really big deal when you need to get other things first, and also the fact that trying to find workarounds for a character that can only somewhat do a job is not as good as simply choosing a character that can more easily achieve the same result
