Why doesn't Yi have energy as a resource?

He's obviously better off without it, but you could probably say that about alot of energy based champions. The main reason why i brought this up in the first place is because I've noticed over the years that the "ninja-like" champions are Energy users. Personally I can't really call him a ninja, but at the same time he does not look like much of a swordsman either. The logic probably isnt gold standard.

He would either be worthless if the recharge is too long or broken af if it's too short. Energy is good for burst champions, but sustained carries like Yi need mana to buffer out his obnoxious damage. It makes spamming on him in the early/mid game a little bit more tiresome than on someone like Zed who can blow his combo, wait for ~10 seconds and do it all over again.

Well, ~10 seconds is selling it a little short for Zed, at level one his W, Q, and E have 22, 6 and 4 seconds respectively without CDR. On top of that, he has to wait for his energy to restore, so I'd say about 35-40 seconds.

But yeah, your point is still valid. Mana is much more better-suited to melee hypercarries such as Jax and Yi.
