this is why galio is getting a rework

not because he doesn't function, but because with new masteries and plausible item builds he became a high functioning ** AP burst mage**

(specifically looking at new catalyst options, 10% cdr on abyssal and zhonyas, and way less banshees/merc treds on the enemy team)

you take one look at galios win rate and you know hes strong. hes tanky, hes reliable. but as we all know "burst offers little to no counterplay" outside of counterbuilding and mechanics. all of which is coupled with low play rate and general lack of knowledge of what he can do.

galio is not clunky; as with all champions he just takes practice and then hes awesome.

its sad riot is going to turn him into something hes not........ a protector, a team tank, someone who covers allies "a mid lane mage tank" as riot would put it.

galio is great as is, he just needs a team who understands how to play with a galio, then he really shines and can pop off.

I'm sorry but in that video like 80% of the issue was half those player running into galio with like 30% HP. With No MR, Might as well call Teemo OP if they run into a jungle full of shrooms and get killed by them cause they continued to walk through it all beside one another.

i agree, the video is not an accurate depiction.

but all it takes is one team fight and it solidifies the late game. and without a dedicated counter it will win the game as a result.

galio is best suited to 5v5's and force an objective. he doesnt get that in the video (hence the end result defeat) hes just showing off his AP power.

I played Galio as a support for Kalista, We got a kill everytime both our ults were up.

No, full AP Galio is not why Galio is getting a rework.

Very Hard Engage1 votes

explain it to me why he "needs" it then when what we have is proven functional.

Ralanr2 votes

Only his ult actually encourages him to go into melee range for starters. Everything else is ranged and he's a melee champion.

Very Hard Engage2 votes

exactly, he revolves around his powerful, teamfight changing/turnaround ultimate, crazy how his other 3 abilities help him do that right? E to get in W to last the full channel duration, and Q to slow them from getting away from it.

its exactly the same getup as kennen, except instead of a taunt its a stun. and instead of ranged and squishy galio is melee and bulky. tell me whats kennen doing in a team fight besides his R?

You do understand poppy can ult/and dash him out of his ult. Soraka can silent his ult, GP can eat oranges and be K from the ult. Morgana spellshield. Bliz can pull him and cancel his ult. Hell even Lee can kick his teammate into the him if he is decent enough. Galio is fine, his win rate is high as hell because people HARDLY play him.

Very Hard Engage1 votes

of course, thats called counterplay. the staple of any healthy champion.

Ralanr2 votes

Except not really. His E wastes time to cast for such positioning, and if they're bunch in for you to Q them for a slow then you might as well flash in. His ult has such a long cooldown that the two go hand in hand.

Plus he was originally intended to be a warden tank mage for midlane. If he's failing to do that then there's something wrong.

Edit: and considering how his passive is barely utilized and is apparently better to not even use, well I'm sure you can see that's a problem.

Very Hard Engage2 votes

galio was not intended to be a tank. his whole backstory was artificial life created through magic. his RP was changed several times over the years from his creation.

lets see now, enemy slow, speed up allies, armor/mr steroid, self heal, and aoe taunt the enemies, yup seems to be functioning as a "guardian".

if galio was intended to be a tank he would scale off of health and or have shorter cooldowns with smaller AP ratios, but he doesn't, his AP ratios/damage are synonymous with other AP mid laners he deals way more damage than these guys. galios is even more reliable.

Really should not reply to this.

Galio was intended to be a protective tank because of his MR scaling passive, his MR boosting shield he can apply to allies, and the big teamwide taunt. If you haven't noticed, taunts are only held by tanks.

As for health scaling, not all tanks have health scaling. Rammus, Alistar, and Leona are three iconic tanks that have no health scaling abilities.

His ratios as they are now are a mess. As is why his mana costs are so high.

Dude is a bit messed up and doesn't do his intended job well or isn't viable in the way he was envisioned. That's why he's being changed.

Very Hard Engage2 votes

minus the fact that he has MODERATE scalings on AP ratios and HIGH BASE DAMAGES. (rammus has only 1 high scaling ability, and low base damages)

you literally have never done well with galio in your life, you cant possibly understand what he has to offer for a team.

galio used to be picked in LCS before powercreep happened. (albeit 3 years ago)

if you think he needs his power shifted, thats fine, DO NOT SAY HIS KIT IS BAD, BROKEN, AND DESERVES A REWORK.

What are you basing this on?

http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=Ralanr

just your match history

and champion mastery http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/49302816#champ-mastery 2820 galio mastery points, 2, maybe 3 games.

How far back do you intend to go? Cause I've played Galio. I've seen the ridiculous damage he pumps out. Hell I've gotten over 300 CS and basically became a rock against Heimerdinger.

Yes I'm not a main. I never said I was. Did I have to be a Poppy main to understand why she needed a rework? No.

Ever think that maybe you're being a bit biased?

Anyway, I'm done.

Based on that logic, Kassadin also needs yet another rework. Galio is one of the most balanced champions in the game right now. Why the hell Riot feels the need to fix something that isn't broken is beyond me. This can go one of the 3 ways. They'll make him OP as hell and get my main mid champ permabanned for weeks or months on end. They'll make him weak as hell and make my main mid uncompetitive. Or they very very rare possibility that they'll just turn him into a different kind of balanced champion which exactly what the hell he is now.

Riot really should be spending their efforts into reworking Yasuo instead of unpopular champs. Cause of his ridiculous kit, any minor changes to Yasuo's damage or any of his useable items make him OP as hell or weak.

Ralanr1 votes

Uhh...Kassadin's ult encourages the use of his W and E.

And towards the rest of your post: I've heard this response a bunch of times with Yorick, Poppy, and Taric. And I'm going to say something that I should have said to those.

You're wrong. Riot actually does know their game despite what you may believe, and they have priorities to make sure their champions are up to date.

Downvote me. I don't care. I lost all care in this topic when you mentioned they should rework Yasuo over Gallo.

I look forward to the salt that comes with his rework because you people clearly know everything better.

Goodbye.

"riot knows what its doing" - dynamic queue and thunderlords, ok ok, you got me, you let riot continue to do as it pleases.

im sure all of NA challenger players boycotting dynq and heading to tournament servers have no meaning at all.

they really really dont, they make mistakes, and they have in the past, many times. just look at kog for christ sake.

veigar was a hot mess for 4 solid patches until they managed to buff the crap out of what they originally offered us.

His kit needs more fluidity in it but I don't think it needs a complete overhaul.

That said the base damages are high and the scalings are moderate because Galio is expected to be picked into a comp with a lot of magic damage, meaning he will be investing in considerable amounts of MR, lowering the overall amount of AP he has in his kit. It's there to ensure his identity as a mage isn't completely overshadowed by his purpose which is to tank, and if he decides to go with more AP, then the moderate ratios ensure that his base damages don't turn him into a monster that goes around one-shotting people.
