I dont think anybody else has noticed this, but...
If Illoai is the last champion released this year, we will have not had a single knockup on a new champion this season. People last year would have never believed it

Insert Reddit Thread saying that Shory is shit now
R can only activate after landing Q and W.
Triple knockup, deals true damage.
Hidden Passive: Child support.
CertainlyT: WHERE ARE THE PASSIVES? THE 3-HIT MECHLONIC? WHERE IS THE %MAX HEALTH TRUE DAMAGE BASED ON THE NUMBER OF WORDS PER MINUTE YOU CAN TYPE?? THE MI N I G A EM ES ????!?
No no no, they wouldn't use words per minute, since they are encouraging ward placement, if you have 4 wards placed it does 100% of their max health as bonus true damage and can critical strike.
No, that's unfair and lacks counterplay
It'll only be 96.8% of their max health as true damage

Don't you mean at least 70% slow.
Tempting...
Seriously though, Illaoi will be the last new champion of the year. If all goes according to plan Illaoi will come out in 5.23 and the final patch of the year will be either 5.23 or 5.24, depending on how patch testing goes.

wait WHAT ABOUT POPPY?!?
Wasn't she coming out this year?
What have you done with the little ball of hate?!
He said new champion.
she's our Christmas present this year, complete with new Christmas skin coming out with her rework :p
why slow? give it gapclose and knocback...
Considering that we got
instead, I'm actually starting to miss knockups.
Tahm isn't so bad, he just does too much damage right now. Nothing they can't fix with numbers.
And then Poppy gets relaunched with a knockup passive on her AAs.
honestly if poppy doesn't have a knockup ima be sad
She's keeping her E, if that counts.
I think the
rework is going to come out in December. She doesn't really seem like she would have a knock up, based on her design.
knock ups are last years thing, this year it's multiple passives and true damage :p
what the hell happened to ao shin
what the hell happened to ao shin
I think he drowned in a ocean. heh heh heh. yeah ill leave now
Displacements count as knockups for Yasuo's ult, so Tahm spitting out an enemy is technically one.
Wait, seriously? Crap, we're behind quota! Break out the emergency overload injection kit! We need .50 cc of knockup on Illaoi's ultimate, stat!
Wow didn't realize Kalista/Rek'sai/Azir/Gnar all came out in 2014. Time flies
Wow, your right. Out of the 6 from last seasons all of them had a knock up except Gnar (he had enough CC already) Only 4 this year not one had Knock up
Gnar's ult includes a knock-up effect.
I knew someone was going to say that. Thank you for upholding the imperative impulse of posters need to correct everyone. It counts as a displacement plus stun/slow. Just like Alistars Headbutt yes it's technically a knockup for yasuo but I wouldn't call it a knock "UP" in any world.
What? So it is a knockup, but you decided its not. Im confused now.
What? So it is a knockup, but you decided its not. Im confused now.
Its a knockback but any knockback includes a knockup effect. Yasuo's ult says it only accepts knockups but lies and takes knockbacks as well. So no, its not a knockup.
Yas's ult doesn't say knock up, it says 'Airborne'. :3
When you're sliding on the ground you're not airborne.
That depends. Usually it knocks you off your feet and then you go sliding like in the animes, which is airborne enough for Yasuo.
It appears all of a sudden LoL is much more animesque than we would initially have thought.
Just wait. Before you know it, we'll have a swordsman who uses a black sword, then as his ult, he gets a white sword in his left hand and his AS is doubled for the duration.
And then we'll get a melee feminine dude with 700 range that upon ulting loses the ability to autoatack and becomes an angel with an uneven number of wings.
There's a lot of ways to define "knock up", but there is a practical (and thus natural) definition for knock up: Shit Yasuo can ult off of.
Knock-up is when a champion is sent skyward but not in any other direction.
Knock-back is when a champion is pushed awayfrom the activating champion.
Pulls happen when a champion is forced towards the activating champion.
Displacement is when a champion is shunted to the side of their original position without getting further away or closer to the activating champion.
But the similarities far outweigh the differences:
They are not effected by tenacity. I'm including QSS, cleanse, etc in this.
They all interrupt channels.
They stop the target from controlling movement.
Yasou can ult off of them.
Really the only one worth distinguishing from the others is pull, because those are used primarily to move the target over reasonably long distances instead plain cc.
Go ahead and call them all knockups then. I will call them what they are.
Yes, there are some very small differences between Knock Ups/Asides/Backs, but they are small.
For all practical purposes, Gnar ult is a knock-up.
Edit:
If you're going to get all snobby about the definitions, you might want to use the official Riot ones:
Knockback The target is made airborne in a direction directly away from the point of cast.
Knock Aside The target is made airborne in a direction perpendicular from the source.
Knockup The target is made airborne on the spot.
Pull The target is made airborne in a direction toward the point of cast, and in some cases over the point of cast.
You will notice that you lack a definition for Knock Aside, there is no cc called "displacement", and you lack a definition for things like Victor W and Ori ult.
Sorry but I think you lost the argument.
Yep, I sure did. I see now the error of my ways. Everything is a knock up! Oh how wrong I was. Maokai knocks up not back! Draven knocks champions up too not aside! Man, someone should really tell riot to rewrite the descriptions on a lot of abilities! There are so many that don't say knock up when they should.
Knock backs, displacements, etc. are just subdivisions of knockups. if you really wanna be that specific, it's okay and i dont think you should necessarily be antagonized for it, but saying that knockbacks arent also knockups is just wrong, things can fall under more than one category, ya know.
Actually, semantically speaking, a knock up is a form of displacement (like a square is a type of rectangle, or a Jack Russell is a type of dog). Displacement is the parent category. If I push you and you move backwards (a knock back), you were not knocked up (insert innuendo here). You, were, however displaced (as in moved from your current place in space and time).
Riot has an open relationship with vocabulary and semantic consistency, so from a game perspective who the hell knows.
I saw someone say that a knock up should be defined, from a game perspective, as "shit that Yasuo can R off of" and that is about as good a definition as any (even if technically, the displacement effect is a knock back and not a knock up).
A square is a type of rectangle.
A knockback/knock-aside/etc is a type of knockup
