In Hearthstone at the end of each season you are rewarded the rewards form the rank that you achieved the highest during the season not where you were at in the end. This would make hitting plat or higher less stressful and keep a good motivation to keep playing instead of not trying to rise up cause people are afraid to hit silver and not get the border and skin.

You can get on a lucky streak (or get carried hard, or get boosted hard) and reach a point where you do not deserve to be. The current system ensures that if you cannot play at that level, you will drop. Same if you do not play at least 1 game per month, you will decay.
If you really are plat, diamond, whatever, maintaining your rank should not be an issue.
PROJECT Katarìna1 votesI see so many of my friends that I know that can reach a higher rank straight through just mechanics but they dont just because they dont wanna risk it cause all they want is the season skin if not the rewards all together just the season skin would be nice even if you drop divisions

Mysticman891 votesBesides the boosting concerns, there's also the issue of it could get way less competitive as people all get to whatever rank they want and then just stop playing ranked.
If someone is currently worried about getting demoted a tier, then they either don't understand the tier demotion system or they really don't deserve the rewards of their current tier. (You need to have a mmr of (tier-1) 5 to be demoted from (tier) 5, so a gold 5 would have to be playing at a silver 5 level to be demoted, which is extremely improbable if they weren't boosted.)
