It's more a hotfix. The damage that come from his barrels was pretty rediculus. The reason why nobody has picked gangplank was because their where so many other powerpicks to trade from: Gnar Maokai Fizz Kennen Renekton Rumble Olaf Shen Vladimir DrMundo

I disagree, Gangplank is picked alot more lately tho.

I am kinda biased, but Gangplank is very usefull for his team. With, well the kegs and ofc his ultimate. He is also great in split pushing and destroying those pesky towers quickly. And is capable of destroying (if played correctly) most popular top laners.

"the champion has 60% armor reduction, he must be able to destroy every popular top laners"

Cool, are you trying to make a point?

The reason why nobody has picked gangplank was because their where so many other powerpicks to trade from:

Power is relative.

If he's weaker than the majority of picks then he's not in need of a nerf.

Indeed. In fact, GP needs a buff. A buff to his stick. Or make him a juggernaught.

But GP has all his damage loaded into his barrels at this point; hes a shitty AD caster without some form of slow. his stacking slow was extremely nice and complemented his kit.

I think he's in a fine place right now.

He's a decent situational pick who's not crowding out other champs.

He has 2 on his kit, one on barrel and one on his ult.

It was kind of trash. His new passive is way better.

He has his Q, which has a relatively long cooldown, and does 120+1.0bonus AD (i think?) He has his barrels, which do 1.0 total AD. He has his ult, which scales off of AP.

GP is most definitely a shitty AD caster. he has 0 mobility while being melee and only one decent ranged damage tool. I dont care if the new passive is good tbh. its NOT worth GP not having ANY stick outside his ultimate.

You could VERY easily remove his current passive, add it on to the barrels, and give him a 7% slow that stacks on basic attacks up to 5 times as his passive; that would GREATLY increase GPs pick ability and turn him from a shitty "i blow my load and thats that" AD caster into an "I can blow my abilities and still do damage" AD fighter.

He was worse if he blew all his abilities pre rework. If you know how to barrel chain properly you can use the barrels with an auto attack to deal damage from a range.

I know you're angry about losing old GP, but the new one is just better in every way other than maybe team utility.

... Pre-rework GP didnt have "blow your load" syndrome. He used Q, walked up while you were slowed, slowed you even more (up to 21%) and kept Qing until you got away or died.

Litterally the thing that allowed pre-rework GP to stick was his passive. Adding that on, SOMEWHERE (Even his his oranges. Acid burn or something. ANYTHING to give GP some stick and make him a fighter again.), would greatly increase GPs fighting potential. It is EXTREMELY unsatisfying to blow your load and just not be able to do anything as they flash or walk away because you had no form of soft CC to allow you to stick to them.

You're doing it wrong if people can simply walk away from Gangplank...

Current GP has great fighting potential if you know how to place his barrels. Movement speed boost + slow from barrels you can be very annoying in lane. You just need to know how to chain them.

And ones you have ult, people flash away or die, there is no walking away from here.

My guess is that a very small number of GP experts have absurd win rates because they've mastered the barrel mechanics which are deceptively hard to get used to. With his high play rate. 95% of GPs aren't gonna be a problem, but 60% armor shred combined with his high damage Q+true dmg passive is too much to give an expert that will reliably use it every time

Tworie2 votes

60% is a lot... like, that's more than an LW and Black Cleaver with max stacks combined when it comes to % penetration... and Gangplank's barrels can crit too... so you're pretty much chunking people for a lot of free damage.

Slyfoxkan1 votes

no it cant crit. only his base dmg can crit. barrel dmg shows crit animation because of the pentration but doesnt mean the dmg from the barrel + parrely is what is actually critting, only his base ad + the bonus ad (ofc)

Tworie2 votes

"Critical strikes against a keg will splash critical damage"

Slyfoxkan1 votes

dont think you understood what i said...

Example: gp parrely deals 125 max rank. he has 150 AD 100% crit chance and barrels deal 200. no other damage modifiers.

He parrelys the barrel dealing 125(parrely)+150(base/bonus AD)+200 (barrels) plus another 150 because of the crit. the parrrley and barrels do are not modified by crit only his base damage. get what im trying to say now?

Tworie1 votes

Yeah I get what you're saying, but you're wrong.

Slyfoxkan1 votes

about what?.. are u saying the dmg from parrley can crit or that the dmg from barrel can crit? because they cant. do tests bro :/ or read gangplank mains with my posts and other gp mains. we've tested this :P anyways unless u test it urself i guess ull just believe what u want.

parrley has 25 dmg rank one. barrel has 80 dmg rank 1. a gp with 60 ad is there and no crit. he parrleys the barrel and does 165 dmg in an aoe.

if he had 100% crit he would do 225 in an aoe. the extra dmg from parrley and barrel are not crit modified. next ull be telling me sheen proc can crit :/ ....

He is still useless (unless the GP is a god).

Because its a double nerf. they nerfed it BECAUSE of last whisper. Then they nerfed its interaction with last whisper.

Earl Eulrich1 votes

because they made him a bullshit one dimensional champ that can win the whole game by savly farming and landing one barrel crit lategame.

Decrit1 votes

Because with a brutalizer he deals almost true damage in most of cases. I hope they get him some power elsewhere however.
