There's no getting past auto-fill because there's no fixing support

  • The game play of support is perfectly fine and highly interactive, fun, and stimulating.

  • The itemization of the role is varied, fun, and is similar to the other roles in terms of meaningful decision making and depth.

  • The feedback from the game for the role is on par with the other roles.

  • The name of the role is perfectly fine.

The role is still highly unpopular. Well, if making a suggestion concerning its game play, its itemization, its game play feedback, or even its damn NAME gets people clowning you, there's literally NOTHING you can do to change that, then. It's a wrap, folks. Lulu is a mechanically deep and rewarding champion, everyone is NOT building Redemption/Locket right now, and we don't use the role to slap our girlfriends and noob friends on it while we play what we want to play. The role's just naturally repels almost the entire player base. Done deal.

Edit: Then you make a thread about how people downvote you whenever you bring up these topics and it gets downvoted. Top notch shit.

I'll play Support over ADC anytime. Fuck that role. The entire role is massively feast or famine and very rarely do you do much to actually influence the game. Its more like ADC is awesome if the rest of your team is winning and complete trash if they're losing. Thats a shame you won lane because the enemy midlaner is fed and just deletes you if you go anywhere even close

Supp may not be the hardest role on the rift, but it's definitely not the easiest. It's definitely not the role you want to have a lv 10 in when you're teaching them the game.

Support is a role with a low skill floor and an unimaginably high ceiling.

"While we play what we want to play"

If I'm teaching someone the game on a beginner level, personally I wouldn't even queue with them at first. I'd just watch what they're doing while they pick whatever role they want to play. Most people just slap their noobs on support. Reason I didn't is because I was ADAMANT about playing Jinx (but I suck at adc so I moved to support when I realized I did better there), but many of my friends that play usually tell me that their friends made them support.

Maybe I misunderstood you. I read this as you saying the role is unfixable because no one should ever want to play it.

It's a challenging role that's immensely rewarding when played well, and I don't think there needs to be much done to fix it aside from teaching ADCs how not to tank turret while you're in fountain.

The point of the thread: The role is apparently unfixable because apparently there's nothing to be fixed. Comment on the game play? "It's fine". The items? "It's fine". So on and so forth. Yet we still have a problem...clear as day. If it's a problem with no solution, then there's no solution.

Hell, even you've just said "Nothing needs to be done except make my adc smart". Yet the role is by and large the least popular role in the entire game by such a huge margin that in order for us to have role selection, we're forced to have auto-fill.

Fair enough. Just a simple misunderstanding.

Riot needs to do more to highlight plays the support makes--total shields applied, lives saved, CC duration applied

If all these carrylords with their autolock yasuo/riven/whatever mentalities started getting recognition for doing something other than damage, we might see people enjoy support a little more.

I say it's impossible. You can't have a conversation about the role's flaws because everyone's just downvote spamming no matter what you say. Even this thread is being downvote spammed.

Dryditch1 votes

I think people are downvoting because they read your post as sarcasm, the same way I did.

If I, in the future, do this thread over in a more earnest way, it's either going to get downvote bombed again or ignored. Trust me.

Then so it will be, and you'll know why.

Just saying, the way you phrased it was pretty confusing.

I would love it if there was a little buff bar(though it is unlikely) for a "# of times x support saved you" kind of like how Phantom Dancer has # of deaths dified, only instead of taking into account damage reduction, it took into account the healing or shielding the support did. Having a little picture of Soraka with a 7 in it would do wonders for making people realizing how often supports save their lives.

Support is where I would want a new player playing. Even when a support d/cs you have a chance of winning. I've won a handful of 4v5s but only because the support was the d/c. Face it, it's the easiest thing in the game and only good in certain scenarios

Dryditch1 votes

If supp's the easiest role in the game, why aren't there more players down in Bronze, Silver, even Gold, who want to just get carried?

You face it. Support is a role that's a hell of a lot harder to get good at than people think, and it's a massively impactful role in a meta where four man bot dives are common practice.

Hawckey1 votes

Nobody plays it in low elo because they want to carry, put a high elo support in any other role and they will do poorly, whereas if you put any other role into support they will at least go neutral

Dryditch1 votes

Put a high elo top laner into mid lane and ask him to play mid against an equal elo mid laner. He's going to go negative, or at least contribute less to his team.

Put a high elo support into top lane or mid lane or jungle, and they'll be mechanically worse because they're not as used to the champions, but their macro sense will likely rival that of any other player at that level.

Supports don't look flashy. They don't make all sorts of crazy plays that get highlighted in montages unless they're hook champions or the players are being intentionally flashy about their plays. That doesn't make them less difficult or make the role less valid.

Sure, you can win without the support, but everyone else on your team needs to be miles ahead of the enemy to overcome the difference. More often than not, your support is the only one on the team with no ability to waveclear. It's likely not his job to waveclear anyway.

the most significant impact of autofill and support are felt in bronze and silver, it's so deep that it reaches MNight Shyamalan levels of hilarity.

at least 50% (perhaps higher) of bronze and silver will be stuck there for multiple seasons and perhaps until the game reaches its finality because they can't play support on even a a basic level on the off-chance of being autofilled, which is on the absolute basic level: to provide wards for vision to ascertain information. instead they build a bunch of random damage items when they don't even know how to use their champs to deal damage and the same can be said for tanking, most of these players rush full tank and are the biggest cowards.
