The tradeoff for his higher damage output is not a skill requirement, but telegraphed positioning. He has to move to a predictable spot to gain Adoration and refresh his cooldown. If you know where he's going to stand, you can aim your skillshots there.

That being said, I don't think you need as much skill as before because of 
and Dark Harvest / Conqueror. He gets too much upfront damage amongst other things, making him wayyyy too overbearing.
