A look at every champions passive- [A] Champions

I decided to go ahead and look at every champions passive [just their passive, not the passives on any of their skills, and not their skills themselves] in an attempt to determine if their passive matches them thematically based on the lore that they have. I'll give a reason for yes or no for each champion. Seeing as there are over 120 champions right now, this will be a lengthy post. Today's post will specifically be the champions whose names start with A

Aatrox : Blood Well-When using an ability that costs Health, Aatrox stores the self-inflicted damage into the Blood Well. Upon taking fatal damage, Aatrox extracts the blood from the well and recovers it as Health over a brief duration. Additionally, Aatrox gains 1% Attack Speed for every 2% blood that is in the well. I do not believe this skill matches Aatrox's theme, or lore, in any way. Aatrox is supposed to be an awe inspiring combatant, someone whose grace and destructive power are unrivaled. In that regard, the attack speed could make sense, but why does he get a resurrection passive? His lore reads in such a way that his passive would be better suited in giving something to allies around him, or debuffing enemies in some way.

Ahri :Gains a charge of Essence Theft whenever a spell hits an enemy (max: 3 charges per spell). Upon reaching 9 charges, Ahri's next spell heals her whenever it hits an enemy. Okay, I get it, she's stealing the essence from people. Does it fit her thematically, Kinda. According to her lore [which has technically been retconned] she feels regret, and no longer steals the essence from people. However, she is capable of doing so. Ahri gets a pass

Akali : Discipline of Force: Akali's basic attacks deal an additional 6% bonus Magic Damage, increasing by 1% for every 6 Ability Power. Discipline of Might: Akali gains 6% Spell Vamp, increasing by 1% for every 6 Bonus Attack Damage. Seeing as Akali's lore is almost non-existant, sure. Okay, your passive fits you I guess.

Alistar: Each time Alistar casts a spell, he tramples nearby units and turrets for a few seconds, dealing damage to units he walks over. Alistar's lore is he got angry after his family was slaughtered, and he killed a lot of Noxians until they finally captures him and he had to compete in the Fleshing. Sure. Cast spells and trample things. Something has to fit you, since "Whenever Alistar takes damage, he converts that damage briefly into bonus ad or ap" would be absolutely busted. Go trample that turret, somehow. It's taller than you

Amumu: Amumu's attacks reduce the target's Magic Resistance for a short duration. Amumu, according to the league of legends website, brings death and ruin to those that he attempts to befriend. Seeing as "Allies around you have reduced Armor and MR" would make an absolutely awful passive, I can let it slide that he lowers the MR of enemies. It would be better if he lowered the MR of enemies damaged by his skills, but beggars can't be choosers.

Anivia: Upon dying, Anivia will revert into an egg. If the egg can survive for six seconds, she is gloriously reborn. 1st off, I like that her passive says she is "gloriously" reborn. 2nd off, I get it, she's a phoenix; they rise from the ashes. 3rd. seriously? That's it? She gets to resurrect after a bit? Aatrox gets that, Zac gets that, and they both do it infinitely more interestingly than she does. Zac's passive even scales with game length, she just gets to pray. Anywho, enough of the tangent. For the simple reason that she is a phoenix, the passive fits thematically.

Annie: After casting 4 spells, Annie's next offensive spell will stun the target for a short duration. Annie, your lore leaves so much to be desired. But thats to be discussed by someone other than me. To answer my questions about passives and lore, no annie, your passive does not fit you. Your lineage says that you have great arcane power stored away inside you, why does this say you get to occasionally stun people? Sure, it helps out your burst patterns in game, but your lore demands more from you. How about "Every 4th spell that deals damage to an enemy is Empowered, dealing extra damage] or something of the sort. Something that betrays that you are more than a carrier of tibbers. Also, why are you setting things on fire?

Ashe: Ashe's attacks slow their target, causing her to deal increased damage to these targets. Ashe's critical strikes deal no bonus damage but apply an empowered slow to the target. Part one of your passive, ashe, fits you perfectly. You fire Ice arrows, they slow and do more damage to slowed things. That makes sense. Why do your crits deal no bonus damage and instead slow more? Gameplay wise, I love playing ashe, she's fun. Lore wise, your passive should do something to continue to hamper slowed targets [ones that are also slowed by Trundle, Lissandra, and possible Sejuani or Anivia. But hey, who am I to judge, I don't understand how True Ice or the Freljord works.]

AurelionSol: Stars orbit Aurelion Sol, dealing magic damage when they hit an enemy. Nope, totally fits. Keep being a starforging dragon.

Azir: Azir can summon the Disc of the Sun from the ruins of allied or enemy turrets. Azir...I promise you everything is not Shurima. In other news, keep resurrecting Shurima. It fits

That's it for today[night], I'll get back to the B's at some point in the future. Feel free to tell me how wrong I am, or if you agree, I'm happy to read any discussion that comes from my 2:30 AM thoughts about this game.

Your reasoning on these is good. For Annie I hope that when they rework her lore, they explain why Annie sets things on fire... Like her bear. Doesn't she love that thing?

edit:

Okay, I get it, she's stealing the essence from people. Does it fit her thematically, Kinda. According to her lore [which has technically been retconned] she feels regret, and no longer steals the essence from people. However, she is capable of doing so. Ahri gets a pass

They actually have a color piece for her that isn't reconned, and it has her stealing the essences of noxian invaders. She feels regret for stealing the essences of innocents, but people trying to hurt those she wants to join? Fair game.
