Is Syndra UP, but feels OP?

Sniperkaj··5 votes·7,090 views

A couple of months ago i started played Syndra, and she almost immediately felt like she was one of my best 3 champions. When i play her in ranked i 4 out of 5 times win lane, and get at least one kill, often several on my lane opponent. I also roam a lot, and usually pick up a lot of kills in early skirmishes/ganks. The lead is easy to obtain - people simply cant lane vs Syndra.

In midgame her damage just seems broken. Its usually quite easy to catch for example ADC + Jungler with a stun, oneshot ADC with Q+W and ulti the jungler for the double kill. Late game the same can be a bit harder, but the still does tons of damage in teamfights.

I really feel Syndras damage is insane - also when others play her. However, i only have 50 % winrate on her! (opposed to 61 % on my main, Xerath) And her global winrate is 47 %, and my impression is a lot of ppl find her on the weak side. But what goes wrong? Is the lategame really bad? Does she steal too many kills from teammates? I honestly cannot figure it out!

IDK man I don't play alot of Syndra or mid, but when I play syndra she feels pretty strong

Syndra has been at a lower win rate since she was really popular in LCS and got nerfed. The nerfs were to her stun (it's a narrower hitbox now), mainly, I believe.

I think her stuns just aren't reliable right now, and her damage isn't easy enough to get onto a squishy. It's great if you're having success, but it sounds like there's some confirmation bias. If your win rate is only 50%, you probably felt like you did everything you could in those games you lost, but Syndra just isn't that capable right now. She can't burst tanks, so if she gets peeled well, she can't do anything, really.

They also reduced her Q damage from ranks 1-4 so she can't out trade anyone at any point in the early game.

basically yasuo braum no mobility sums it up

she was hidden OP for a while, but s6 isn't kind to her, even if she does get thunderlord's out of the deal

junglerboy161 votes

I'm pretty sure she feels strong right now because she's a strong combo mage and can capitalize on Thunderlord's which is also quite strong right now. However, I'd bet that she falls off outside lane phase because super tanks that scale into late game are strong right now, and those are the champs that counter her hardest. Mundo, Malphite, Rammus, Tahm Kench, basically any tanky damage dealer that she can't burst who can then CC her and/or kill her outright makes her life pretty tough outside lane phase because she's an immobile burst mage designed to eliminate a single target in one smooth combo, not someone designed to kite these beefy thugs.

That's why mages like Viktor Anivia Lissandra are all doing pretty well right now: they don't have to burst their target 100-0 to be effective, and they can more importantly kite because of their CC, range, or mobility.

TL;DR: Syndra is strong in the lane phase because of Thunderlord's, but the meta doesn't favor her play style atm so her statistics are poor.

Ironically the only time meta was in her favour was with LeBlanc being FotM.

The moment she showed in LCS. BAM! Nerfed 3 times in a row to 40% winrate.

junglerboy161 votes

The thing is, Syndra can really screw LB hard because she can stun her out of her dash animation (interrupting her burst combo) and then immediately blow her up with her own, arguably more reliable burst.

The reason these giant tanky thugs that are in meta right now give her trouble is that she can neither burst them or survive their attacks on her. If she can do one or the other reasonably well, she at least has a fighting chance of coming out on top.

I could care less, they nerfed Tenacity, so with 40% CDR Syndra can keep nearly everybody at bay.

As for LeBlanc, I know the matchup like the back of my hand. It's just ironic that she was the strongest when one of the assassins was in nigh-every game for like half a season.

Syndra is not my main, but every once in a while I'll pick her to play in mid, I've found that roaming can be a bit difficult for syndra, getting caught midway will get you killed and if you're behind in farm or kills your damage will be subpar.

The more popular picks like Anivia or the bunch of mid assassins simply out damage her by quite a lot and with much simpler mechanics, of course her ult does a ton of damage but setting it up can be a bit difficult at times.

With syndra you need dmg right away, if you happen to be behind all you can do is hope for clutch stuns and pray not to get jumped on.

idk but I got a super noob pentakill with her on ARAM.

I never really understood how people called her weak. Her level 6 is just ridiculous and always has been.

Like any burst mage. Xerath has insane level 6 power too if you're really good at him.

Syndra presses r, big difference.

If you think Syndra can kill you with only R in level 6, that's fine.

Syndra ult is only about damage, let it to be good.

I think you are misunderstanding me. I'm simply saying she isn't weak and never really has been.

She is weak compare to top mid champions, you can't deny it. I main Syndra and sometimes I feel so useless, but in generally, if you main her, you can carry a lot games.

maybe you are just a noob (no offence) because i main Syndra and i never got so much kills and win with a champion until i played with her but i know that her damage against any tank is very bad and that what need to be changed with her

I'm d3, have %70 winrate with Syndra, 9-3 KD. You're gold 4, have %0 winrate and 0-6.5 KD with Syndra (no offense). I don't know which one is better at Syndra.

I'm playing Syndra since her release, don't teach me her. :)

junglerboy162 votes

Except when you realize that at 6 just using her ult in her combo without a lot of setup only deals 560 (+230% AP) and a properly set up combo deals 830 (+290% AP).

Just "Pressing R" will leave you screwed and missing between 1/4 and 1/3 of your burst damage depending on your AP.

She may have a strong level 6, but she still requires a lot of skill (more than several other burst mages) to pull it off.

Until they fix her buggy ass ultimate I am going to hate playing her. This has been forever that it's happened. You ult them and all of your spheres are on the ground and your character proceeds to jerk when you move.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

yeah she can 100-0 just with her ult. not to mention aoe cc. and she hard counters a lot of mid laners.

Vargrjalmer1 votes

I know you're trolling but here

Unleashed Power Cost: 100 Mana Range: 675

Syndra bombards an enemy Champion with all of her Dark Spheres.

Draws upon Syndra's full cataclysmic power, harnessing Dark Spheres to deal magic damage to target enemy Champion. Unleashed Power manipulates the three Dark Spheres orbiting Syndra, in addition to up to 4 Dark Spheres previously created. Damage per sphere: 90/135/180 (+20% Ability Power). Minimum total damage: 270/405/540 (+60% Ability Power).

So, you say just her ult, well lets assume that she's lvl 6 ulting you, because thats the first time you'll encounter it, which means it's the first time you get to feed her. It fires only 3 dark sphere's on its own, at rank one taht is 270 damage, you'd have to be below a quarter health. now if she were to drop a q, drop another q, w the first one and hold, throw another q, and then throw the q at you and e for stun, just her ult alone (at lvl 6) still only deals like 560 damage BEFORE base mr is taken into account. (assuming unscaled because nobody backs before 6 unless they were forced out of lane.) if syndra has 4 balls on the ground and you walked up to her, its your own fault bro. if she's ulting you for full hp with an ability that only does 60% of her ap then you fed harder than humanly possible.

also Yasuo requires no setup, he only has to land one of the 3000 hurricanes you get to throw for free, fail to dodge it ONCE, and you die. say nothing about poke, he has a windwall and a free shield and you arent relying on breaking that shield if you are mana dependent in the slightest, if you've made him windwall AND taken his shield out, that costed you 2 spells worth of mana, early game that is 100-150 mana on some champs, so by the time he's really vulnerable, you can only afford 2 more spells early game

Syndra is borderline viable... but unfortunately, the best options are the top tiers (Lux/Morgana/Zed/Talon/Brand/etc.)... she is complete garbage compared to the strong characters.

Handy Sandy 1 votes

am here from the future. She was OP and got nerfed leaving her with tons of bugs, you and other syndra players were right all along!

Ahri Baka1 votes

She is strong but her q and w range are too short and you can't do much without having all enemies stunned
