I think after about 5 swings-and-misses on Class updates, Riot is pretty much done with that. They'll focus more on small-scale updates to champs that require it with the occasional larger update here or there. But I think we have seen the last of the major class updates, thank God.
Mage Update: Basically a Failure.
Malzahar's kit was changed so that it was impossible to balance properly. At first it was horrendously strong, then was nerfed to the point where he was a barely viable support. Now he's been slightly buffed and is in the top 10 winrates again. Vel was perfectly balanced, then they screwed with him, then mostly reverted it later. Brand turned out okay, Vlad was gutted, then buffed recently and is now viable in a niche scenario.
Ryze. Need I say more? Multiple attempts to get this champion right and they have all fallen flat. Just revert Ryze to his original state and move on. He's currently sitting at the lowest win rate among ALL champions at 37%. At what point will Riot address this?
Juggernaut Update: Failure.
Skarner was actually good for a weak, then he was returned to the scrap heap. Darius is still ridiculous against many melee champs, but utter garbage in some matchups. Morde was destroyed and Garen is still just Garen; kinda viable in lower Elos, Not-at-all viable in higher Elo.
Marksman Update: Failure.
Anytime you have to completely revert one of the champions you updated, you have to call it a complete crash-and-burn. Cait is far too safe, MF is basically an ult-bot who could, at one point, chunk almost half your health with a single Q, Corki is terrible---one of hte lowest winrate among all adcs virtually since the update, Kalista (who wasn't really touched duruing the update but has received numerous nerfs) is useless, Lucian is the Zed of bot lane and can essentially burst you with one or two items easily.
Assassin Update: Failure.
Making assassins have "delayed burst" was probably the worst idea that the development/balance team has ever instituted. In a game where practically all damage is too high across the board, why would you nerf or shift the ability to do damage from the one class that's supposed to do it the best? The biggest complaint people have about assassins is that they are too feast or famine, but they are, above all others, supposed to be that way.
Akali still does Akali things, I didn't understand her update though. It seemed like her update was almost unnecessary. If you wanted to tune down her damage, you really didn't. Giving her a sustain gimmick in lane was not really needed----she is supposed to have a subpar laning phase (or at least until level 6). The mini-teleport on her and removing the targeted nature of it was silly as well.
Fizz is legitimately broken, he has far too many things going for him. High damage which is easy to apply, burst, mobility and a mitigation tool that is on a 5.5 second cooldown at maximum CDR. If the assassin update was designed to give "delayed burst" it is clear that Fizz didn't receive that memo. I'm actually okay with Fizz being as he is provided that you remove his incredibly short cooldown on his E. Once Fizz commits to a fight he needs to see it through, period. As it is right now he doesn't have to and even if you outplay him or dodge his ult (which is nearly impossible to do because he practically can't miss it) then he can just escape with his troll-poll.
Katarina has the 16th lowest win rate now at 46% and is objectively terrible. As someone that loved to play Kat and even dedicated many hours to learning the new Kat, I feel that it's just a poor immitation of the old champion. Her damage is just too delayed and, again, if other classes did appropriate amounts of damage then maybe Kat would have a chance, but since everyone hits like a truck in League these days it is almost impossible for Kat to outtrade people. An assassin should be able to kill an adc or squishy melee, Kat can only do this if she's far ahead and that shouldn't have to be the case.
LeBlanc is just a sad shadow of her former glory. Delayed burst that isn't even that bursty anymore. I get that old LeBlanc wasn't the healthiest, but her winrate was always in the mid 40% range, so I didn't ever think that she was terribly overpowered. She was always a win-lane, lose game type of champ.
Talon is just a plate of hot garbage these days. In the right matchup he can still be viable, but giving him a gimmicky wall-jump wasn't exactly what he needed. He just doesn't do enough damage in a short period of time. He's like a weak fighter at this point.
Tank Update: Biggest Failure of them all.
With all of the balance issues this game has, why waste time on champions that didn't need an update?
