I like this 'Avatar' Karma, I can only imagine how cool her new stories will be.
However, I do sincerely hope to God that this:** "she rarely uses her magic for destruction, as it always comes at a considerable cost—both to her, and to the land she holds most dear" **- isn't foreshadowing her 2018 rework locking her into support. That would age me 50 years over night.

I don't really like this, it doesn't seem realistic to me.
In another franchise, the Wakfu one, there is one enemy blessed with this same power of memories after death (Qilby), and he actually got insane, because this is a curse, not a blessing. You can't live for eons in the same place, with nothing new, or unknown anymore, and keep being sane, as boredom, and even resentment with those around you (because they can't understand your pain), start accumulating inside you, feelings that death at an old age can't really erase, you just keep remembering every wound, both physical and psychological, without never forgetting anything, in an stagnant world, always praying to see anything change, anything that can give you some distraction from those bad thoughts.
Its just my oppinion of course, but I feel that the realistic reaction would be Quilby's instead of Karma's
Personally, I don't like the lore change.
The one thing that has stayed consistent through her rework and her changes is that she is someone who isn't afraid to fight back if she has to.
She is someone who isn't war crazy but she also isn't someone who sits down and does nothing and hopes for peace.
She fights for peace, politically and physically if she has to. That's what Karma has always been about.
I am cool with her new lore update and to be honest I really like it but I also, just like you, was a bit worried when I read the part where she doesn't like to use her magic for destruction/offence.
I read in the karmamains sub-reddit that it could actually mean that you will have to spend HP to cast offensive magic which is interesting and may bring back the concept of her old passive where she lost one thing(her hp) but gained something else instead.
Sadly, unless this is a placeholder for a future lore update to Karma, I do think that blurb probably indicates that they want to make her even more of a passive/defensive champion. Riot usually likes to have a champion's gameplay, personality, and theme be 1:1. It's why Vayne is now even more bloodthirsty and crazy than ever before (I mean just look at her playerbase) and Galio is a jolly, head-strong brawler (his kit is now much more offensive).
