Bronze vs Diamond

Hardstuck G4··20 votes·3,227 views

So, in a time not that long ago, I used to play in Nightly RP tourneys. In those tourney's, the teams were always a Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum/Diamond vs Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum/Diamond. I was the Bronze on one of those teams, and more often than not, I did end up as ADC vs [Surprise] a Diamond. This did happen often, but it wasn't quite the stompfest you'd expect. Both supports were typically Silver/Golds, so, their skill level was fairly equal. The ADC's were different, but not that much. More often than not, I would WIN the lane, with a higher K/D, higher CS, and overall just being the better player. During these tourneys, I realized that the difference between Bronzes and Diamonds was Mid/Late game play. While I would dominate a lane and overall have an exceptional game, I would be unable to handle the way that the enemy ADC would rotate, and I would end up being down by 50-100 CS at the end of the game, while being up 25-50 CS at the end of lane. Tl;dr: If you're a Bronze/Silver player, you (I'm included in this, as I make this mistake) need to focus more on CS'ing and making great map play during the Mid/Late game, rather than going dukes up all the time and trying to force fights.

Edits: 1. I'm not saying that Bronzes are on the level of Diamonds, I'm saying that low elo has difficulty doing anything past the lane phase because they are constantly out thought and out maneuvered 2. I have an example. While it was a win, I still did struggle coming out of lane phase because I was making key mistakes that led to some fairly serious deaths that I had to deal with. http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1985592105/42084383?tab=overview The Trist and Ekko are both low diamond.

Everytime I try to cs my team rages at me for not "teamfighting". Meanwhile, I'll add that their version of teamfighting is chasing the tank into the unwarded jungle only to get ambushed.

its true...

this happens to me too an im tristana in mid game... (her weak point) best thing for her to do in mid game is cs to late.... then come back like a truck...

DeynaTaggerung1 votes

Well that's not entirely accurate. When your team is grouping in the mid-late game you need to go join them. Even a poor call can be saved if you all work together on it. There is nothing more frustrating than a team that can't come together. The real trick is learning when it's ok to go CS and when your team needs you so that juicy wave in bot is just gonna have to wait. If your team is having vision problems then upgrade your trinket and keep up 3 wards for them, you want them to succeed.

For example, are the junglers fighting in the jungle nearby? Throw AOE at the wave and run over to help, working together is crucial for a team and without that cohesion you'll lose for sure.

errrr... diamonds will dominate lanes when playing on their mains too, I don't know what gave you the impression bronzes are anywhere near diamond level laners. this point is mitigated a bit by the fact that the bot lane is a duo lane and it's quite often the supports who decide the tempo of the lane before first and sometimes second backs, so if your support makes a play, you just have to follow up, just how if the diamond's support makes a move they can follow up.

there are minor intricacies they will take in to account though. they'll acknowledge level and item power spikes better and they'll pick up on ability maxes and try to avoid the higher leveled abilities of their opponents (e.g. ahri goes Q > E > Q skill order in lane which gives her a stronger level 3 than if she just picked up W which does like negative damage at this point in the game) and they'll poke you with autos or abilities while you cs which a bronzie would either just suck up and take or see it as an invitation for a trade and just try to hit back and get shit on.

buty es, mid and late game rotations are a major difference between lower and higher elo. bronzies post-20 will just play aram until 50 minutes while golds and upwards will understand the significance of objectives and objective prioritisation and actually exploit and consolidate their advantages. the effectiveness of how they do this obviously goes up the higher you climb.

Hardstuck G46 votes

I never said Bronzes are near Diamond level laners. I was saying that Bronzes don't realize what to do PAST lanes, even if they do well in lanes.

Actually, if you can beat your lane opponent and he has that much of a difference in rank, then you don't play at bronze level. By the way you talked in your post, you seem to be roughly at the level of high gold at least. Bronze level players don't notice what they are doing wrong, nor do they put thought into like you did. And actually, the main difference between Bronze and Diamond is that a team of Diamonds have much more teamwork and control. They have vision over choke points, discuss options and strategies with their teammates, they have the knowledge and skill to predict who is going to do what before the team fight even begins, and they know what they should do when their lane opponent rotates or ganks another lane.

The last point is a big deal cause that could either put you behind, or put you in a massive lead over the entirety of the enemy team. One trick to determine whether you should rotate and assist your teammate rather than taking the tower is to think, "How quickly can I take the tower." If your answer is greater than 15 seconds, either rotate to the other lane to assist, or stay in your lane and continue farming to prevent your falling behind. If you CAN take the tower in less than 15 seconds, DO IT. That is global gold for your team and a massive objective that is no longer a concern for the rest of the game.

Regardless, it is ALWAYS best to let a teammate die for a turret, even you. If you are gonna take the tower, but die doing it, it was VERY worth the death and should be done.

He probably does play at gold level. Unfortunately placements rank you on wins and not much on anything else.

I bet most people that are stuck in bronze have the same problem even though they play well they can't carry a whole team, honestly if people just stopped whining about stupid stuff and quit raging league would be a much better game the ranked system could possibly be made better but it is fairly stable now and I doubt that is riots main concern atm even though I wish it was their number 1 -_-

Biffolo1 votes

It's pretty fine the way it is. The good players will rise to the top, the bad ones will sink.

HalcyonDweller3 votes

Yes, but plenty of medium skill players get stuck with the bad players because of getting dragged down (I'm not talking about me, I don't play ranked).

Biffolo3 votes

Elo hell isn't an actual thing if that is what you are getting at. If you are any reasonable skill above your current elo you will climb out after enough games. A player who deserves gold will always get gold if they put in the games for it. If they play 5 games and stop, then they won't. It's meant to be a time investment, and people get too impatient with it.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

I've seen a lot of people upset about their promotionals being ruined by one toxic or extremely bad teammate.

I'm not saying it is as polarized as something like, "Plat players are stuck in bronze because of feeder teammates."

It is more like, "Players who have risen up and deserve to achieve next rank from their current one can have bad players negatively impact their odds."

Biffolo2 votes

And then you just play another game and it doesn't matter anymore. Problem solved.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Way to patronize dude :P

I'm not going to waste time arguing against someone who uses sweeping generalizations to devalue others' ideas.

Biffolo1 votes

In this case, the sweeping generalizations have been proven to work and be correct, so there isn't much more to that.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Not at all, you ignored my argument and addressed something different, pretending that that was what I was arguing about.

My point was that players can be tilted by toxic teammates, thus negatively affecting them beyond even just one game. Also that toxic players can ruin a player's promitional's and demoralize them from playing more.

Biffolo1 votes

That's the players fault for letting themselves tilt.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

That doesn't make them a bad player, they still have the technical skill. They still deserve to play at a higher level, the only reason that player doesn't get promoted in that situation is their teammates' behavior.

And lets be honest here, toxicity is not a welcome behavior in this game. Nobody likes it. It shouldn't even happen in the first place. Innocent players shouldn't have to pay the price for someone else being a dick.

Biffolo1 votes

But it really does, this game is so much mental skill, and the fortitude to not give up the instant things go bad is really important.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Alright, well said. I concede the debate.

Hardstuck G41 votes

Actually, I tilt without realizing. If I'm a kill behind, I try to play like I'm 2 kills ahead. I don't even realize I'm tilting until it's too late. My own fault, yeah, but most players don't actually know that they're tilting

Biffolo1 votes

It's also a skill for one to realize their own mistakes.

Hardstuck G41 votes

Yeah, I'll sometimes look at and realize what I did wrong, but mostly I just tell myself I can do better and try to successfully make plays, and usually tilt even harder. I don't play by logic, or anything like that. I'm a player of instinct. If I see a play, I go for it, no matter how far behind I am.

SymbolicFear2 votes

Spitting out ranked games one after another isn't how everyone goes about it. Some people will put all their effort and try very hard in two games, then wind down with friends in a normal game.

Biffolo1 votes

Then they aren't playing enough to climb. There is a reason all the good players put out hundreds upon hundreds of games a year. It's an important part of the climb.

Incorrect, I dont have a 73% win rate on blitzcrank over 29 games currently because I get carried.

your a good Blitz, nice win rate there.. but may i ask what rank you are?

Currently gold 2 was 1 LP away from promos before a small loss streak. I started playing blitzcrank in gold 5. And alternated between blitz, Alistair and Caitlyn.

The key to carrying as support is calculated aggression. As a support I always try to keep my adc alive through pressure, sometimes I take a bit more damage than I should but in exchange I get some more pressure. However I look for flash pulverize and headbutt into tower, obstacle, or kill opportunity. Or look for a minion about to die and as it dies hook enemy adc. Move around constantly! Jostle for position with the enemy laners look for another angle of attack. As Albert Einstein said "not changing anything and expecting a different result is the definition of crazy".

TroyTheUnconquer1 votes

Haha, i do similar things with blitz, i usually get summoner 3 and summoner 12 though, i'll have to try flash next game i get. Thanks for the tips, i always appreciate hearing from a good support main :)

Not taking flash means you have to rely on your game knowledge, positioning, map awereness and skill to not get caught and no offense but until mid plat~ish you wont have any of those skills to any real capacity.

You NEVER leave your adc unless they just went back and you still have over half mana and full health and can roam mid.

TroyTheUnconquer1 votes

Okay, so i have a question... what would i do if my adc left me to go help top lane and i can either stay bot and stop our tower from getting taken, or go top with my adc?

Well, first off the adc is an idiot because he's missing cs for pretty much no reason. In that situation you would defend the tower as best you can, it is however important to know when the enemy can dive you and have wards out to spot their jungler coming in to 3v1 dive you, otherwise you wouldnt stay at the tower unless it was tier 2. If you dont know how to tell when it's time to leave a tower you will likely just give them free gold on top of the tower gold.

Ahhhh, okay that makes sense, thanks for the tips :)

number 1 it needs to be their number 1 to 1000 concern to fix match making seeing how its completely broken and flawed , i just read another post from riot saying balance play is only tiered toward platinum and higher, that is bs so what about bronze silver gold , i never thought id miss the season 1 and 2 days of elo because this system is terrible, especially when your in silver 1 promos and lose 20 games straight only to be demoted to bronze because your constantly matched with trolls noobs bronze 5 people who literally just started to play or the famous 2 afks, not 1 but 2.

BluePolarizer1 votes

if the game was balanced for bronze, it cannot possibly be balanced for platinum.

bactowal11 votes

the game is not balanced for bronze, and it is balanced for plat

SymbolicFear1 votes

True, which is a shame, as this game is nigh impossible to solo carry on nowadays if your team refuses to listen to your calls and such. I don't find it fair for player's to be judged on their rank and not on the level of play. Yes, this is a team game, but constantly getting poor team mates can and will hold you back, which shouldn't be the case. Same with players who get carried into higher ranks, they will do terribly, while the rest of the team does well and they will rank you up.

Stillname3 votes

Keep in mind that winning lane in the bot lane is more the support than the adc. Most of the time the adc just last hits until the support sets something up. And more recently the bot lane is won by who teleports there at a better time.

Fairtrade Milk2 votes

The ADC rise and fall with his support. Another big problem is, that a ADC is oneshot for any fed mid or top-laner.

ADC is only fun in Team Ranked. -.-

Handin Out Naps2 votes

This is doubtful, Don't mean to be rude but someone who can't get out of silver in 300 games probably isn't ready to climb yet.

Hardstuck G41 votes

Erm. A very large portion of those were in Bronze. Then I stopped playing Ranked, practiced in norms, came back, and went on a straight tear. Maybe dropping three games from B2 to S4

Don't generalise. Being overall horrible doesn't mean that you're overall horrible because you refuse to realise you are. I, for example, know perfectly my problems. I just don't think I can ever solve IRL more than 20% of them.

SymbolicFear1 votes

Being bad and the game and realizing what makes you a bad player instantly makes you go from being bad, to being decent. There is such a massive difference between players who think they just can't do anything better, and the players who will point out what they could have done differently. Its the first step to getting much better.

Grashnim6 votes

Team fight positioning is clutch late game as an ADC. Use your meat shields wisely.

Freezman3 votes

I realized that the difference between Bronzes and Diamonds was Mid/Late game play

As a support main (D3) I can tell you that in the 2v2 you are extremely reliant on your partner. If the diamond adc is not confident in his support (because they are silver or gold) then they will just cs and play for mid or late game team fights where he can be less reliant on his support.

On top of that the diamond player might not even be an adc player and he filled because he/she thinks that giving the lower rated players their roles means they won't feed and the diamond player is confident in their ability to play well on a role they usually don't play.

A Bronze/silver/gold main is NOWHERE close to a diamond main of the same role in every single aspect.

Hardstuck G42 votes

There seems to be so many people saying this. I'm not saying that Bronzes/Silvers/Golds are anywhere near the same level as their opponent. I'm saying that the lower bracket of players have a problem in Mid/Late game, even if they play well in lane.

Halcyn2 votes

I'm only plat 1 but I can tell you now the difference between a diamond and a bronze is everything. Absolutely everything. I find it hard to believe a bronze beat a diamond and even if you did you probably got a bunch of ganks or he got cheesed or got cocky. Don't downsize the difference. It's absolutely massive. everything from moving to mechanics diamonds to better x100. And even then diamonds are trash to masters and challengers

KatCraft2 votes

Mind you if you play adc with a support at a much lower level than you're used to, you can fck yourself over. You can make a play or a move expecting the support to know what to do, but fails and you end up dying.

That and the support is the play maker in bot lane, it's easier for a diamond support to stomp a lane than it is for an adc.
