You know what made Rylais/Mallet feel so much more frustrating to play against?

The countless nerfs to item 3009

The item was built a ton earlier this season and gave people a way to itemize against heavy slows.

Now with both its passive, cost and MS having been nerfed the item went back into the trash can.

I suggest making the item a viable choice again by somewhat changing the passive and/or just flat out buffing it.

I never saw a problem with swifties due to you giving up other useful stats by choosing them over tabi, mercs or an offensive choice like sorcerers.

Now boots are just as stale as before with nobody really building according to the situation except maybe tanks having to choose between armor or MR.

So, how about we make them a solid option again and make counter building rylais, mallet or simply teams with a lot of slows a possibility?

This is still better than swifties earlier in the season where they were a 100% must buy on every champ in the game. At least now if you look down a team's boots you see something like Tabi/Tabi/Sorcs/Zerks/Sorcs rather than Swiftness/Swiftness/Swiftness/Swiftness/Swiftness.

Mages never brough swiftness...if they were imobile they will just but item 3285. Same with ADC and item 3006. Junglers and Support yeah item 3009 was pretty much a must buy, you could go item 3117 or item 3047 /item 3111 under certain circumstances but if you were not sure you woudl go for swiftness. Top people usually would go for item 3111 since they have other ways to gain extra movement speed if needed but not many ways to get the tenacity then need.

Jhin sivir graves, just some of the ADC that would take swifties. It was either you get swifties, or you get outrun by everyone.

what are these other ways to gain movement speed you speak off not that one phage passive that only works if you are hitting something while adcs running around with multiple zeal items and mages with multiple aether wisp items. you cant be compareing conditionally temporary speed on people with no range to permanent speed

item 3071/item 3078 and item 3742 . Almost all top run one or both of these items that would make up for the lack of swiftness. More tanky ones would run item 3512 but that is less common on top.

item 3046 item 3094 item 3085 item 3087 item 3142 Pretty much all ADC will run at least one of these but most likely 2 of them. The movement speed woudl stack and compensate for the lack of swiftness.

LordGeovanni1 votes

the fact that you have to run those items rather than more effective ones just to be able to do something is exactly what i mean while movement speed on zeal and wisp items arent there picked up for the movement speed its just a pleasant extra that people with the range or mobility to enjoy it can get.

This really isn't accurate at all. Mages absolutely were buying Swiftness Boots at the start of this season and Luden's Echo has not been en vogue at any point so far in 2016. Mages who wanted to run fast got Swiftness and that was most mages at the start of the season. You're incorrect about ADCs too - there was legitimately a point this season where they bought both Swiftness Boots and Boots of Lucidity before they ever bought the attack speed boots, and it took buffs to said boots and nerfs to the others to fix that.

I disagree with buffing swifites. It was not fun to play against as a mage when Udyr starts barreling his way towards you ignoring any slows cause "I'm Udyr!"

Jeddy0171 votes

Oh yeah that's right, Udyr was abusing every movespeed item in the game & running around like Sonic at the time. Ah good times, good times, thank fucking Urgod it's gone.

It Hertz When IP2 votes

Sounds more like a problem with Udyr's outdated-as-fuck kit and less a problem with Swifties.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

Let's take a look at everyone who abused it. Darius Shyvana Hecarim Irelia Skarner Volibear Udyr Singed. People who love running into your face and stabbing you to death with MS speed buffs, with an exception or two.

swiftie are just about right don't make any change to them thanks

item 3047 is situational af item 3111 doesn't matter anymore with all those cc, and reducing a stun by 30% won't make you win anything in this meta

bruisers have no options but item 3009 and riot decided to fixe this by nerfing them.

LordGeovanni1 votes

pre season 6 i used to use item 3047 as default top and support my 2 main roles and jungle if i had to play it because i could rely on item 3065 now i pretty much have to take item 3111 or be blown up by enemies out of my range its was like that from mage changes last year but back then i could still split push with out everyone jumping me and even if they did have a chance to escape it if they played badly that chance is pretty much gone now with buffs to mage items (well some were nerfed but rylias was made staple on everyone with shit ton of hp with top ap and at the same time magic resist was nerfed across the board {except mage items} along with health) then same with armor) ninja tabis were okay be cause most champions were still auto attack based or spell based though i dont know if ninja tabis reduces on hit effects from auto attack which should happen from how its worded now we got abunch of gimicky champions because riot wants new dynamics to the game with every champion so you cant account for champions that dont fit into generalised defense item

MagikarpIsBoss2 votes

All they should do is buff the slow resistance passive. I dont want everyone building this shit all the time like last year, I just want them to be useful as a niche item versing some one with heavy (and super deadly) slows or people who build item 3022 or item 3116.

Now that im re-reading this, I realized that since every champion basically builds these fucking items it isnt niche, but whatever.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

when i first started playing the game i was an idiot. and always bought those boots. because they made you the fastest. apparently i was the genius.. such a satisfying item to build. not anymore. quite frankly 10 more ms isn't worth it. the stats from other boots are much better and few items give you ms so it makes up for that 10.

LordGeovanni1 votes

is mallet even noticeable flash once if you get in a bad situation if you happen not to have a dash movement speed buff blink or any cc thats not on an ultimate and be done with it

Sir Fuzzi1 votes

Most characters who enjoy synergy with Mallet not only have ranged slows or harder CC, but most of them have a fair chance to have either Trinity Force or Phage on tap which is extra MS anyway. Flashing out of that will probably result in a death-- and your flash down.

Flashing out of Rylai's probably means you're flashing from way out of your own range, to further away, over what was probably a Q, W or E-- god forbid their jungle takes that opportunity to just finish what they started.

They're very noticeable.

Mandang01 votes

They should just change tenacity to affect the intensity of slows rather than the duration, so they don't have to waste an item slot on a boot that only counters slows.

HateDaddy1 votes

Idk man, swifties have a weird niche and the main reason why most people would buy them is you got them for dirt cheap. You'd get tier two boots with highest combat ms providing boots in the game for 800g. It's hard to pass that up, especially in early stages of the games. And it's hard to imagine riot will reduce its cost back to that and I suspect they won't really have a noticeably good niche because of that.

Malicious Metal1 votes

You're right. Besides, they're actually looking at the root of the problem and planning to change rylais.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

As someone who still buys the nerfed Boots of Swiftness pretty much every time I jungle, I can confirm that Rylai's isn't a problem.

It's just players over reacting to nerfs. Swiftness is still miles better than Treads no matter the enemy comp.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

I don't know why they made it only marginally better speed than other boots with no discernable upsides. the only time I buy it anymore is if I need to do some combat kiting and don't want to be slowed by losing my mobi speed.

Dracocrash1 votes

boots of swiftness IS viable. If the enemy is a slow stacking team comp just get it.

Spoofghoul1 votes

maybe they should lower the duration of slows by 25%

and make slows on you 50% weaker

then id have a reason to buy them

Remlap12231 votes

Slow immunity, got it.

LordGeovanni1 votes

true but rylias has ap with the top ap items lots of hp and a slow on top of it the fact that its used predominantly on ranged champions (now it was used on tanks before but apparently that wasnt what riot wanted they wanted ranged carries who have shit ton of damage to also kite easier while giving them top ap item with movement speed around the same time)

HaloDragonX1 votes

Dude, this is like the 4th post. We get it, but guess what, Swiftness meta sucked. How about, NERF THE SLOWS, buff morde's base MS by 10.
