There's no reason to play Nautilus...

When every other tank has similar amounts of cc with more damage or durability.

He's been CC creeped out of the meta.

Wait, other tanks have more CC than the guy with a Stun, a Snare, a Slow, and an AoE Knock up/stun combo? Who is the new CC god now?

AwesomeGuyDj1 votes

Maokai, slow, knockback, root, another slow, a teamwide root. Galio, teamwide knockup, taunt, repeatable singe target knockup (though he's shit now)

All but the ult-knockup are singletarget and on a rather high cd.

Gallio has a lowish cd 2sec aoe taunt, a kockup that in rare cases also can hit multiple targets and a huge aoe knock-up on ult, and with iceborn you also get frequent slows. ** Mao has a spamable aoe knockback+slow, a low cd point n click root, a aoe slow mine and a massive aoe root**

Seju has a knockup, a slow, a stun, another stun and potential aoe-slow

Gragas has a slow, a kockup+stun(both on aoe and low cd) and massive aoe-kockback

Zac has a spamable slow+displace, longranged aoe knockup and the kidnap ult

Naut still has a strong singletarget lockdown, but his overall teamfight cc is at best equal to other tanks as he got high downtimes and a lack of aoe and reliabillity.

As I'm extremely bored at work and need to take my mind out of how goddamn hungry I am, I put the data on a spread sheet.

Between Gragas Galio Zac Sejuani Maokai Nautilus :

Maokai is the one who can use hard CC with the most frequency, although, in the right situations, Naut can hard CC more people with a bigger frequency than him;

Maokai and Zac both compete for the most healing, with Maokai usually ending up on top in most teamfight situations (exception being an an extremely AA reliant Enemy Team, in which Zac should win);

For bursts of up to 3 seconds, Sejuani is the tankier by having all her resistances doubled with an extra 100 points in each, making her the hardest one to burst down;

Naut's shield makes him the second hardest champion to burst down, with the advantage of the enemy team not being able to bait his W the same way they can with Sej's passive;

Gragas constant damage reduction (can be permanently up with max CDR) makes him tankier than anyone else, appart from Maokai;

Sejuani potentially deals the most damage and out CCs Maokai and Naut in the right circustances (lots of melee allies);

Overall, Nautilus and Maokai have similar amounts of hard CC, with Naut having one extra source of AoE slow:

  • Every 5 seconds, Maokai can Knock Up someone; Naut can Snare someone with each auto with a 6 seconds CD for the same target

  • Every 9 seconds, Maokai can root someone; Every 10 seconds, Naut can pull/stun someone

  • Both their ults can hard CC multiple people and require oposite strategies to avoid; Naut's ult CC is stronger, as Knock Ups can't be cleansed, but Maokai's CC can potentially last much longer

Overall, I think Naut's biggest problem right now is that his shield is locked behind a stupidly long CD, when other tank's survivability skills are avaible with a much higher frequency - appart from Sej who's unlikely to regain her passive during a team fight without retreating.

For bursts of up to 3 seconds, Sejuani is the tankier by having all her resistances doubled with an extra 100 points in each, making her the hardest one to burst down;

If she doesn't get a good flank, chances are high that some random poke/aoe already popped it befor she enters the fight. And even if she gets full value of it, i'm not really sure if it gives more survivability than Gallios %reduction, which can easily reach +50% And mao also has good anti burst as his W allows to dodge alot of shit.

Every 9 seconds, Maokai can root someone; Every 10 seconds, Naut can pull/stun someone

The big difference between them is that nauts Q gets bodyblocked while maos W is point n click, which means mao can ge3t his cc on the valuable targets more reliably in teamfights, while naut due to the range has better catch potential.

Every 5 seconds, Maokai can Knock Up someone; Naut can Snare someone with each auto with a 6 seconds CD for the same target

The difference is that mao's Q is aoe and scales with cdr, so ususally 3sec cd, while nauts is tied to his AAs while he has the most pathetic AS in the entier game and doesn't scale off cdr. In theory, naut can snare 5 people every 6 sec, but in any real scenario, he even has trouble snareing one target on CD cause of his absurdly slow AAs and low mobillity.

Imo naut's issue really is that by now, his CC is not really standing out from the crowed. Yes, it's still top end off tanks, but he's no longer the undisputed king of CC, Mao matches and for most teamfight scenarios even beats him and the others are not far of anymore, while he doesn't exactly offer much else as his damage is rather on the low end and his tankiness is about similar to the rest at abest. The tank rework just turned all the tanks into generic cc-bots, just that they kept their old damage, so now Nauti is in a bad spot as others now do his job while offereing more to it. Imo they need to revisit or just rewert the tank reworks, they just killed deversity by turning all tanks into the same generic style. Nauti could easily get viable again by buffing some of his numbers, but he still would not be much different from the rest...

To be fair, not every Tank has point-and-click inescapable knockup.

Sire Hippington1 votes

that is very delayed and allow the target to get into a rather save position befor getting hit...

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

instead they have point and click instant inescapable knockups Gragas

Oh god

Nautilus is now the generic tank.

Remember the good old days when Nautilus was known as the “King of CC“? I still like to play him tho

I only like him in one instance. When enemy team picks Vayne and you NEED a reliably point and click CC for your team to do anything about her.

Sire Hippington1 votes

Maokai can do that frequently with W rather than relying on a huge ult cd...

I still like naughty naut and he's fun.

He used to be my main jungler since way back in season 3, but now with all the nerfs he got over the few last seasons for being played support, then top lane, he feels so underwhelming.

They should increase the damage of his E on monsters to compensate for all the damage/mana nerfs it got.

A boost on W at early ranks would also be nice.

:'( I miss him so much, but whenever I hover him I'm like "I could just pick this other Champion..."

it hadn't dawned on me that he had actually been CC creeped out, feelsbadman.
