Rek'Sai being called female without any feminine traits BUGS ME

People asked for a "female monster" that wasn't pandering to thirsty teenage boys. Result: Riot makes some generic void creature and says, "Oh btw it's a female."

lol really?

I think you need to think about what people mean when they say "female monster", like what do they REALLY want?

What are female creatures known to do? They do disgusting things like spawning broods, eating their mates, laying eggs, implanting eggs inside a live host, etc... These are things that are unsettling and creepy and only female creatures do them. I think when people are asking for a monster they want something gross and bizarre.

Honestly, Elise is much closer to a female monster than anything else in the game. She just happens to transform into a sexy humanoid. But she actually spawns offspring. She's actually closer to the mark than Rek'Sai. She's reminiscent of Broodmother in DotA, who is like exactly on the mark. This huge creepy spider that could be hiding in the many webs she makes, so the webs themselves make you paranoid. And she gives birth to nasty little spiders that fuck you up, and if she kills you, she uses your corpse as food for more young. THAT IS WHAT PEOPLE WANT.

I want a female monster with this ult:

"Latches on to target enemy champion and sucks out their bodily fluids to use as a genetic base, then lays an egg which will hatch after 5 seconds, birthing a grotesque half-breed, vaguely resembling the victim."

See what I mean? TBH Rek'Sai has a cool kit, is a cool champion, but is a failure. I'm sorry Riot, I have to be honest.

This post is hilarious. Sexual dimorphism is different in every species. Can you tell a male dog and a female dog from one another without checking their business? I certainly can't. Rek'sai is a monster with female sex organs. She doesnt need anything else to be female. Breasts, ass, and hips arent things she needs to be a girl. She's a monster, she's a female, and i love that her sex had zero factor into any part of her design. It's a step in the right direction for filling out the ranks of their lady champs.

She doesn't show any signs of being female. Most female creatures do something distinct from their male counterparts. Yes, in mammals it's more subtle because they give live birth but look at other kinds of creatures. They lay eggs and do all kinds of crazy things.

And it's pretty common in the horror genre to see some of the most unsettling things that certain female creatures do being used as a horror element. Why? Because it's fascinating and fear inspiring.

What have you observed rek'sai's male counterparts doing? You don't have a point of reference.

The thing is that males don't generally leave evidence of them being male. They don't lay eggs or birth offspring.

I didn't know you expect females to lay eggs or birth offspring constantly, because that is quite unrealistic.

Maybe void monsters don't either.

Well they should because it's a great opportunity to make a character that leaves a strong impression.

Look up male seahorses, it will make you a bit more intelligent in the matter.

Feather4261 votes

How do you know that it isn't the male void monster that gives birth? Like seahorses.

Malix Farwin2 votes

By this logic, any of the male monsters do not show any signs of being male because we have no idea how their female counterparts act... are you even listening to yourself.

Anivia is a shining example of a female monster without any form of oversexualization.

Rek'sai is a monster randomly attributed as she.

But Anivia is not really a monster. She's a really well designed champion with really great thematics but not quite a monster.

"monster" as in "not anthropomorphic" obviously. She isn't savage by any sort of course.

Rek'sai doesn't give off any traits that solidify her female title. Anivia has the whole motherly voice and theme around her.

Then again, there wouldn't be a discussion like this in the first place if Riot didn't retcon summoners which would mean that they wouldn't be able to get away with only recording random growls for champion audio.

I sure love the expansion of the lore each time Rek'sai will growl.

Queen bees being called queen bugs me. They don't even have breasts, a nice butt and long legs.

do cho'gath and kog'maw have big ol' dongs flopping about? anyways, rek'sai is a burrower that transforms the terrain to suit her needs. more than any other champion in the game she makes the ally jungle into her home so you can just think of her as the classic 50's homemaker

Kog'Maw (Cock'Mouth) literally has a dong for a tongue. Riot was real mature in 2010.

And my icon is called "Master Beta Tester" go ahead and guess what that joke is.

I still want to know why Voidborn have races all of a sudden.

Weren't they all supposed to be unique, one of a kind horrors save for the voidlings (and I still hold that the voidlings are in fact the equivalent of white blood cells in a MUCH larger creature)?

I dunno but to me the idea of a female monster doing gross reproductive things is the kind of thing that would leave a big impression on me. The one thing that leaves an impression on me about Rek'Sai is the landshark thing but at some point I'll probably forget that she's supposed to be female.

Considering that you are complaining that a champ is not over emphasizing her sexual orientation (and based off of the suggestions you gave, they go well over the top), it is likely you would still complain even if riot did what you were suggesting anyways so why should they even give you the time of day. You are taking your ideals on what a female should be and are trying to force them on the development team.

Malix Farwin1 votes

I dont get it? people want a female monster and get one. Then complain about it not having WHAT THEY THINK a female MONSTER should have. I really think people are retarded

You can tell Anivia and even Elise in spider-form 'n Shyvana in dragon-form are female by their voice over. That's honestly good enough.

I think a really neat mechanic for a female Void champion would have been something like planing a symbiote on an allied champion that serves as the focus for her skills ala Ori's ball. Or vomiting waves of Voidlings all over everything. Either of those would have been neat, but I would be okay with Rek'sai simply having a voice all her own so we can tell what sorta person she is.

And if she isn't a person then what the hell is the queen of?

Yeah IDK. To me she's just the land shark champ.

Leave Rek'Sai alone guys... All I would like would be her getting a femaleish voice from the Void, but I can tell its a female because she has one thing no male Void champion has: 3 vowels in her name and shrieks instead of a voice (whether I like it or not).

Chogath Khazix KogMaw Velkoz These guys have two vowels in their names and distinct voices, unlike Rek'Sei, I think Riot knows what they are doing ^^

I ask you this: why doesn't Cho'Gath and Vel'Koz being called male without any masculine traits bug you?

Is the only trait you find significant about females their ability give birth?

MrSlowDie1 votes

yes she has no female traits. By a glance, most will say she's he, some will say she's genderless. I am okay with female monster, but reksai is just like... picking a lux skin and label it as ezreal.

burrowing tends to be a female trait in animals.

also, kog'maw being called a male without a giant penis flopping around when he runs BUGS ME
